"Solitary Man was a kind of sub conscience thing. I didn't realize I was talking about myself but it was a song that I'd written, worked on in the hopes that Bobby Darin would sing it, this was back in 1965. I remember taking the demo and the leaf sheet in a cab in New York going over to his record office, about halfway there I asked the cab driver to pull over and stop, because I realized I didn't want him to sing it,"

garethcaergwrle, hmmm. my dad played Neil Diamond on his eight tracks. that was back in the early eighty's. It must be that trumpet sound. It is appealling, and typical of most new yorkers that love to hear an orchestra.
Not only do I "like" this song, I love it! This was a David L. Pyle "Pick to Click" on WAGO radio in Muncie, Indiana in 1966. What a great year! Thanks Neil for helping a young man turn his life around that year!
watched this concert with my dad , he pased away in October that year, was the best concert I have ever seen , dad played Neil as i was growing up , he always wanted to see him. He got his wish .
@cherrylm2 Will be my first Neil Diamond concert too! The first time for him also in SA! He never knew he had such a lot of fans here! Would have like to see him in his younger years! Unfortunately back then we were the "Black sheep" of the whole world! Will attend his show in Cape Town!
Saw Neil last Monday 21/03/2011 at Brisbane Entertainment Centre. Wow, he gets better with age. This was my fifth concert including one in NYC, he is fantastic. Concert seems to go too quick . Love you Neil.
Catnipp, obviously you have never seen Neil Diamond in concert. This is the same band he has toured with most of his career. The brass section is the newest. He added that about 7 or 8 years ago. You don't know shit!

Sounds great and Neil is great but that has to be one of the stankest backup bands that I've ever see.
