  • Very nice!

  • Oh my heart!!!! Your vocal range is amazing!!!!! I'm extremely jealous...

  • We sung this at my school and this is so awesome :-D

  • BLOWN THE F**K AWAY!!!

  • My school is singing this. it's a really great song, I love Eric. :)

  • @TCURox56 me too :)

  • Who could possibly dislike this?

  • You, sir, have an amazing vocal range!

  • Awesome! Waiting for your first CD release!

  • @mwhaynes1 I definitely plan on making one! Probably after my website is finished :)

if you can't wait though you can download all of my songs at danwright32.bandcamp(dot)com

  • wow. sometimes I wish I was a guy so I could do something like this;) really, really good work. greetings from Norway

  • @autumnday77b haha yeah its really fun!

  • When you record these, do you find it easier to silence the other tracks (previously laid down) to just sing the one part you're recording or do you like have the others play so you have them to guage off of?

  • @DulyNoted88 I have the others playing along so that I can make sure I'm in time. Occasionally I may mute one track if it's ridiculously dissonant and I'm having trouble tuning

  • Awesome!

  • I wondered where the beginning of Sleep had run off to :P

  • How long does it take you to do one of these videos?

  • @hammer1234509876 This particular one took a little over a month if I remember correctly

  • ok my choir in school was doing this and it didnt sound nearly as good as this one man.......you're voice is fabulous never stop singing ever<3

  • Just amazing!

  • I think this is my favorite video on youtube. At the moment, anyway. I have my headphones on full blast with a tear in my eye. This is absolutely heavenly, and dude, you share my love for Eric Whitacre! I have to ask, though, what video editing do you use?

  • @shakespeare1147 wow thanks! I use final cut pro for video editing

  • Just did this song in Chorus for my winter concert!

  • Brother, You can SING!!! You've made an incredible peace of ART... Thank You!!!

I don't want to 'order' anything from You, just asking if You have ever thought of recording Durufle's Ubi Caritas.

    God bless You!

  • @ManukHaruthyunyan you're quite welcome. I do like that song.. but I try not to record 'sacred' songs when there are so many wonderful secular songs out there to enjoy, unless something really strikes my fancy

  • I can understand You, brother.

  • WOW.

  • Ab-so-lutely Fab-u-lous.

  • Molto molto bravo! Eccellente cura nel dettaglio e pulizia del suono.

  • Rad.

  • Excellent! Quite incredible.

  • I have heard a lot of terrible multi-tracks but you are incredible!

  • @subd200 thank you! feel free to share it :D

  • You have not made a single video which I didn't like.

  • @sandiskrules thank you!

  • you know Dan, of all the performances of this on youtube, i think yours is my favourite.

    thanks :)

  • @johndv777 no, thank you!

  • I was listening to this and something felt wrong, but you did the song just fine, and then I realized there isn't enough resonance in the room you're recording in.

  • @TheNickhis I kind of agree. I never understand why the a capella guys are so reluctant to put a bit of reverb on their recordings. Check out Brodie Cuff and Danny Fong singing Lullaby by Billy Joel to see how effective it can be. :)

  • @johndv777 I did put some reverb, but I'm a really bad judge of how much is good.. I'm always afraid of putting too much

  • Dude, this is amazing. Beautiful. I wish I had your talent. :) keep it up.

  • You are so musical... wonderful voice!

  • It's interesting that your eyebrows are more raised in the tenor squares.

  • @jdmj707 are they? I don't see it...

  • Oh my goodness this is amazing. I love this piece and when I saw that you had done it I was interested to hear you hitting those notes! Incredible!

  • Very well done!

  • you. are. really cool. (no sarcasm, i swear!) and sorry for spamming all of your videos haha. this one is nearly flawless! if you hold the notes to their fullest value and use your decrescendos like you did, it really has a nice, dynamic, ringing effect to it. think about releasing your sound, like if you've ever performed in a nice hall.

  • WHY ARE YOU SO FUCKING AMAZING !!!!! I LOVE YOUR VOICE!!!

  • this is beautiful.

  • I liked the one in the sweater lol

  • I am begging you to pleaseeeeeee sing Seal Lullaby and or Nox Aurumque. P.S. thank you for gracing me with your musical talent :)

  • @TeganFossett I've actually had a new Whitacre video recorded for about a month that I've been too lazy to edit :/ I should get on that

  • @TeganFossett Rene Clausen and Eric Whitacre are brilliant composers!

  • @TeganFossett A version of Fran Biebel's Ave Maria would be cool too!

  • Dan love this very much!!! You did an outstanding job!!!!!! I hope our Chamber choir can sing this at the next holiday concert! :)

  • omg, this is absolutely amazing!

    #jealous

  • Awesome job! What software do you use, or how do you record and combine the tracks?

Also I was wondering whether you just took each voice part and copied it 4 times, or if you actually recorded it 32 times. Great job anyway, and great range.

  • @Fireavatar33 thank you! I use logic pro to record and layer the audio. and yes, I actually recorded this 32 times, if I just copied and pasted the tracks, you'd hear a kind of metallic sound, since all the voices in a part would be 100% the same

  • amazing voice you have... great..!!

  • Bravo

  • did u use a pitch shift or is that your natural range?

  • @kingofminecraftia no pitch shifting. everything is natural

  • @danwright32 well then even better

  • The last 1st soprano note was magnificent! Props bro. <3

  • i swear there are only 8 parts and yet 32 clips?

  • @Watcake yes…. because it's a 1 man CHOIR, so there are 8 voices on each part and 2-4 voices on each split

  • @danwright32 OHHH yeah i'm really stupid :P, i did this at a school concert its such a beautiful piece of music

  • @Watcake haha yeah it is

  • Literally gave me chills. Amazing.

  • words cannot express how awesome this is...its amazing what one voice can do..also GREAT job on "Sleep".. i mightve commented on that one also lol but keep it up!!

  • ok, wow.

  • Has Mr. Whitacre seen this? He definitely should.

  • @flippingdaisyburgers not that I know of.. maybe more people should send it to him ;)

  • @flippingdaisyburgers send it to him in face book.. he actually relpies to people.. he has replied to me several times... im a die hard whitacre fan... he communicated with his fans on f.b.

  • Oh my god.... you actually hit that note o.o Bravo, that was incredible!

  • You have an incredible range! Very supported and consistant tone. Well done, my friend, and keep it up:-D

  • i know its the holidays. but 'The Seal Lullaby' TTBB style. "the" next thing man

  • @shmo15 haha I'll look into it. don't worry, your eric whitacre fix will be coming soon ^_^

  • @danwright32 :D WOOT ^,^

  • I've just listened to sevral of your videos (all fantastic) and I have to say the only thing bothering me is your vowels. A bit more round and they'd be perfect.

  • how long does it take you to create one of your videos not including time to learn the piece?

  • @BackLaneFilms2 after I've learned the piece, it really just depends on how long per day I want to work on it. If I'm trying to get it done as quickly as possible recording-wise it takes me however long the song is times however many parts there are. so to use this an example it took about 6 hours altogether in recording time. and then editing: the actual process of editing doesn't take all the long, maybe 30min-an hour, but the rendering takes forever. so it can take days for me to edit a video

  • @danwright32 What editor do you use?

  • @MatsKaarbo for audio? I use logic pro. for video I use final cut pro

  • @danwright32 Cool. I was just curious about the render time in Final Cut Pro X, which is supposedly said to make it faster to render due to the background processing feature. Do you have any experience in this?

  • @MatsKaarbo yes, I use final cut pro X (although it hadn't come out yet when I made this video)

It's different… If you have the processing speed to run it the background rendering is great. It's perfect for my 4 part videos. In my 32 part videos my computer can't handle all of the rendering while still doing editing, and it slows down everything on my computer while it's rendering. Even with all of that I would still say it's faster than the previous version

  • Awesome, but I found it a little rushed...

  • I´ve sung this song at a competative choir-level, and it´s certainly not an easy song to get in tune live nor on recording. This is extremely well done!

  • This is so impressive

  • What is the lowest note you can hit clearly? As well as the highest

  • @tunaunit3 haha you mean that I've ever hit? or that I can hit on an everyday basis?

umm ever, I've gotten down to a bass low C, and up to a soprano high D#

  • Beautiful! What planet do you hail from?

  • How did you build up such a wide range?

  • @progrockcoffee I always kinda had a slightly above average range, and I've done exercises to strengthen both ends and just get some more strength on the extremes of my range… Basically you're born with some of it and practice will get you the rest

  • Seeing this brings back wonderful memories :)

  • You sing the soprano solo better than most woman do.

  • AWESOME!

  • Es ist äußerst interessant!

  • Soprano solo for a male...how epic :D

  • Fantastic...just gorgeous.

  • You are very talented, I'm speechless. You're pitch is flawless, and I can't believe those high notes, wow, very impressive. Did you use auto tune at all? It doesn't sound like it but I'm curious. I love these whitacre pieces. My jazz choir in high school sang sleep, lux arumque, and cloudburst. Anyway awesome job :) I am very jealous of your range

  • @Snappersthedragon88 thank you! I'm glad you like my videos! and no, there is no autotune

  • Is that your chest voice? Cuz if it is, That's super incredible, but if it's head voice, it's still super incredible!! :)

  • @AnonymusDuck it defers depending on the song and the line that I'm singing. I think in this song (usually) I would sing in chest voice up until a Piano A or a Forte C… but I'm not sure.. most of the Soprano 1 line is in falsetto though

  • What software do you use to do this? This is incredible!

  • @weef723 I used final cut pro for the video and logic pro for the audio

  • I wonder which one of those guys sang the solo..

  • @ChocolateCaliente062 it was the box in the top left corner

  • @ChocolateCaliente062 The very top left corner. The lighting kind of flairs when it starts ;)

  • OH my oh my...

  • I'll be directing my school's choir in this song next year. I'll have to try recreating it sometime. XD I'd definitely think that the C#2 would be the most difficult note at the end for me though. What did you use to edit the videos together?

  • can you actually hit that high note!!? xx

  • @MsMegaMiss yup! I actually have a pretty high voice, so I have an easier time with the Soprano 1 line than the Bass 2 line

  • This man....Just.... Holy shit his range. i have preformed this before. the second bass line alone takes massive man parts. but to reach both the lowest bass and highest soprano. you sir should try out for the kings singers. as a fellow bass i salute you

  • I have just died and gone to heaven. :)

  • once again, your range is just the most incredible thing ever. im so jealous haha <333 keep rocking

  • last year our choir of 60+ SATB singers sang this and sleep.. you most def did better than us :P the only drawbacks with these kinds of videos is that you can hear all the little mouth noises you make when there's a dramatic pause.

  • @kuhayelahh haha yeah, I'm trying to get rid of those. and to be fair, I did have the ability to do retakes :)

  • good falsetto

  • You sing higher than most sopranos in my choir! Bravo!

  • mm! mm! more whitacre! <333333

  • wish i had the time (and the voice) to do somehting like that XD

  • Great! A big hug from Argentina!

  • Wow you are so talented! The only thing I see consistantly wrong in your videos is your vowels on your E's. To fix that (Especially on long E's,) when you are saying things like Keep, Weep, Sheep I don't know, make your lips round like you are saying Loo. It will keep you from going flat.

    Just some advice! Great job!

  • Beautifully done. Man, you should sing all the parts at once in a choir! lol Seriously though, well done. I sang this in my college choir and am picky about how it's done. I'm an Alto I/Soprano II and your pitch in that area is astounding and beautiful. Thanks for sharing! :D

  • @Elya08 thanks! yeah it's really hard to sing those lines, since it's not in my natural range. I can do Alto 2 and most of Alto 1 in chest voice but I have to do soprano in falsetto. I'm glad you like it ^_^

  • this is amazing, i've tried doing this before but couldn't get a good quality... are you using an external mic for this? and what are you using to keep tempo? or in time with the other tracks?

  • @MrForreststarr yup! I've got a blue bird mic from blue microphones feeding into the apogee one pre-amp. and I'm singing along to a metronome

  • this is fucking awesome ^.^

  • One: As a choral singer, it is very hard to impress me.

Two: As a female singer with a similar range, I am always looking for quality over range.

That being said, you are incredible. Amazing range, beautiful pitch, I even love your timbre (particularly your bass range, which is spine-chilling). Your falsetto range is shocking, but even more so was your Bass II - Baritone. I would LOVE to sing with you. Since that will probably never happen, watching and following is a great second best. Keep si

  • @ArianaSings060808 thank you very much for that wonderful comment! It's funny that you say you like my bass 2 range. cause I'm actually in 2 choirs right now and I sing tenor 1 in both haha.

if you have such a large range you should try multitracking too :)

  • Beautiful man Beautiful :)))

  • I wish I understood what the song was saying...

  • @Konnorshi it translates to:

    Light, Light

    Warm

    and heavy/loaded/pregnant/deep/dignified*

    Pure

    Pure as if gold

(They) sing/prophesy and (they) sing/prophesy and (they) sing/prophesy.

*'Gravis que' is actually written and said as one word, Gravisque, meaning "and [definition]. There are so many words listed because it actually means all of those, in a poetic sense that is difficult to capture in one word in English.

  • @danwright32 Thank you for this! I wondered why Mr. Whitacre had an album 'Light and Gold' (I think that's what it's called). Now it makes a lot more sense.

Do you do requests for songs?

  • @Konnorshi no problem :)

I don't do requests per say, but feel free to link me to a youtube video of a piece you'd like me to do, and if I like it odds are I'll do it at some point

  • i think its funny how you say "gravisque" (i believe thats how you spell it)

  • @altobssn why? thats how you're supposed to say it. "grah-veese-kway" if I were to write it phonetically.

  • @danwright32 well technically yes if you were to go by english standards... but isnt this in latin or some other language? so wouldnt it be "grah-veese-keh"? idk dude i am only 15 so idk how much i really know... i love your videos though. awesome job. as you can see by my username, i only play wind instruments. awesome job :)

  • @altobssn nope! it is latin, and I've actually sung it in 3 different choirs (on 3 different voice parts haha) and I'm definitely pronouncing it correctly.

and thanks! I'm glad you like them

  • @danwright32 alright sorry. my spanish was butting in then haha.

  • @altobssn no worries

  • LOVE IT this is actually one of my favorite choral pieces.

you should put up a version of o magnum mysterium

  • To fast

  • @elliot2500 really? you listen to this amazing creation and thats what you say? @danwright32 this is beautiful, don't let people like this tell you otherwise.

he put a lot of work into this and you don't even have the decency to say "it was really good but you did it a little fast for my taste"

  • subscribed, commented and shared as requested. this is genius creativity!

  • @doowell thanks!

  • wait. you can't really hit those high notes can you? because if you can then you're truly god.

  • @jewbybrother579 yup! I can ^_^

  • @danwright32 oh my god.

  • Beautiful.

  • I.. Cried. This is gorgeous. p.s. you totally stole my idea. It's okay though you're totally deserving of it ;) Absolutely amazing.

  • @katemackenziee aww thank you =]

you should still make one! It'd be nice to see some female multitrackers

  • Wow...wow...This is incredible. Really great work. Wow...

  • WHAT PROGRAM TO DO MULTITRACK U USE

  • @musicmaniak98 I use logic pro for audio and final cut pro for video

  • AMAZING

  • @AcEsDoWnFalL haha yeah, I wish I could get down to that, but I'm happy with my high range =]

  • @AcEsDoWnFalL yeah thats why I love it. I have an ear for harmonies so I love getting the more difficult parts because it actually makes me work rather than getting bored after singing it through a few times

  • @AcEsDoWnFalL I sing tenor :)

  • "Music is the wine that fills the cup of silence" - this quote popped up in my mind when I listened to this. It is amazing, I was really surprised you could pull off the high notes so well. It's such a shame that your videos don't have more views ;(

    Keep up the good work!

  • @okastraat2 yes, I agree… you could help by sharing this with your friends! :D

  • 1 dislike from Barbershop666

  • whaouw dude that's awesome keep it up ! beautiful

  • We sang this song for MSVMA All State Honors Choir last year. You did an amazing job pulling out the dissonance and purity in each chord. The Bass sounded really nice and full, as did the Alto (I sang Alto 1 when I performed it) and the Tenor part was rich and clear. In the choir we had, there were actually about 12 basses who were fully hitting the optional low B at the end. This might be one of my favorite songs that I've ever had a chance to perform. Gorgeous song. You did a wonderful job. :)

  • you really can down to c * ?.... YOUUR AWSOME...

  • @MrCelloBass what?? haha no way. I definitely don't have a low C. the lowest I've ever gotten is a D and that's on my best day. maybe you're hearing an undertone (not even sure if that's a thing)… like an overtone but lower than the other voices?

  • @danwright32 Your low note on Lux Aurumque seems to be a solid D-flat, and I don't think it's an undertone. (I've heard other video/audio recordings on YouTube, and the piece seems to be in C, but your version is a 1/2 tone higher - oh, dear, those poor sopranos!) So unless you pitch-shifted the piece down, you're low note is clearly below D!!! Great job, by the way. Your attacks and releases beat those of the choir recording of the Hannover Choir with Mr. Whitacre conducting.

  • @RichardGilinsky nope, that's a D :) don't get me wrong, I've gotten lower then a D before. the lowest I've ever sang without being sick is a C. and this piece is in B

  • You have saved a depressed man's life today, my friend. Thank you so much for sharing this piece with us.

  • @YsoSRS14 Thank you very much, I'm glad you liked it.

  • I. Love. You.

Just sayin'. This was amazing :)
