  • You know, I cant seem to stop listening to it, I've listened to it about 10 times. Its soothing to the mind.

  • I listen to every kind of music there is including rap, and this is one of the most beautiful music I have ever heard in my whole life.

  • Sympa la chanson. L’atmosphère bucolique de Paris que John Cale transmet est vraiment intéressante. Et la façon dont il dit « Beaujolais » et « Champs-Elysées » est unique =)

  • There is nothing in pop music quite like this - which is as big a compliment I can make. The single greatest thing cale has ever done - and I bet secretly he knows it! And as others have said, the whole album is one of the greatest ever made. Wonderful lyrics too, no idea what they mean but a perfect match of words and music.

  • Sha la la la man

  • I saw John Cale live two months ago and if he delivered a solid performance, I was a little disappointed he didn't play anything from this classic!

  • there is a lot of beatles influence in this song. They were really the first to successfully use orchestras in their rock music.

  • @compscrap If think you're right, there are many similarities. Still, what a wonderful song an album^^. The Beatles were influenced by this and that, too. I read a few interviews with Cale where he occasionally could talk like a snob, but I think this is an unforgettable, hauntingly beautiful song. Just nice that we can listen to such wonderful music.

  • such a well crafted song.

  • sweet as

  • Cracking arrangement

  • An outstanding song from both a classic album and also a watershed album

Love the orchestral backing which has been a landmark of many of the great albums

Probably his best album although Slow Dazzle is very good

    Regards

    Johnny Shamrock

  • A brilliant song, like so many of his others. I also like the music of the late Warren Zevon, and I'd happily put them right up there together in terms of making tracks that carry an historic interest, of one sort or another, while at the same time being damn good songs

  • I found this song because of Richard Ayoade and BBC radio 6.

  • this is amazing

  • Can somebody tell me what this song is about?

  • @Staggerbaroque

Its about the decline of the golden age of europe following the signing of the treaty of 1919 ending WWI

  • @tehcranman Roger that. Thanks. Got to see him do this song with a string quartet.

  • this song is A++++++

  • Done superbly at the bottom line club

  • I'm a Ghost!

  • mrs robinson?!

  • @CannaS88 my friend was playing this song on the piano, I thought the same thing at first.

  • IF I WERE A DJ. I'D PLAY THIS SONG EVERY HOUR,ON THE HOUR !!! SUPERB SONG!!!

  • I'll never tire of this song- that's a promise ;)

  • great song; great references to France. And Paris of course.

  • The entire Paris 1919 album is fine. I bought the LP so many years ago and it's still my favorite Cale album.
