Last year i was a coxswain at 128lb and now i am a rower and i recently took my time down to 7:53 i know its not great but how can i get it down and what is appropriate for a rower who wants to be 135. whats a good time for that
hey guys im 15 and ive been doing rowing for about a year and a half. ive done a 2k 5 or 6 times i just want to know what would be a good 2k result for a junior 16 male so i can compare it to my current 2k best?
@TheArdScoilRis it really depends on your weight if you are like around 155 you should really attempt to be around sub 7:30. im guessing you are only a sophomore so you have plenty of time going sub 7.
@d12isgood im 140lbs and 5 foot 11 inches, my last 2k was 7:44, im really hoping to get sub 7:30 cause i really do feel thats the time i should be getting..but my coach doesnt allow me go above 27 str/min so would that be a big influencing factor? we dont have sophmore here in ireland but im guessing ya i probably am .
@TheArdScoilRis oh yea its definitely a factor. this is what most rowers do around here they make the first 500 like low 1:50s splits and the mid 1k they try to hold it at their goal split and then the last it gets alittle tricky so i usually row conservatively so i try to save my power till the last 250 and then i try to sprint. but our sprints are really high in stroke rate. and the 27 str/min is not a bad stroke rate the only thing that it effects is your sprint. most sprint at 33str
@godblessolbas You say your a novice rower, I assume you mean high school... I'm a novice in high school, and I row just under 7 minutes for my 2k. I'm the number one on my Freshman team and #3 overall in the team. However the minimum time for a 2k in the Junior National Team for the United States is 6:45, so I'm not even good enough for that.
As a novice rower, what sort of average split should I be looking for over a 2k? I currently average about 2.03 over a 25 minute UT2 (rate 18) erg and 1.57 over a 10 minute Ut 1 (rate 24) erg.
I love it when your 400-500m into an erg and you can't remember those 400-500m. That feeling where Adrenaline kicks in and you look at the screen realising that the erg is almost over with 1500m to go. Uniquely amazing feeling that only true oarsmen and oarswomen can know.
@slutbucketism WHAT? when i get 500 in im usually fucked and somehow hold on for the worst k of my life then just blank out the last 500 then die on the floor and cry..
@br00mstick1014 my coach held the lightweight record in the 90s with a 6:01...don't assume,it can be done..it happens that lightweights beat heavyweights in somecases. right now the record for lightweights is 5 something.
No one should ever brag about anything. In the end, there's always room for improvement and there's always someone better than you. You may be good at having a nice 2k split but your actual endurance may suck or you have trouble keeping in time with the others in your boat. You may be the most powerful but you may be the one to catch a crab. Life's tough.
@h1bB0ilzZ all you have to do, is slow your recovery and pull your hardest. just use those legs you have. i get approx. 8:00 minutes on my 2k. but that's because i'm a girl and i'm a novice.
these lightweights saying they got 6:15 is rediculous.... seriously thats pretty much impossible... there's no way, because lightweights dont have enough weight to pull the chain that hard... the best heavyweight in my crew has a 6:16... in my lightweight varsity boat the best guy has a 6:58 so STFU lying assholes
@br00mstick1014 your crew is rediculous...:D I am lightweight, am 17 and my best 2k is 6.33....The lightweight record on 2k is 5.58, and average 2k erg for lightweights is 6.20.......weight is not important for rowing as exchanging of oxigen....ask henrik stephansen...:)))
@rico1112222 For a sophomore 7:32 isn't too good, I've just turned 15 and i'm on 6:47. If you want to improve you gotta get some longer ergos in like 20 minutes and half an hours, but keep at it I've known guys who have gone from what you're on now to sub 6:40s in a year
@rico1112222 thats not so good im in 8th grade and pulled a 7:12 and am in the lightweight varsity.... 2k's are all about pushing yourself and breathing.... the strength comes in play later... u gotta push urself 200 fucking percent and take breaths that seem way too big... it will get u through it waaaaaaaaay easier and quicker, so that 200% will seem like 100 instead lol
ok withoutpissing about could someone please suggest a decent split time for me - im 5'11, 150lbs and 22 yrs, no rowing team no coaching, what time for the 2k should i aim for (roughly)before i can start feeling good about myself say next to an actual competitive rower?? answers much apprectiated...
Look, liteweights tht claim theyre pulling 6:15? Ur out of ur mind! Top highschool recruit lwt was at 6:30. And thts already stupid fast. But 6:15??? Thts jst bulshit
@systemofmedown it kinda sucks, but your only grade 8. as you improve, at first, you'll improve by leaps and bounds, and as you get harder and harder, it gets harder to improve.
@systemofmedown If it's your first year, I wouldn't pay too much attention to the time as at your age it's not so much about that type of fitness. I'd say that for an 8th grader (that makes you about 13/14?), that's a time that is full of promise. My first erg was around 8:00 when I was 15 and within a few years I was sub 7. Erg fitness is really something that develops over the years (not JUST through heavy training within a year or two despite certain people's belief)
i fucking hate people who brag about their 2k's on youtube
you all say ur like fucking 6:15 when you probably aren't even sub 7, you talk about how much you know about rowing when in reality, no one would go on youtube to say how good they were
@blemphia So true - Even if people are such erg scores they claim, that has no proof they're good in a boat where it counts. Let them brag about their erg scores, we'll brag about our medals and shirts.
@blemphia well, the thing is.. they do ;) and even if I don't comment it under every video, I still think I'm pretty good. In fact I cant beat the 6;47 on 2k erg, but I only have been rowing for nearly 2 years now.. so what?
I think everyone should have something to push himself, and if it's rowing, then why shouldnt they comment it :D?
Freeski thanks I was stupid enough! that is an amazing score. I saw that wrong. I've done mid-atlantics and yorktown sprint and a bunch of others. A bad mistake that is amazing. Im getting there lol.
During a 2k im always shivering before when it starts I get everything out of my head but the split and maybe lyrics to a song or something! Ya im a sophmore in high school and for my first year I pulled something about a 6:15 or something so it was be under six for a college team!
@Ssenfuma11 That's total bullshit. Yes I am calling you out. I row for one of the most successful high school rowing programs in the US and we don't even have a kid under 6:20. Last year one of our graduates was a CRASH-B world champ and he didn't even have a 6:15 until he was a senior.
