  • you need to relax a bit bro

  • Jeff, can you do your hair like Ace Ventura in one of your next videos?

  • Liking one animal more than the other is a strictly human characteristic. Every animal is beautiful in its own way and should be respected for it is. But I am human, :)), so I say that the birds of prey are the most beautiful and impressive animals in the world. Could you also make some vids with a golden eagle or bald eagle or peregrine falcon? Because I see you go to different zoos in order to make your clips. Also, is that barn owl a subadult, because its face is not white yet? Great clip.

  • Nice video but that Harris looks like it needs a bit of a coping! :P

  • great no dislikes cause these birds are beutifal

  • Aboslutely love your videos! watched about 4 of them today and going to check them all. great choices of topics and interesting facts!

  • i love great horned owls

  • that not a barn owl thats tawney owl they both live in the uk

  • mate thats not a barn owl its a tawney owl we have them in uk

  • Awesome! Harris Hawk is also of my favorite bird of pray

  • Excellent video. Thanks for posting. I am an associate member of the Texas Hawking Assocation. Dont own any birds, but the hunts are always wonderful to watch.

  • gr8 video but you gotta get rid of the chewing tobaco there cowbow lol

  • Why do you have big eyes?

So that I can see my food better.

  • more birds, please!

  • i like the other owl the first one not the common one

  • lol listen to the mouse screeching!

  • I love owls aswell! Only seen one once though.

  • it standed OVER 4 feet

  • you know i saw a pic of a haast eagle of course illustrated because now its extinct. THOSE WERE MONSTER BIRDS. THEY WEGHID OVER 37 KG HADN A WINGSPAN OF 4 METERS AND COULD KILL OSTRIGES MOA AND EVEN CASSOWARIES. THEY ARE AMAZING ARENT THEY? please reply

  • how do you train these birds? are they friendly with everyone?

  • I use positive reinforcement with them. They are not friendly with everyone, they have their favorites. With proper training, it can take anywhere from a few days to a few months to have these birds flying in tip top shape. Thanks for watching.

  • Positive reinforcement. The best way to train any bird. I use this metheod on my parrot, and I have to say, it really is remarkable how frendly these hunting scavengers can beome so socal.

  • @ssundar99 friendly? they are flying dinosaurs,My brother has been raising them for over thirty years,Owls, Hawks,Falcons many varieties of each. I would just love when the ladies would come over to see the "Pretty" birds and he would warn them to take off their bright red lipstick as the birds might think it was meat and try to eat them. He's got a few scars from his own birds but for most part safe if you study and understand their behavior. He riases them for hunting. He is a "bird brain"

  • @ssundar99 My brother and his fellow raptors do a great service for these birds. They are responsible for saving ,caring for and releasing many back into the wild. My brother raises them and flys them but very quickly they decide not to return to handler and go back to the wild, then he'll capture another and often breed them. The method that responsible raptor's use increases the wild bird population as their infant mortality rate in wild is high,

  • LOL its dermott from sinbad

  • Owls kick bass.

  • keep up the good work! i'm surprised you don't have more views!

  • Thanks for watching!

  • your a great person. very caring for animals. birds of prey are my favourite animals. so 1 question. can they pick up very large prey like moose. i heard they can pick up 200 pounds of animal carcass

  • Thank you for the kind words. A general rule of thumb for a bird of prey is that they can carry what they weigh. So an 8 pound eagle can probably carry off a 7-8 pound animal. So anytime you hear of a bird carrying off something huge like a moose, it is a myth.

  • thanks

  • @JefftheZooGuy thats not true actually jeff. Eagles can only carry off about half there body weight, it would cost them way to much energy to lift off with their own body weight. So an 8 pound eagle can only carry about 4 MAYBE 5 pounds at the most.

  • @JefftheZooGuy thats not true at all. An eagle can only carry at most up to half it body weight. It would be entirely to cost inefficient to be able to lift your own body weight. so an 8 pound eagle could only lift up to 4 MAYBE 5 pounds of prey.

  • Ive been fascinated about owls ever since i saw Harry Potter and how beautiful they are (: Do you know what kind of owl Hedwig is from the movie Harry Potter?

  • Owls are great, aren't they? Hedwig is a Snowy Owl. They are incredible. You can find them in the Arctic. Every now and then they do come down to the U.S, but that is actually south for them! Thanks for watching.

  • You're my hero of the week for sure! Owls are my second favorite of all creatures. Now I have to find a turtle clip and you'll be my hero of the month!!

Thank you Jeff for your most informative channel....

  • Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad you are enjoying the videos!

  • Hi Jeff, great videos as always.....curious tho...can bald eagles and owls talk like some parrots??

  • No, they cannot. Thanks for watching!

  • Great, I'll check it out. I just met some Scottish falconers in Amsterdam last month. You guys are good!! Beautiful country. Thanks for watching.

  • The owl flying through that small opening with its wings tucked reminds me of what accipiters look like as they fly through the woods hunting.

  • Exactly. I wanted to demonstrate the quick refelexes that birds of prey have. It's so cool!

  • Man, I wish you had displayed a Snowy Owl. They're the most beautiful raptors in the world to me.

By the way, why is it that the facial disks of owls differ so much for different species if they're all hearing-dependent predators? The barred and great grey owls have huge facial disks, but Eagle and Snowy owls have next to none!

  • I'd love to have a Snowy Owl. However, since I'm based in Florida, it's tough to have one. They don't do good in the heat.

  • As for the facial disks, it is often based on the hunting locations and prey size. Eagle Owls and even Snowy's take prey that is easy to see, so hearing isn't as crucial. As for the location side of things, Barred and Grey's are often hunting in forested locations, allowing prey to hide under leaves and logs. Hearing these items makes it easier to stalk them, since they are hard to find. Thanks for watching!

  • I understand. Still, I hear that there was a sighting of a Snowy Owl in the Caribbean once.

How can I tell European Eagle Owls and Great Horned Owls apart? They look very similar.

  • There is a confirmed sighting of a Snowy here in Tampa, but to see them this far south is extremly rare. The best way to tell the difference between Eagle Owls and Great Horned Owls are the eyes. Orange on the Eagle and yellow on the horned. The Eagle is larger as well.

  • SO AWESOME! I love raptors! :D

  • can all birds turn their heads 270 degrees or is it just owls?

  • All birds of prey can and most birds. Thanks for watching!
