  • Help plz

Last year i was a coxswain at 128lb and now i am a rower and i recently took my time down to 7:53 i know its not great but how can i get it down and what is appropriate for a rower who wants to be 135. whats a good time for that

  • hey guys im 15 and ive been doing rowing for about a year and a half. ive done a 2k 5 or 6 times i just want to know what would be a good 2k result for a junior 16 male so i can compare it to my current 2k best?

  • @TheArdScoilRis it really depends on your weight if you are like around 155 you should really attempt to be around sub 7:30. im guessing you are only a sophomore so you have plenty of time going sub 7.

  • @d12isgood im 140lbs and 5 foot 11 inches, my last 2k was 7:44, im really hoping to get sub 7:30 cause i really do feel thats the time i should be getting..but my coach doesnt allow me go above 27 str/min so would that be a big influencing factor? we dont have sophmore here in ireland but im guessing ya i probably am .

  • @TheArdScoilRis oh yea its definitely a factor. this is what most rowers do around here they make the first 500 like low 1:50s splits and the mid 1k they try to hold it at their goal split and then the last it gets alittle tricky so i usually row conservatively so i try to save my power till the last 250 and then i try to sprint. but our sprints are really high in stroke rate. and the 27 str/min is not a bad stroke rate the only thing that it effects is your sprint. most sprint at 33str

  • lol. never had to do one of these. i pray it only comes for national team trials

  • 55 kg and I pull a 7:51.6...

  • @singerjimbo22 hey jim its mcnicol, i recognise your name and ur erg LOL!!!

  • @jimmychoppa1997 haha bro don't you think the guy on the closest erg looks like zeke!?

  • LOL 6:50 XD

  • @TheElysiumMods thats funny there's a kid who I row with named Andrew cambell.

  • @godblessolbas You say your a novice rower, I assume you mean high school... I'm a novice in high school, and I row just under 7 minutes for my 2k. I'm the number one on my Freshman team and #3 overall in the team. However the minimum time for a 2k in the Junior National Team for the United States is 6:45, so I'm not even good enough for that.

  • this is horrible, i dont think any of you pull sub 7 min my brother is in the under 23 GB squad and he pull a 6 min dead ergo for 2k

  • @staite1 well looks like your just going to be living in his shadow for the rest of your life

  • As a novice rower, what sort of average split should I be looking for over a 2k? I currently average about 2.03 over a 25 minute UT2 (rate 18) erg and 1.57 over a 10 minute Ut 1 (rate 24) erg.

  • okay so like the first 400 or 500 its like wow where did that go?! and then the last 400 500 m your like omg ya im screwed......

  • lolz 841 woot woot

  • @robinfisichella i always wear a hat to erg

for sweatier people like me its nice to not get sweat in the eyes

  • im 55kgs and pull 7:56

  • i had my first 2k test today as a sophomore, varsity. im a lightweight, and pulled a 1:45.7 which is a 7:03. I weight 150, and rows for HP Crew

  • theres a coxwain for AHS that pulls 8:05, he claims he didnt try

theres another coxwain for AHS that pulled i think 8:26 or 8:46 one of those.

  • anybody who pulls under 6:40 is probably currently erging instead of online

  • @rowingbig123 I'll get there.

  • love it how some people wear hats for a 2k test!

  • I love it when your 400-500m into an erg and you can't remember those 400-500m. That feeling where Adrenaline kicks in and you look at the screen realising that the erg is almost over with 1500m to go. Uniquely amazing feeling that only true oarsmen and oarswomen can know.

  • @slutbucketism WHAT? when i get 500 in im usually fucked and somehow hold on for the worst k of my life then just blank out the last 500 then die on the floor and cry..

  • does the guy closest to the camera have a toomer on bis lower back WTF

  • What should a 5'2 15 year old girl who weighs 115 pounds get in a 2k?

  • @Ccchherryyy 8:30 if you're good. I'm 5'8" 135 lbs, and at a 7:23.0 right now

  • Yo soy cadete BB y en 2000 metros tiro 6:38 y mido 1.89 cm (chile ) 1x CADETE B-ESTIA ^^

  • The closest person is shooting the slide and the second guy is overcompressing. At least they're strong.

  • lol im novice i got like 9 minutes or somthing like that

  • No one should ever brag about anything. In the end, there's always room for improvement and there's always someone better than you. You may be good at having a nice 2k split but your actual endurance may suck or you have trouble keeping in time with the others in your boat. You may be the most powerful but you may be the one to catch a crab. Life's tough.

  • im almost under 7 mins went 7:04 last 2k

  • what should a 5ft. 11. 16 yr old. who weighs 63 kg get in a 2k??

ps.. i get serious ergblock :P

  • @h1bB0ilzZ all you have to do, is slow your recovery and pull your hardest. just use those legs you have. i get approx. 8:00 minutes on my 2k. but that's because i'm a girl and i'm a novice.

  • these lightweights saying they got 6:15 is rediculous.... seriously thats pretty much impossible... there's no way, because lightweights dont have enough weight to pull the chain that hard... the best heavyweight in my crew has a 6:16... in my lightweight varsity boat the best guy has a 6:58 so STFU lying assholes

  • @br00mstick1014 I weigh 156 and I can pull a 6:38 -- it's very possible as well. I've seen a lightweight pull 6:27.

  • @br00mstick1014 Its very possible for a lightweight to get around 6:12 nd whatever, look at the olympics, its what those lightweights would pull..

  • @br00mstick1014 your crew is rediculous...:D I am lightweight, am 17 and my best 2k is 6.33....The lightweight record on 2k is 5.58, and average 2k erg for lightweights is 6.20.......weight is not important for rowing as exchanging of oxigen....ask henrik stephansen...:)))

  • @MrRodpec youre 17 and you pull a 6:33?

What school are you looking at next year?

  • @Shoxjie I don't know yet.But anyway i will quit rowing because in my country sport and school doesn't go together :)

  • @br00mstick1014 google "Andrew Campbell"

  • @htcfreeze1205 that's embarrassing just leave

  • @rico1112222 For a sophomore 7:32 isn't too good, I've just turned 15 and i'm on 6:47. If you want to improve you gotta get some longer ergos in like 20 minutes and half an hours, but keep at it I've known guys who have gone from what you're on now to sub 6:40s in a year

  • Im a sophomore in highschool, and weigh 152 pounds. In pulling a 7:34. Crew is sort of a part time sport for me. Im male. Is that decent. On jv now

  • @rico1112222 thats not so good im in 8th grade and pulled a 7:12 and am in the lightweight varsity.... 2k's are all about pushing yourself and breathing.... the strength comes in play later... u gotta push urself 200 fucking percent and take breaths that seem way too big... it will get u through it waaaaaaaaay easier and quicker, so that 200% will seem like 100 instead lol

  • just being a bit critical watch their postures two girls i've coached are out with back injury due to poor posture

  • ok withoutpissing about could someone please suggest a decent split time for me - im 5'11, 150lbs and 22 yrs, no rowing team no coaching, what time for the 2k should i aim for (roughly)before i can start feeling good about myself say next to an actual competitive rower?? answers much apprectiated...

  • @BodomChildBreeder probably sub 7 minutes which is 1:45 splits or under

  • @chazz00999 seriousely...shit i have a lot of work to do.. thanks very much

  • @chazz00999 wow really... i have sum to go.. thanks!!

  • "hey guys, i'm a 14 year old girl who pulls a 6:50 on her 2k erg test, is that good?"

    omg stfu people you suck

  • @rbkhockey1313 THATS LIKE AMAZING

  • Hey guys. I'm a freshman in highschool and I was wondering if pulling a 1:56 is good on a 2k.

  • @TheMummy516

It's a good start, work it on down

  • Awful recoveries for all of them...

  • @ra2kan3 First two looked fine the back two I can see what youre saying.

  • whats this song its great i want to try it for my erg program

  • @CJ95ZZ Headstrong by Trapt

  • fags

  • 2ks are death. hahaha

  • @McLovinn21 Try a 5k, they suck. ass.

  • @TheWho852 try a 10k, they suck. ass

  • @ledjovi54 Yeah and there also incredibly boring and pointless.

  • @TheWho852 ya going to have to agree with ou there

  • @ledjovi54 Try a 20k.

  • @snowboarder12815 try a 60k

  • Look, liteweights tht claim theyre pulling 6:15? Ur out of ur mind! Top highschool recruit lwt was at 6:30. And thts already stupid fast. But 6:15??? Thts jst bulshit

  • @naph1sf he never said that he was a lightweight, every high school is sub 7

  • they dont erg very well

  • im in 8th grade right now and its my first year and i got 8:30 and it was really hard please tell me if that is good or bad

  • @systemofmedown it kinda sucks, but your only grade 8. as you improve, at first, you'll improve by leaps and bounds, and as you get harder and harder, it gets harder to improve.

  • @funyellowpills thank you well my coach said that this is average for me right now but he said i should get a 7:30 when we do it again

  • @systemofmedown If it's your first year, I wouldn't pay too much attention to the time as at your age it's not so much about that type of fitness. I'd say that for an 8th grader (that makes you about 13/14?), that's a time that is full of promise. My first erg was around 8:00 when I was 15 and within a few years I was sub 7. Erg fitness is really something that develops over the years (not JUST through heavy training within a year or two despite certain people's belief)

  • @systemofmedown I know coxswain's that pull faster times than that.

  • @systemofmedown that is shit im in 8th grade and pulled a 7:12

  • Hey rgellas, I was just wondering if you knew what your erg score has to be around to get a scholarship to a US school?

  • Comment removed

  • ooh im a sophmore in highschool this yr weigh 180 and pull a 6: 40 =/ lol well i got all yearr to train still =]

  • @TheGrimshade2 better than me. same age, but i'm at 125 pulling a 7:15. only need to subtract 45 GODDAM SECONDS to have a chance at college rowing...

  • @getinthevankid That's sick, I hope our senior 8 gets to face off against him at SRA's this week.

  • i fucking hate people who brag about their 2k's on youtube

you all say ur like fucking 6:15 when you probably aren't even sub 7, you talk about how much you know about rowing when in reality, no one would go on youtube to say how good they were

  • @blemphia THANK YOU! haha so annoying.

  • @blemphia So true - Even if people are such erg scores they claim, that has no proof they're good in a boat where it counts. Let them brag about their erg scores, we'll brag about our medals and shirts.

  • @blemphia well, the thing is.. they do ;) and even if I don't comment it under every video, I still think I'm pretty good. In fact I cant beat the 6;47 on 2k erg, but I only have been rowing for nearly 2 years now.. so what?

I think everyone should have something to push himself, and if it's rowing, then why shouldnt they comment it :D?

  • @blemphia I pace 1:35 my 2k test :) Which is not so good.

  • Oh damn. I feel the anxiety returning. I feel the pain.

  • Freeski thanks I was stupid enough! that is an amazing score. I saw that wrong. I've done mid-atlantics and yorktown sprint and a bunch of others. A bad mistake that is amazing. Im getting there lol.

    Thank!

  • During a 2k im always shivering before when it starts I get everything out of my head but the split and maybe lyrics to a song or something! Ya im a sophmore in high school and for my first year I pulled something about a 6:15 or something so it was be under six for a college team!

  • @Ssenfuma11 That's total bullshit. Yes I am calling you out. I row for one of the most successful high school rowing programs in the US and we don't even have a kid under 6:20. Last year one of our graduates was a CRASH-B world champ and he didn't even have a 6:15 until he was a senior.

  • I have pretty much the same technique as the first guy when erging. Dropping the hands and then raising them at the catch. Guess it's just a habit from being on the water.

  • music during a 2k? thats usually the workout you never listen to music for

  • @luis96105

it's not really meant to be a workout. it's a one shot test and sometimes music (not this music, which sucks) gets guys pumped up

  • I always listen to music during a 2k, keeps you focused

  • who the hell doesn't listen to music during a 2k? That's the workout I blast music. Drowns out the voices in my head.

  • i dont

  • ergs fucking suck

  • yep i have a 2k erg race this weekend! its going to be 6 minutes of hell!

  • A lightweight at my high school's pr was 6:15....as a junior in college...he gained like 30 pounds once he was out of there though, being a lightweight for most lightweights isn't just about being below the weight for a race or two, its about the lifestyle of making sure you never go over because once you do its hard to go back down.

It is really (in my opinion) one of the worst parts of rowing.

  • it is impossible to pull that bad. you would have to pull with your pinky to get that bad of a split

  • I don't really understand what you are saying...Because 6:15 for a lightweight TO ME is not "bad"...

  • Nothing more scary to a rower than the anxiety of those 2ks!O_o

  • I hear you!

  • Is this a light weight four for races?

  • Nah, just happened to be these four up. Another group went after.

  • Dam, 6:20's for the lights!

This is below 155 lbs right?

    my PR was 6:47.4

  • I think its 160 lbs in college.

  • 160 individual limit

    ~155 boat avg limit

  • my friend just pulled a 6:18

    2k's are the worst

  • Im only new to rowing, but find 10k tests the worst!

  • what where the erg times

  • I don't have the exact times, but approximately...

    (from left to right)

    low 6:30s

    6:20

    low 6:40s

    low 6:40s

  • oh yea that alright i guess

  • @rgrellas Is the guy 2nd from left/bottom really pulling a 6:20? He's got excellent range and flexibility but can't see that much drive. Kudos to him in the case as you're all rating quite low, particularly him. <30spm is particularly low for juniors/lightweights. Not criticising as I rate my 2ks around 28-29 as well.

  • Yea Cal. That tunnel was dirty. Who are these focused individuals?

This needs to be shared. Thank You Reilly
