  • So I can isolate with each hand trouble getting both hands to isolate simultaneously.

  • I love you best video lessons around :)

  • i love this watching this video and listening to "over and over" by hot chip

  • Man practicing isolations has really built my shoulders up, you know what you could make poi a type of exercise that is actually fun. Maybe even get professional athletes on board, I mean football players do ballet to build up their core and balance, why not teach quarterbacks some weaves or flowers???

  • Basic lesson here, Wax on, wax off.

  • I love it that you smile when you do this. It's engaging, and you're enjoying it, which is incredibly engaging. Makes me want to listen and watch you because you don't look like you're bored or too serious. ;P

  • I used to do Isolations, with my 2 foot long key chain, at the metro stops, & it would scare the shit out of people waiting on the bus. But I still do really well with it.

  • NICK HALP ME!!! plz

    i keep going too fast

do you have some ancient poi secret to make it not go to fast so i can learn isolations

  • REGROWTH!!!!!!!

  • You are a wizard. I swear. I can't do this.

  • yuou got the iso 3 beat weave down. thats just about as good as they're gonna get. its too hard to change the planes and keep them isolated. damn gravity. =(

  • i want your trousers :D i still find isolations almost impossible tho D:

  • I can't do it..

  • its almost like a barycenter in a binary star system ...or somethign

  • @meenik

Hey what lenght are your poi because i think myn are longer :D

and douse the lenght make a big difference to the type of stuff you can do ?

  • "Stir the soup, bring it up, isolations..... We're on a boat." That made the video for me.

  • Put spikes on the poi and you have an epic martial arts movie idea

  • great tutorial, he explains everything so clearly, and hes cute too!

i hope i can get my spinning to his level one day.

  • damn i must be retarded or something cuz i cant get this shit://

  • lol...WE'RE ON A BOOOAAAT!

  • Wish you were in the US. Don't know where to find lessons like these here. :(

  • @shnookey1979

I said the same thing! Owell, youtube is better than nothing!

  • Meenik is the shit, lol. I love you ,man.

  • i have a couple things to say. first what was that group at the begining of the video? it looked like a spiners paridice. i want to go. second, i still suck at isolations..

  • hey you posted this on my birthday 3 years ago : ) What kind of poi are those?

  • Amazingg ,, !! :D , im a begginer and ive watched ur video so many times but i cant get the hang of the butterfly any tips :P

  • you make poi look so FUCKING easy

  • Very helpful for my isolations, but the thing i really learned from this video is i actually suck at poi, where as before watching this i thought i was a doing good.

  • stir the soup

  • OK, I have a question for you... how long is your poi. I got mine at just arm's length, up to my armpits right? but most of the people I see performing with them seem to be much shorter.. I am using fire poi.. two finger handles and chains, but moves like the buzzsaw seem a little close for comfort with this length. What do you recommend?

  • @multuminparvo Has Voltar been adequately portained?

  • @dowling1981 ...um... pardon me? You talking about spaceghost? Yeah.. I think he ot canned... go figure.

  • @multuminparvo Go to figure upon the hills of thrice?

  • @multuminparvo Length is up to the artist. Arm's length is common, but it's really up to you. Try shortening your leashes to see if you like it any better. Mine are about half the length of my arm, and most people I practice with have theirs about that length as well.

If you like the long leash but want to buzzsaw more comfortably, try wrapping the chain around your hands once or twice prior to moving into the buzzsaw.

  • @foxinsocks506 thanks, I do this, but it still pains me, is there a site for any kind of hand- arm brace type thingy for these problems... that and burning the fool outta yourself whilst spinning fire?

  • dude u realy should make a school and i would love to go to it id love you for ever : DDDDDDDD

  • So after like, 4 weeks of constant practice, I got my right hand to do isolation alright, not great, but passable... my left hand handles it a little under passable... but it's got the right idea... When I try to do isolation with both hands however, my brain begins to malfunction, and my left hand spins the poi at full blast while my right hand slowly loses concentration and loses the isolation... How long did it take everyone else? Am I the only shmo having trouble with this?

  • @aniki91344 it took me at least a month of practicing everyday to get it down. It also depends what you're using. Glowsticks are hard because of how light they are. try a set of poi balls if you haven't yet. It helped me a lot and now i finally have it down.

  • Where did you get your poi?

  • Soooo...do you give private lessons :-D?

  • aw man. Thank you so much. I had no idea what these were called..and I have been driving myself crazy trying to figure out how people do these with their 3beat weaves...

  • these videos are very good...but i can never get over how odd your clothes look lol

    but still good vids :D

  • you are a great teacher!!!

  • yes sir you are gay for knowing how to do this.

  • those pants make me laugh lol. but *ahem good isolations sir. stir that pot!

  • When you start to show the different stalls (around 4:30 ), it looks like the video is being put on reverse a bunch of times. It looks funny and I can't wait to do them.

    Thanks for the tutorial.

  • from what material are your pois of? and what length? :)

  • isolations are easier with my sock poi than with my glow poi

    x[

  • im really struggling with these!!!! so frustrating, the poi just seems to stop or slow down when i try to iso

  • you are amazing isolations turn me on big time. haha had to say. thank you and now i g and practice.

  • ssshhhhhuppp xD the earth chase the moon!!

    :9

  • I can wear normal trousers when i use poi? Why do all these poi tutorial people have funny trousers? hahahaha my mum think's it's a good fashion (she's being sarcastic.) hahahahahahaha this is quite famusing but a good tutorial thanks!

  • well for me, it's a bit of Extra 'saftey' room (like an Air bag?) better the Poi and my "Family Jewels".

That and they're Comfy but at the end of the day: spin what you're comftable in. that's what matters

  • @TazlorTirenna yeah nothing ruins a good spinning session like a shot in the nads

  • @tiptoetink Cute that you watch youtube videos on spinning poi with your mom ;3

  • Add more glow sticks man. I got glowsticks that have been used and now have neon colored duct tape around them. Use those in combo with unbroken sticks and tape or rubberband the base so they stay as one. Gives really nice weight.

  • DUDE! ISOs ARE FREAKIN HARD ON glowstrings.

  • all your videos are so smooth and helped me so much... i started a month ago and i couldnt learn any of these on my own. so thank you.

  • kakaloka nag ka buhol buhol kamay ko.. pero sobrang gusto ko sya

  • Videos or it didn't happen. Provide video evidence that you were doing this as a child with no instruction and there will be belief, if not, you're just another liar on the internet. =P

  • thank you so much i have been trying to find a tutorial on isolations yu have helped me alot hope to get good and show you my progress

  • I stirred the soup (good explanation! and a good tongue twister too!) But I'm still having some trouble, when I try to get it going my chain creates a nice orbit but the head just chills there in the middle (I use the oval link HoP Monkey Fists, if it matters)

What am I doing wrong? Am I not moving my hands enough? Are my chains too long? I'm 6' tall, so I did pick longer chains...

Every time I see one of your videos I realize how much I still need to learn! I have mad respect for you!

  • Hahaha "...We're on a boat..."

  • where do you buy the shit to practice poi

  • Buy a pair of long socks and put a pair of socks in the end of each. That's a cheap way to do it =p

  • 5:29- 5:32 OMG! How i can do this? friends learn me this but i still don't get this!:(

  • This one has completely thrown me.

I can do it when the poi is facing the ground but if I try to bring it up t oface the wall then it all goes tits up.

Is there any special technique to getting this reight besides practise practise practise??

  • do you mean your plane isn't straight? if so go towards a wall and have the poi avoid the wall helping you to keep the poi straight

  • Thanks for that tip.

This has helped me no end :)

  • Man you're really good congrats =]

  • nick you should come to new york city that would be awesome tell me if you do

  • i cannot do this..:(

  • you rock man !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!;)

  • hola

en algún sitio existen estos vídeos con subtitulo al español :)

  • you're awesome Nick!!

    a great teacher for sure

  • do you need swivels to do isolations? i havent practiced very much, but before i practice a lot. i want to know if its worth it.

  • No, you don't need swivels :)

  • @squirrelman26 practice is always worth it.

  • dude your a great poi'er but honestley you need some new pants.!

  • I like his pants. D:

  • i always wondered, can u do this with glowsticks too or does it only work with POI's?

  • why wouldnt it work with glowsticks?

  • well its just i havent seen any glowstringers do it so Im just wondering if it's possible.

  • its for sure possible :) ill be displaying it as this weekends rave

  • that move is defiantly kiq. congratz to all who can do this amazing move.

  • they make it look so easy XD

  • those are hard for me to do! but i suppose it'll take more than 15 minutes of practice lol :p

  • O_O'

  • Isolations make me feel like I'm looking at a strobe light.

  • wtf is this i was thinking this was dance isolation

  • jeeeeeeeeeeeeez those are soooooooooo cool thank you soo much man I'm gonna keep trying and keep trying until it's perfect then move on I'm DEFINITELY GOING TO DO THIS!

  • this instructor has some of the best tutorials imo, for me anyway after looking at many tuts i always come back to his and finally get the move done. if i could meet him irl i would show him my thanks w/a big fat bowl of my best danky nuggets.

  • ok that cool but how do you make it???

    it looks so simply!

  • dank but no matter how hard i try i cant pull this off ive been working on it for like 3 and 1/2 months and still cant get it but oh well props to all those who can its dank

  • I have been trying for months to do this and I just can't get it. I finally got the backwards 3beatweave last night after many failed attempts, but I just really can't get my hands do this on a wall plane. Argghh.

  • Stalling tricks are awesome when you are doing it all freestyle and need an extra second to incorporate another move.

  • isolation's are dank and staling to changing planes jeese

  • Nevermind, I got it, he is Mr. Cheezle.

  • This is one of the weirdest looking guys I have ever seen, yet he is a genius. He reminds me a lot of my figure drawing teacher, Krieg.

  • these guys call shit by weird ass names

  • most moves have multiple names depending on who is teaching

  • AAAAAARRRRRGGG!!! you make it look so simple!!! lol... I've learned a lot tho. thx... cheers from México!!!

  • best explanation EVER! thank you!!

  • oh thanks i cant do it since i watch this jeje

  • ugh isolations are so hard O.o

  • hey nick, what are those poi ur using?

they're really good for seeing which hands doing what, and the finger loops look better than the usual double finger loops you get.

    Jet

  • well yea, you should manufacture thouse, i would buy 3 pairs for my self

  • those r cone poi from homeofpoi(dot)com

    peace

  • I have heard that hybrids is when you mix 2 diffrent moves, not just the one you show. if im wrong, please say so

  • you rigth, in other videos he shows othres, in this video he showed os like 3 or 4, i didn't remember

  • Incredibly impressive! Thank you for putting this video up.

  • ahh.! esooo es paraa niñitaas.! koon los glows.! ees lo chingoon.! :D:A:A aTTE.! glowtj.!

  • que chingaos es un glows??

  • hey ya sabes q es un glows? jajajaja

  • Hey si saben díganme jajaja, porque creo que estoy igual y esta mamada no más no me sale :P

  • nunca me respondieron we jajaja

pero pues de q ya m,e salieron me salieron jeje

    solo es practica

la izquierda es la q me costodo pedo

pero sigo sin saber q es un glow jaja

  • oh..

    so that's the difference

  • Interesting! I've alway thought poi was food....

This kind of looks like pain-free 'Click-Clacks.'

  • but its actually harder than it looks...

    but i love poi!

  • K so i have isolations pretty much down and if you were wondering like i was, isolations ARE much easier with heavy poi. still doable with glowsticks if your l33t enough :p

  • yea men you are rigth, i used to have a soft pois in order to dont hurt my self when i was starting, but now that i now how to move, i started to use heavy pois and they move easelyer, i can do incredibles orbitals, but when i take back my fire pois that are lower, its harder, and imposible to make it as smoth as whit my sock heavy pois, why woul be that?

  • They feel different when spinning. You just have to practice with your fire poi a lot and it'll become smoother over time.

  • What are your practicing with??

  • heh yea mon i would but all my soccer sox are friggin well worn and shaped, i figure its a good idea to have a straight sock, or does the heal bend not make a difference? anyways thanks for the feedback.

  • @Ravn8:

Invest in some sock poi? INVEST? ^^ Just put a rennis ball or some rive in a sock, make a knot (or not :P ) and then you've got a pair of sock poi in your hands!

  • hey meenik i know this is kind of a nub question but im trying this with glow sticks and i am blaming the failure on the weight of the glowstick. should i invest in some sock poi to learn these?

  • good pants or not this guy really knows what hes talking about and has helped me in a lot of ways. inspiring video!

  • Fantastic lesson! I really love the surreal look of the stalls, especially when they're done with lit poi. I can't wait for the weather to warm a bit so I can start practicing!

  • lol superduper spinny- what?

XD glowstringers just call them orbitals =P

how heavy are pois compared to glowsticks?

i was just wondering if the weight makes it easier..

  • Poi, generally, are heavier than glowsticks. Though I have a friend with a pair of poi that have cotton heads (Cotton in plastic bags) and

she does orbitals just fine. I think it really just depends on the person if the weight matters or not.

  • You make it all look so smooth. And your pants are sweet.

  • Isolations aaaaahgghga! Why don't they work for me? But, OK, this video is really good.

  • I think because when we all learn, we start with extensions and get all excited when it finally works, so to re-teach our bodies to do an isolation is like learning to walk again. I do like how it can break up an otherwise dull extension. Keep at it. :)

  • I have what might be a silly question, but anyhoo...

What effect does the weight/type/length of string of the poi have isolations?

The poi im using have really long strings (too long for buzzsaw long) and a heavy end in comparison to the rather light string. Ive been having quite a bit of trouble doing isolations, but they become soooo much easier when I shorten the string around my finger.

    So any answers? :-)

  • The weight if the string doesnt affect isolations. Thats for sure. the tipe counts at the beginning, but as soon as you can keep the srting straight, it wont matter.(be careful with twists in the string!) Half-an-arm-lenght srings are ideal (only my opinion). The weight of the head counts the most. the heavier it is, the easier to control. Good luck!

  • i have been practicing for 1 week and 3 days a lot!! 25 hours per day and guess what?!

nope, i cant get it... xD

dont u have a easier way or something like that?

    need some help! :S

  • now i finally get it ...but i still cant do it :P...more practise

  • at about 5 min and 6 seconds-ish you do something called and inversion i believe. at least i think thats what you called it. could you possably explain how to do that? i cant quite figure it out.

it would be a great help thanks.

  • Its strted like a hyperloop but you isolate it all the way. That will cause the poi get between your body and your arms. Exactly its an isolated hyperloop, but im sure youve found some tutorial vids since you posted this comment...

  • yo dude this is a great tutorial man. hey is there a huge difference between poi and glowsticking? if so please explain thanks.

  • yeah the weight makes a huge difference it is alot easier to isolate poi glowsticks are light wich makes it hard

  • Hey ppl. This is a great tut. After you have learned to isolate with each hand, you should exercise the movement around 5'09". That shot is really genius and helped me lots!! Thanks Nick.

  • THANKIES!

  • wow your stalls look so so so goo, when you stat there and just did continues stalls my head was trippin so bad :P

  • When You come here in BRAZIL ?? :D

  • just what i was looking for! nick, you are pushing us.

    -cameron of south goa

  • I love you, Nick, but... what are you doing with your hair??!! It looks pretty awful...

  • Nice tutorial! that'll definatly give me some stuff to play with.

Any plans on making a followup video about linear isolations? i've seen the term thrown around a few times but i'm not quite sure what they are or how to do them

  • great tutorial nick......... you rock

  • I LOVE the concept of exiting a stall in a different direction than you entered it. I just started playing with it about a month ago and it just allows for some crazy patterns.

  • an excellent video loving the stalls at the end

when are you going to start selling the poi that you use in these tutorials

  • ThanxLots 4 that tut! Excellent shot around 5'09" Never seen that angle. Helped me to understand that move completely. Very funny explanation: "...and you try to stir the soup around the poi" - LOL

  • I love your videos, thanks!

  • hahahahaha 'opens up all the different ways to do funny things with your poi' :> .....nick come to england and teach us :>

  • darn, i wish i had the first comment on this video, haha! excellent indeed!

  • excellent !
