It amazes me how most people don't even pull over or wait until the very last minute...I could never drive an ambulance or any emergency vehicle because that would piss me off so bad...
If I was the medic attending to the patient I would have told my patient to hold on a sec. I would come up to the pass through and punch the medic behind the wheel in the face..This isn't some high school kids having a good time. Remember the phrase "Do No Harm". If all I'm listening to is a air horn the whole way because some newby is having fun makes us look like a joke.
I am on a local volunteer fire dept. and some asshole thought i was a cop and literally started driving 90-105 mph! I was like what a dumb bastard. I had a retired police crown vic. with police package so i zipped right passed him and he flipped my the bird.... I hate assholes like that. Then i had a older lady stop in the middle of the road and i almost hit her! I think all of the people that are volunteers or what not should have the right to sight faggots like that. They are all morons!!!!!!!
You mean cite, as in citation, not sight. And how would you know how fast he was driving unless you were driving just as fast, which i hope you werent, because driving 105mph is pretty stupid, especially since youre just a volunteer
Hey brydan10, I think a-holes like you who use words like "faggots" should be given tickets for defaming your species with "blatant disregard for, and/or lack of, a brain"! And how do you know the guy was going 90-105 mph? And then you passed him? So you were going over 105 mph to first respond? Why? To be the first of 20+ volunteer weenies to show up at the scene of a cut finger or trash can on fire? How many lives were put at risk in your blatant disregard for safety and THE LAW!?
Hell, you think thats bad? Try working as an EMT or PM in Los Angeles. You could be running code and come up along side someone and they will not notice for a good half mile or so. Or, if you block a lane of traffic for a TC, you will regularly be flipped the bird for doing so.
That would probably be a pretty good way for the city to make money, at least in this city. Just have the police tail the ambulance and fine the idiots that don't yield. I mean that SUV in the beginning flat out juked the ambulance!
Lord please forgive me for complaining about drivers failing to yield here, I now see that my colleagues elsewhere in the grand ole US of A have it a million times worse. Amen! lol
but in all seriousness what the hell is wrong with the drivers in your town, are they all deaf, blind and stupid? and that damn KIA at 0:17, i would have crashed into it on purpose, damn moron needs to learn a lesson on yielding to emergency vehicles!
GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE WAY. I have a lot of respect for you paramedics and firefighters that are just trying to do your jobs but have to put up with that shit....
When I was an EMT in Louisville, KY I had to sit at an intersection with lights and siren going for a whole minute because NOBODY would stop. That has got to be, hands down, the worst city in the US for yielding to emergency vehicles. I have noticed though, from experience, people seem to move more readily for box trucks than vans. Maybe they're a little more intimidating...
why the heck dont people get out of the way when they see this coming?! doesn't that make you angry? somebody's life is at stake because they dont want to slow down and move to the right.
We've done some experiments and found that the electronic horn is less audible than the siren. We just keep it on wail unless we're at an intersection or backed up traffic. It carries really far and is easily heard.
I drive 70k+ a year in the uk and see many emergency vehicles sadly once coming to my aid,i think in heavy traffic too much noise can panic drivers, going through the centre of a queue the two-tone is less aggressive and does not cause panic. This gives the less competant drivers time to think and react.
Please remember that 99.99% of drivers DO want to let you through.
not sure but would guess like most things we follow america in the end. In oxford the frs kept the hi-lo for ages at least when you heard them you knew a truck was coming. They also use a 'zapper' noise which studies say is more audible, though not as loud, and gives the direction of the vehicle to drivers?
This is why more departments need to have Q's on their Rescues. Even when operating a dual tone some people dont move until were right on their bumper. That shouldnt be the case. People need to here ALS coming from a mile away so they can move over. Q + Airhorn = clear pathway to patient
These vids are for enjoyment purposes only. If you would like to leave a smart comment please message me. I mean, we could of just turned the light and siren off and went non-emergency. Or we could of made the patient walk. Or the least we could of done was put bubble wrap on the ambulance incase something did happen to us. And not to mention when we got off of this call we went to a working house fire. But thats real safe there...lol.
Ha, your not lying. I had a Cadet with me working the siren, he was having a blast with it. Did you see the first car that we passed? She swerved right towards us.
That car was so close to hitting you, what kinds of drugs were they on? It seems like alot of the cars were confused on what to do. Here in Michigan if you don't pull over or do something stupid, they will get your plate number and you will get a ticket. LOL a Q would make them think before swerving left..
Q would of done wonders, but our fire department believes they are only for the Engines. But I will not open that can of worms. If all the cars would just merge right it would be so much easier. I hate using the middle lane because of risk of a head on. But sometimes you got to go there.
Might want to tell that cadet that sirens are more effective when you change them to a faster changing sound when you're coming upon a busy intersection, though I know you already know it. Also, while I love the Powercall, in my opinion it should be used as a secondary siren...
