I'm using this song as an audition piece for Musical Theatre school next week, I'm super nervous! Nobody can live up to this standard, so I'm hoping to be the next best :)
Well, in my oopinion, a woman who loses her identity and is thrown again in a world where there is no more place for her has a tragic story (even if you consider that it ends as in the movie where her only use was to pick up the slippers of the problematic professor, who would never find a girl that suited him because nobody could be compared to his mother).
@42Teo I believe Eliza finds her identity again though, because we see her chastising Professor Higgins and storming off to find her own place in the world, acting like her old fiery self. She was given the means to support herself, and could have, but she returns when she realizes she actually respects and even loves (though maybe not in a romantic way) the professor. And the professor feels the same way about her.
From what I read, she wanted this role to go to Julie Andrews when she was first approached. The big wigs said they will hire Elizabeth Taylor instead. Not sure Elizabeth Taylor could have pulled this off. Audrey did a marvelous job as always.
From what I read, when Audrey leanred that they were going to dubbing over all of her hard work, she stormed straight off of the set. But being Audrey Hepburn, she returned the very next day to apologize for her behaviour.
Although Audrey took singing lessons, her voice was overdubbed by Marni Dixon. It would have been nice to hear Audrey's own voice... Then again, perhaps these songs were too difficult for her to properly perform. If they had Auto-Tune back then, they could have used her voice and adjusted the missed notes. Excellent film, in any case.
actually she probably could've done a lot of this song... maybe taken a bit of cockney out of it to make it a little more feminine & soft, but other than that, she wouldn't have been able to hit the notes of other songs, like I Could've Danced All Night. But anyways, what a classic! My Ultimate favorite! She was so wonderful in it & veryyy classy(:
They actually kept some parts of Audrey's original vocals. You'll notice that there's a shift in vocal quality and range in "Just You Wait." Audrey's voice is the lower one.
The best song in My Fair Lady. Audrey Hepburn was the most actrative woman in the World. The only thing that makes me think is that she has never played a really happy person on Screem. All her movies were so tragic, as this one..
@42Teo wait, this movie isn't tragic....yeah, it doesn't end with the classic kiss-in-the-horizon ending but it ended hapily enough with the two of them united...im confused.
I watched this with my best friend and their mom and my bf (my best friend's sister) she got me hooked on this movie lol i love it

They should play this video in Chinese prisons. Mute the sound of course, it's a great song. The video however could make anyone talk after 12 hours.
