this video must be ancient, isn't Pinchas an older man now? in this video he looks to be about 30 years old. I wonder how he would play this piece now. I wonder if he would still do it with a full orchestra, or if he would do it more historically correct.
@Harmonieuniverselle o those HUGE violas???!! they r missin? never notice......actually i know very little about stringed instruments.....but still this is a nice interpretation! dont u feel so?
The Conductor is unnecessary here - I used to give clues from my harpsichord - waste of money it is and this is what I hate, friends, but to do justice to performance, well done jsb Leipzig
Bring on the Allegro - 3rd movement! Best part of the composition, and one of the finest moments in all of the Brandenburgs. If you have it, please post it!
Me too, the sound is so clear and all the musicians and solist of the orchestra are great, but also the unforgettable maestro in front of this magic scene!!!
this is slower than most baroque orchestras take this piece. i like this tempo--it makes it much more transparent. you can hear all of the musical intricacies.
Yes, I only heard this slow tempo once before. I love that I found another performance with this tempo, one can really hear and enjoy the different voices and "conversation" between the instruments.
The conductor here is pretty much unneeded. I mean how many players are there? And these are world class musicians. They could play this music in their sleep.
@cstamitz ZUBIN MEHTA is *ALWAYS* needed and always loved and I am sure these two marvelous Violinists are honored to be with him or they would not have accepted. Who would not want to appear with Maestro Mehta for G-d sakes!!!!!
I really like the slower pace because I feel like I can hear all the notes. This is my favorite recording by far.

They will play faster if it's 14' size violin rather than 16.3' size violin LOL

Just found that.... The two violas da gamba were replaced by two cellos.

It doesn't sound right without the gambas.

In lieu of an applause, the audience decided to hit the performers with a barrage of coughs...

There must be a reason Mehta is conducting here - I just don't know what it could possibly be.
