Man practicing isolations has really built my shoulders up, you know what you could make poi a type of exercise that is actually fun. Maybe even get professional athletes on board, I mean football players do ballet to build up their core and balance, why not teach quarterbacks some weaves or flowers???
I love it that you smile when you do this. It's engaging, and you're enjoying it, which is incredibly engaging. Makes me want to listen and watch you because you don't look like you're bored or too serious. ;P
I used to do Isolations, with my 2 foot long key chain, at the metro stops, & it would scare the shit out of people waiting on the bus. But I still do really well with it.
yuou got the iso 3 beat weave down. thats just about as good as they're gonna get. its too hard to change the planes and keep them isolated. damn gravity. =(
i have a couple things to say. first what was that group at the begining of the video? it looked like a spiners paridice. i want to go. second, i still suck at isolations..
Very helpful for my isolations, but the thing i really learned from this video is i actually suck at poi, where as before watching this i thought i was a doing good.
OK, I have a question for you... how long is your poi. I got mine at just arm's length, up to my armpits right? but most of the people I see performing with them seem to be much shorter.. I am using fire poi.. two finger handles and chains, but moves like the buzzsaw seem a little close for comfort with this length. What do you recommend?
@multuminparvo Length is up to the artist. Arm's length is common, but it's really up to you. Try shortening your leashes to see if you like it any better. Mine are about half the length of my arm, and most people I practice with have theirs about that length as well.
If you like the long leash but want to buzzsaw more comfortably, try wrapping the chain around your hands once or twice prior to moving into the buzzsaw.
@foxinsocks506 thanks, I do this, but it still pains me, is there a site for any kind of hand- arm brace type thingy for these problems... that and burning the fool outta yourself whilst spinning fire?
So after like, 4 weeks of constant practice, I got my right hand to do isolation alright, not great, but passable... my left hand handles it a little under passable... but it's got the right idea... When I try to do isolation with both hands however, my brain begins to malfunction, and my left hand spins the poi at full blast while my right hand slowly loses concentration and loses the isolation... How long did it take everyone else? Am I the only shmo having trouble with this?
@aniki91344 it took me at least a month of practicing everyday to get it down. It also depends what you're using. Glowsticks are hard because of how light they are. try a set of poi balls if you haven't yet. It helped me a lot and now i finally have it down.
aw man. Thank you so much. I had no idea what these were called..and I have been driving myself crazy trying to figure out how people do these with their 3beat weaves...
When you start to show the different stalls (around 4:30 ), it looks like the video is being put on reverse a bunch of times. It looks funny and I can't wait to do them.
I can wear normal trousers when i use poi? Why do all these poi tutorial people have funny trousers? hahahaha my mum think's it's a good fashion (she's being sarcastic.) hahahahahahaha this is quite famusing but a good tutorial thanks!
Add more glow sticks man. I got glowsticks that have been used and now have neon colored duct tape around them. Use those in combo with unbroken sticks and tape or rubberband the base so they stay as one. Gives really nice weight.

I stirred the soup (good explanation! and a good tongue twister too!) But I'm still having some trouble, when I try to get it going my chain creates a nice orbit but the head just chills there in the middle (I use the oval link HoP Monkey Fists, if it matters)

Hey ppl. This is a great tut. After you have learned to isolate with each hand, you should exercise the movement around 5'09". That shot is really genius and helped me lots!! Thanks Nick.
Nice tutorial! that'll definatly give me some stuff to play with.
Any plans on making a followup video about linear isolations? i've seen the term thrown around a few times but i'm not quite sure what they are or how to do them
I LOVE the concept of exiting a stall in a different direction than you entered it. I just started playing with it about a month ago and it just allows for some crazy patterns.
ThanxLots 4 that tut! Excellent shot around 5'09" Never seen that angle. Helped me to understand that move completely. Very funny explanation: "...and you try to stir the soup around the poi" - LOL
So I can isolate with each hand trouble getting both hands to isolate simultaneously.
