  • MAN DRINKING BEER CAMPFIRE THIS SONG WHERE DID THE TIME SOOO LONG AGO. THE UPSIDE ICAN GET BEER MAKE A FIRE AND PLAY THIS SONG AGAIN AND THINK OF TIMES AND FRIENDS LONG GONE

  • The Tenor with the high voice singing background on There Is and other tunes is also the one who also shares the lead on Stay In My Corner singing in his natural voice and his falsetto. Ciao!

  • There is no woman singing backup. It's their first tenor singing lead in falsetto. You can hear him sharing the lead with Marvin Junior on their song Always together and The Love We had Stays on My Mind. I'm trying to recall his name. He often switched off on lead, alternation between his natural tenor voice and his falsetto. He came to the Dells from the Flamingos back in the early days.

  • There is... one of my favorite songs. Love it!

  • That's what I'm Talkin bout!

  • Excellent song that moves the soul!!!

  • sensational great band great singer great video love and peace j vincent edwards

  • Is there a woman singing backup on the chorus? (I've always wondered.)

  • @shmuli9 The singer of the falsetto parts for the Dells was Johnnie Carter who passed away in 2009 at the age of 75.

  • Yeah man, love the Dells.

  • I'm not sure who the keyboardist was but the drummer might remember. Go to Facebook and look for Warren Hagood II.

  • Wonderful, wonderful tune....Love it!

  • absolutely LOVE this track....Blows me away, every time I hear it!

  • This is really in the groove! Just fabulous!

  • One Of Chicago's Best R&b Groups!

  • @AlicelnWonderIand this recording is a work of art!!

  • At the time the Dells were FINALLY inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, one of them stated at the ceremony that they had been together for 50 years--a clear illustration that great music outlasts the tuneless garbage filling the airwaves today!

  • awesome! :)

  • Does anyone know anything about this painting? Who drew it? Where it can be found???

  • Thank you FunkyardDogg for introducing this master piece to me, much appreciated!! Awesome song, thanks Dells.... and Marvin!! lol "There Is" the greatest group the world has ever seen, bless up! Rosena.

  • Should have been downloaded on youtube in stereo, then you would have a sound.

  • FunkyardDogg, your name is awesome and so is this song. Thanks for sharing it with us!

    There is...

  • Gus Showbar was on Superior, west of Addision past the ezella theather,I hope that helps.

  • I was quite lucky to see them live at Gus Showbar in Cleveland in t he 60s.

  • Im from Cleveland, where was the gus show bar?

  • the first few bars of this song sounds like a Chrisette Michelle tune I've heard before

  • one of the first songs that i heard in my life..still a great song

  • Minnie Riperton singing here!

  • A definitive example of when music was actually music. It's also a surprisingly fast paced song from a band who made some of the greatest love songs ever written.

I remember when this song was released... it kinda surprised a lot of people. The smooth mellow romantic Dells were suddenly singing at you at 100 MPH. It was awesome then, and it's still awesome now.

    Thanks for posting this gem.

  • oh ya! replay.

  • Only one shortcoming — it should have lasted much longer!

  • the extended remix..lol..love it!

  • @bnjbnjbnj - Actually, this is longer than the 45, which faded some 20 seconds early.

  • Vocals, lyrics, background music & arrangement are 2nd to none.

I definitely want this with me in heaven.

As a matter fact, I'm packing all their songs. What a wonderful group, and a great song!

  • A truly fantastic track, should be in the top ten of any self respecting northern soul fan. The strings on this just soar to the heavens! Matches anything put out by Motown at around the same time but doesn't get the air play it deserves.

  • RIP John Carter. Thank God for You Tube. Young folks can listen in and hear what Real music was all about. One of my favorite Dell songs. Marvin Baritone is still great today

  • for chip. There is...

  • There Is,There Is,There Is,There Is!!!! I love this song like I love their other hit "Open Up My Heart".

  • They had a lot of other hits besides this and "Open Up My Heart" Check out "Oh What A Night", "Stay In My Corner", and "Always Together" for starters.

  • Yes, yes. yes. Thanks for posting this lovely song.

  • funky soul and so damn good. Late 60's, 68-69-70.

If this don't move ya', youre dead!

  • This particular one is late 1967, but yes, it rocks.

  • anit that the truth, I only 20 and I love this and the dells, I have this on my profile as my favorites and on my playlist. I aslo have this song on my facebook page as well

  • this is music!

  • thanks dogg, i remember now.

  • this is amazing, way before my time, still amazing!

  • When I hear this, I just have to move. Brings back so many warm memories.

  • that is music and real singing

  • The musicians laying down the ryhthm track are from the X-citers band. David Henderson on Bass, Sidney Pinchback on Guitar, and Warren Hagood on drums.

  • Where is the Dells "Oh I Love You"? Their greatest song? have the 45

  • What a great song...phenomenal vocal

  • The Dells forever.

  • the name is fuddybrown and i'am a dells junkie

  • You have excellent taste in music.

  • thanks i love the dells this song is great

  • sweet :)

  • Go ahead.............

  • This song reminds me of when I was a little kid and my mother and aunt would take us to Pallisades Amusement Park in NJ.

  • What a beautiful masterpiece.

The texture of this work--from the powerful, plaintive, and supremely confident lead vocals . . . to the almost-call-and-response by the other Dells . . . to the strings arrangements--really moves me. A totally well-conceived and well-executed work of art that will endure . . . always.

Give a listen to the great drum work from 1:41 to about 1:50. They sound like bongo drums, but I'm not sure.

Thank you FunkyardDogg for uploading this beauty by The Dells.

  • @TwoFourFixate - I.I.N.M., those were conga drums heard at the 1:41 - 1:50 mark. But I agree, this is a classic. Credit arranger Charles Stepney (later to work with Earth, Wind & Fire in their early years) and producer Bobby Miller for the sound which resonates as much today as when it was first recorded in late 1967.

  • @wmbrown6,

Thank you very much for this information about the conga drums and about Charles Stepney and Bobby Miller.

    I doff my chapeau to them . . .

    And to You.

  • @TwoFourFixate - Let me also give credit to the other musicians who played on this track - including the Wurlitzer organ heard throughout.

  • The rhythm section was Warren Hagood (Drums), Sidney Pinchback (Guitar) and David Henderson (Bass) from the band The X-citers. The Conga player came in the day of the session and I'm not sure if he was Master Henry or someone else. Sid, Warren and I backed the original "Stay in My Corner and Love is So Simple. Sid and Warren were on the remake of Stay in My Corner.

  • @BassPlayerofSSC - Well, I salute y'all in any case. They don't make music (or even musicians, for that matter) like these anymore. Wonder if you'd know who played the keyboard (sounds like a Wurlitzer electric piano - or maybe a Hohner Pianet?).

  • A great one from 1968. Thanks so much.

  • Great Song! Thanx 4 sharing. Oh, btw: FunkyardDogg, do u have "Rainbow" by the Dells? I searched hi and lo for this song. I'd greatly appreciate it if you can post this collector's item of the Dells song. Much love to ya':-D

  • I've been waiting a long time for someone to post this! Thanks.

  • What is the title of that painting? Artist?

  • Sorry, I posted a reply a few days ago, not sure why it didn't show up... the etching itself is entitled "Me Miserable! Which Way Do I Fly?"

  • @FunkyardDogg : the artist - Gustave Doré

  • @TheTIMEandPLACE That is a painting of Satan .
