  • and it's not an iphone... it's a big ass table... take that apple.

  • First at all: I wouldn't buy this, because it's too soon. I would wait for the Windows 8 to be launched and after that, probably with a lower price, I'd buy this W7 surface.

And the second thing I wanna say is that we don't need "cool" applications, we need useful ones. What if that surface would also act like a scanner? And this seems possible from that video. It would be useful and also cool!

  • Ok people get this! Apple is making products for consumers like you and me and Microsoft is making products for business. Get that?

  • Screw ipads

  • Hopefully 10 years from now you can get these things relatively cheap and you can do everything on it.

  • this is revolutionary. i want to be able to have one at home. :O

  • I was in the front row :)

  • approx. 7500

  • How much

  • he forgot to mention that the blue blob you saw was a new version of interactive BSOD touch sensitive.

  • version one was $15000 so since this is cheaper its might be like $8000 or $9000.

  • INFRARED SENSOR PIXELS!?!?

    Manufactured into the LCD itself?!

The LCD screen is an input/output device?

  • it looks like the paper is part of the screen!!

  • It looks like the Paper is under Water :O

  • Give me RTS game on this :D

Image what you could you :)

  • The animated guy shows his middle finger at 2:04

  • I remember a long time ago Apple got a patent for a screen with mini-cameras in it that people thought would be used in videoconferencing. I wonder are Micro$oft "borrowing" ideas from Apple again?

  • i thought he was gunna call out steve jobs xD

  • this looks awesome but this technology is kinda scary

if the rumours about microsoft spying on people through kinect are true this would be the next step

  • @lTheRealDealGamingl Nah, I get nakey in front of my kinect all the time =] I don't feel like they are watching me =] I even spank my booty to make sure I'm ain't scared =D

  • sooo....how much would this cost?

  • ahhh man what a cool technologies!! i guess after some time actually screens will be acting as a camera and no more special camera lenses needed!! lol

  • Kinect + surface.. WOWOWOWOWOWOW. Lets not get too advanced.

  • what the fuck is this ?

and we need remake of windows XP.

  • MS needs to stop developing this shit for commercial use, get out to retail already!!!

  • @803brando In the beginning of high tech, you won't be able to afford any of this "developed shit". It has to go through the commercial sector where they make money and make it cheap enough for normal ppl to afford. Do you think the first computer was in someone's house? Not even the first Apple "Personal Computer" was used maily for "personal use". They are all business machines.

  • @rasmasyean a computer is nothing new, they didnt invent something completely new. they merged two existing technologies together. how does it "have to" go through the commercial sector? there are 1000X more end consumers than commercial consumers.

  • @803brando The optical sensor screen is new. If you think all "tech" can be sold directly to consumers look at the cell phone. You think that's new? It started as a military communication device...then car phone for execs...then large bricks for "important ppl"...then eventually, little kids. No one normal is going to buy this if it's $10,000. Prolly not even $5,000.

  • @rasmasyean with $1500 some would buy. But set it as 700-800€ and it would sell a lot. You already get 42" LCD televisions with 650-700€. And optical sensor screen is not a new technology, it is fairy old technology in computer age. As over 5 years old technology is something old and gone (think about Windows XP). Even the touch screen technology is somewhere 1971. So it is already a over 40 years old technology (basics) what is just in last 3-4 years being taken in real use in normal markets.

  • @TheFri13 wtf you talkin about? Research labs where it took $100 million to develop the first 1 pixel optical sensor LCD prototype? The computer was also invented by "the father of Computer Science" in England...to fight Nazis. This is NOT a "touch screen". watch it again. The only OSLCD I know of that was mass produced for consumers was a small little mouse pad thing on a sharp laptop a couple of years ago. And it prolly bombed.

  • @rasmasyean This is a touchscreen. It is not a capasitive touch screen or resistive touchscreen technology but something newer. You could have go to check existing big size OSLCD screens in CES'11 where the Finnish company had them presented for CES'11 customers. And they are sold and placed in Japan in bars and restaurants. In Spanish those are in museums and so on. That if MS has not brought technology for markets does not mean anyone else has not done it already "long time" ago. Search OSLCD.

  • @803brando You are right, the touch screen what is used on that is nothing new, over 5 years old technology. But if you slap windows to touch screen, you can not use it well. You need totally new applications and especially every app need to have a UI what is designed for touch screens. That is the main problem why tablets never started to sell in last 10 years as you had windows with WIMP UI on them. Apple toke existing technology and made very good UI for touch screens and it sells a lot.

  • @TheFri13 Once again, you need to brush up on your understanding of technology business. It wasn't just the "touchscreen" that made the iPhone craze. It's mostly the AppStore actually, where Apple created a virtual free-market economy arround a little device and invited all sorts of ppl to compete and make various apps and products where PROFIT is shared. This "created weatlh" and started a "rush" so to speak and the rest is history. The "tech" was a small part of it. The eBiz was a huge part

  • @rasmasyean iTunes (Apps, music, videos) was just existing service for iPhone users. The iPhone spear what allowed it to jump top of the markets was specially the touch screen and how it was used. I have owned touch screen phones since '01 from multiple manufacturers. Nokia, Motorola, Ericsson (was not part Sony at those times) and were bad because they did not use good touch screens or did not focus how to design GUI's to give the control for the user.used technology was not brand new in it.

  • @TheFri13 what you have said is all very true. I just dont see microsoft's point in dragging out its 2.0 version out for another 10 years in a very limited market. The MS surface version 1.0 started development in 2001, 10 years ago. I just dont see how MS can stay competitive when apple releases a portable version in 1/4 the time. all in all when ms decides to reach more customers(retail), i think apple will have already released something identical or slightly better. its a shame really.

  • @803brando Yes. Microsoft is just too slow because their executives does not understand what is potential in any other manner than profit for stock holders. As Steve Jobs said, MS does not have a taste. MS focus for very big mass markets, while competitors focus for smaller markets and later MS tries to crush competitors with its size on all different markets. Like on these optical light touch screens MS has already lost the high end customers (museums, bar etc) for competitors.

  • @rasmasyean The problem was not the price on the first personal computer (Simon) from 1949. But people actually didn't have any use with it. Not even companies bought personal computers until IBM invented PC what was cheap and sold licenses for other manufacturers to sell PC-compatible devices and software. It was the PC what really turned the personal computer markets totally around. It is all about software with computers, not the hardware. Without software there is no use and there is none.

  • @TheFri13 Yeah...and the hardware required to run decent software has to be AFFORDABLE and PRACTICAL! You think Apple invented the multitouch screen concept too? Or that it was invented right before the iPhone came out?

  • @rasmasyean What you think, touch screens base ideas are from 70's and there have been lots of different commercical products for mass markets since 90's in different tablets and phones.

Apple had even designed working touch screen phone at 1983 what user used with a pen or finger but did not never release it to markets as markets were not ready and it was too expensive with its touch screen.

  • Lets count how many comments are gonna be like...

"omg! That's one a bigass iPad!" XD

  • 01:05 wth! They didn't invent that? Sharp had the Optical Sensor LCD years ago! What the difference? Microsoft's is IR vs. visible???

  • I'm half Jesus.

  • This thing is freakin' awesome. :) $7,600? I think I can handle that...NOT! :DD

  • That's all fine and dandy, but everytime I see a demo for such advanced stuff I always ask myself: WHO THE F*** NEEDS THIS SH**???

    xD

  • @Gahro As they advertised, it's been for the commerical stuff. The military has used many of these such things for years, but they don't tell your that. And prolly air-port traffic control and stuff like this too with bigger screens. Cops used it to manage superbowl and stuff like that, etc. When it gets cheaper, you too will be eating on one one day just so you can keep your kids from crying at the table. lol

  • that's one bigass table.

  • Wait... what? Microsoft made something that actually looks COOL!?!?

What an interesting new world we live in.

  • @killaman777 they had this a couple years ago. Just a bigger version.

  • can u imagine porn on this thing?

  • that's a big ass iPad

  • Cant wait till they come out with Surface coffee tables!

  • I see this thing making dramatic changes in the workplace. Cool :D

  • This is really nice - but my GOD the Courier would have been a lot more exciting, had it been possible. The concept UI on it was just astounding.

  • DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS.

  • Just let us buy the fucking thing already

  • You know what, those fancy Mac fags think that they are the upper class. LFOL. Mac Store what? What is that shit?

  • Every pixel is like a camera? That does sound pretty amazing.

  • in/output device screen/scanner in the same device! amazing! microsoft! + kinect + wp7 + cloud services + bing + win7 + photosynth + montage + WWT + Tuva + bingmaps ... no end for creativity!

  • AMAZING MICROSOFT INNOVATION MOMENTUM!

  • Wow, this is neat. Does it connect to Mac Store?

  • enlarged tablet

  • this is pretty cool, amazing technology.

  • i'd rather have a laptop

  • lol he keeps rubbing it like hes high or something

  • this thing wont make more job places it will cut....a lot

  • all this 3d n new pc bull shit i will never see.lol it's for you cats with money. just remember you cant have it forever.

  • @Gum2Gum respect

  • /watch?v=rbAF5HTjBmw

  • I'd love to have a few of these in my house. Too bad they're probably gonna cost more then a new car.

  • @stbays

    Its a 1000 bucks

  • @mikegrung

Really? Wow, my desktop cost more then that and I hand built it.

Guess I should start saving up ^_^

  • Very hard stuff to devolup

  • would be great to use that sensor thing to play an RTS game, just grab your units(like highlighting them) then touch where you want them to go/attack =)

  • @Johny40Se7en i thought about that too lol

  • @Johny40Se7en Yes please -> Starcraft II gaming!!!

  • @Johny40Se7en u can play R.U.S.E on it.

  • 3:13 ...so Steve if you want to come back out... lol Play on Steve Jobs?

  • Pixel sense? my god thats unreal...

  • YAY, BLUE SCREEN!!! :D

  • watch apple bring out there version and call it revolutionary and its gonna change the world. when microsoft have had this for years

  • this is new, congrats Microsoft.. we gonna wait what apple gonna make with Microsoft outdated technology.. that what they usually do.. create something beautiful and expensive from an outdated tech.. only ignorant use apple.. haha and they call themselves tech savvy.. please..

  • lol he got 10 (inches) and he got 10

  • Steve take Megan Fox out here and let her boobs hit on the table and you can actually see the silicone!

  • for once microsoft actually did something unreal

    xbox is a FLOP

    windows vista was a FLOP

    PIXEL SENSE IS FUTURISTIC IMMENSENESS

  • take that, apple

  • When he first said Pixel Sense, I thought he said Pixel Sex! lolololol

  • i'd prefer to build a super computer which i could make for a fraction of the price, and then i could just hook it up to a large touch screen. i'd probably save at least half the price, and it would be MUCH more powerful than any dualcore device...

  • omg i want one please can i have one please pelase please,

  • epic cant wait to do some gaming on this shizz

  • INB4 Apple copies this and calls it a revolution!

  • this would be awesome if it didnt cost 1 trillion dollars

  • @Dr1Great it's cheaper then microsoft surface 1, more advanced etc

in one or two years this kind of thing will be for peoples homes and they'll be soldout before they know what hit them .. go microsoft

  • lol what are they thinking? this is useless..

  • @DTACAPTCAVE Are you kidding me? I just spent 5 hours in class yesterday learning Processing and Open Frameworks so that we can create user experiences that go beyond the mouse-keyboard paradigm. The aim of this machine and machines like it is to further the human-computer interaction to its most basic and most comprehensible form. Gone are the static keys and proprietary controls, now you are the controller. There's a reason we don't have cranks and wheels anymore.

  • @MobiusCoin What class are you taking? It sounds interesting.

  • @MobiusCoin Now instead of "F1 F2 F4..." you can do "Fireball LightiningBolt HeailingPotion..."

  • lol so many tards here with no clue. ms surface is so more advanced than a shitty ipad. And microsoft has done a great job to evolve it. I hope they manage to bring these to normal consumers in the next years...

  • AMAZING INNOVATION AGAIN by Microsoft! Each pixel as a camera!

Microsoft is changing UEx FOR EVER!

    Awesome!

    Kinect!

  • @klo1777 now this is good qualitly unlike piece of shit kinect

  • @klo1777 Apple has a patent for every screen pixel being as a camera from 2006. The Apples idea is that you do not anymore need a webcam as a screen itself acts like a webcam. So instead weird situation where you look other person video to eyes, the person sees you watching away from the video.

So with Apple technology you can watch directly to other person eyes. And Finnish company has patents as well for this technology, the devices are in use CES '11 for all visitors. multitouch.fi

  • @TheFri13 You have no clue what you are talking about. Sharp already came out with a laptop with a small "optical sensor LCD". And talk about defying physics. You need a lens to focus your image for a "webacm". You can "scan" something on an optical sensor LCD by laying on the screen, however. Nice try trying to extrapolate some futuristic hollywood crap from reality.

  • @rasmasyean First of all, I didn't speak anything about optics. I know optics and I just said that Apple has a patent for that what I told. You can search it easily with keywords "Apple mixed webcam display". And secondly, as I said, Finnish company has as well already sold the technology to CES'11 for being used for visitors there and it is being sold world wide. The first touch screen wall was in use 4 years ago in size of 100" as well. Long before MS first surface.

  • @TheFri13 Once again, you have a crude understanding of what a touch screen is. This is vision system. There's a major difference. You DON'T understand optics. You don't even know what a touch sceen is, obviously.

  • @klo1777 The Finnish company says: "MultiTouch demonstrates the MultiTaction platform at CES 2011 in its booth #15119 in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center."

So if you are going there or someone else is going to CES'11 and wants to feel how does that kind work already at realworld (not just MS own prototype) then go there.

  • Can we have that Demo in public? I need $100

  • Big ass upas lol but I don't if it was just me but the paper looked like it was actually sumberged under water XD

  • Why the fuck isnt Kinect like this.

  • @6MetaL6Core6 Do you know how much a generation 1 Surface costs?

  • i like it

  • Windows sucks! Only good for gaming

  • @PaQuit

yeah! just gaming and everything! but windows sucks! whoooo!!!!

  • Big ass ipad lol

  • OMFG IT'S A BIG FUCKING I PAD!

  • Steve come back out i thot about Jobs :)

  • I love how they had to explain that people have ten fingers/

  • "what really makes it magical"

finally Microsoft catching up to Apple's philosophy. Took freakin 40 years

  • LoL i thought steve had just 8 fingers :D

  • AWESOME

  • What camera did u use to record this?
