Judas Priest are my all time fave band Halford is my fave singer and Painkiller will always be my fave album but the legacy of British Steel is unbelievable and will live on I HAVE THIS ON DVD!!!!
I am so picking this up when the opportunity presents itself. And I noticed that Dave Holland's photo has been omitted at the beginning too. Another two more years and he's out of jail too I believe. His career is over sad to say.
I was at the actual DVD recording show at Hard Rock in Florida. Was never a big fan of British Steel (The Rage was my favorite), though I realize how important this was for Priest commercially. The other songs of the tour (besides new album) were really cherished (Changes, Ripper, Diamonds, etc.) as I had not seen these live before. The times I saw Priest in the 80's, they were covering their newer material. (Screaming, Defenders, Destiny, Turbo.)
Not front and center - lucky you. I was on the frontal balcony just to the right of stage. Did you notice all the musicians at this event? Members of Maiden and others were there. ( Saw them at Hooters just before went in.)
I also saw live the last tour of Ronnie James Dio (BankAtlantic Center) when he and former Sabbath members Heaven and Hell came through here. Never thought I would be hearing Ronnie, whom I knew as Elf in upstate New York State many years ago, for the last time live.
I was at Both this Priest show at the HR and the Sabbath show you speak of at BA center. Both shows totally kicked ass!!! Looking back now I am soooo glad I was able to see Dio once more before his passing...Both these bands were and will always be a huge part of my life...
In 1980, British Steel, together with Ace Of Spades by Motorhead and the first namesake album by Iron Maiden were the true beginning of heavy metal as we know it today.
@Steelkarma don't forget the chaging that happened in sabbath's "heaven and hell", the Blizzard of Ozz and how ac/dc got slower in back in black, and wheels of steel of saxon! the year of heavy metal!
@m1che1 You're absolutely right. But over the years Lemmy and his mates had a so great influence on all heavy metal bands that we can say that their contribute to the genre was fundamental. And the proof is that today they accept without problem to play in every metal festival.
But always with the legendary introduction: "we are Motorhead...we play rock'n'roll".
British Steel pushed Judas Priest to the top but it was really Unleashed in the East that got them the attention to let British Steel become the success that it was and also it defined what metal should sound like
@itsglen9646 Indeed, with this deeper, themed album, Priest took their creative artistry to new heights. Though I'm not personally moved by predictions of secluded French philosophers of the 1500's and all the gloom and doom content with this release, the scale of the musical material and the potency of the delivery reinforces that this timeless band is live and well. They're truly "delivering the goods" in the modern era.
Hail, Hail!!! Hats OFF to the Priest!

Motorhead plays Rock n Roll.
