Wow! I must find more of her performances. What I loved about this is that nothing sounded rushed, strained, mushed or shouty, which is a feat with.these kinds of runs and that tempo. Every note had a rich, full sound, making her performance sound effortless. Definitely the best I've heard.
Oddio O_O!!!!!11 fa delle variazioni fantastiche forse anche più belle di quelle della Genaux! incredibile peccato per la qualità della registrazione !!! E' eccezionale complimenti Anna!!!!!!
@Liszt31 This is the best version I have heard other than that of Vivica Genaux....her daCapo is also perhaps more inspired than Vivica's also (which is hard for me to admit: I love Vivica and think her work & mouth movements are tremendous)....I think Anna Bonitatibus has a deep feeling for the meaning of the piece....thanks for your comments Liszt31, and thanks Gudrun74 for posting....WOW
She is excellent! I have been listening to every version I can find of this song on Youtube and so far I like her ornamentation 2nd to Bartoli's. We must keep in mind that Bartoli has been doing it for YEARS!!! so it is ingrained in her soul! Brava Anna!
Me too, Crindoro, I find myself sighing, weeping, fainting ... Seriously, this and Anna's "Come Nembo" turned my life upside down. Even if I might have lost my head, I can objectively state that she writes here a style guidebook of baroque singing. Her da capo, her da capo!
I fully agree with you Gudrun! I think this performance is incredible beyond words, Anna is insolently gorgeous and gifted in all matters Baroque, to call her ideal for this music is both obvious and inadequate; she simply IS this music.
Absolutely, peres010492, A. Bonitatibus does sing the most stylish ornaments here. Who does not recognize this has no understanding of baroque singing. The final "naufragar" is already proof enough. Flowers for Anna.
@Gudrun74 Thanks Gudrun74 for posting this and even knowing about Anna...I was ignorant....I have listened to this version another hundred times now....She is the only singer that has anything on Vivica...her ornaments and the depth of her phrasing are ENORMOUS!!!.....She and Vivica both make Bartoli look like an amateur (please lovers of Bartoli;::;please help her...I do not think she understands how awful she sounds sometimes...it does not serve opera as a whole....Anna understands she serves)
This is the 3rd aria by this amazing singer that I have had the privilege of listening to and this is my favorite - this is the right tessitura for this singer. Wow, she has no CD? Come on, people in the recording industry, wake up, this needs to be recorded for all of us.
The BEST version of Agitata I know. Love it, love it. And it amazes me that it is a live recording!!!!! No studio effects and so on. Just... perfect lady for this aria
This is fabulous, thanks for posting Gudrun74. It might be my favourite clip on YT right now - perfection itself, both music and execution. And the other Vivaldi and Handel arias from this concert are equally fine. I had the good fortune of listening to Anna's Cherubino in October 2005 in Paris. I'm hoping for more opportunities in the future.
I "discovered" her two years ago as "Cherubino" at Theater an der Wien... Amazing. She is also a very fine Mozart singer, you can notice her way through the Baroque field.
WOW. I liked Bartoli's version and still do, but the effortless grace and speed with which Anna sings it are incredible! What a singer! I can't believe I never heard of her before! I think I might have a new favorite singer for Baroque music, if everything she does is like this (which I do not doubt!)
I'm terribly sorry that I cannot do anything about the sound quality here. I privately recorded it, I tried my very best ... there's NO NO NO offical recording or broadcast.
I don't know whether it's healthier to quit hoping for the miracle of a baroque solo CD of Anna B. Soon I'll get really desperate. She's now in her prime, better she can't get. There's no better.
This is amazing here in CH, how they decently do not announce the most fabulous events. I fell by pure accident about this festival on Nath Stutzmann's homepage who sang there as well (on Bonitatibus' or William Christie's it wasn't even mentioned). Never heard about Ernen before, tiny village with 555 inhabitants. Btw, my worst error was once not knowing Mingardo giving a Vivaldi concert where I live, you're not the only one.
... and tomorrow Invernizzi and Prina in a castle a bit west of Geneva (Dardagny). Had Invernizzi not started to have a homepage since recently, I would never have realized. But even checking 27 homepages per day is not a guarantee. As I said, THIS concert was not listed on Bonitatibus'. Well, she sang nothing but one of the most exciting Vivaldi arias in a rendition that is even praised by die-hard Bartoli fans ... but nevermind HAHA.
Brava! At least an original da capo ornementations! Bonnitatibus knows since a long this opera , cause she was singing Roberto in the first recording of Griselda in 1992 in montpellier with Solistes Moontpellier-Moscou. On the cd the da capo of Gabriella Morigi who sang costanza is very inventive too... very amazing for this time when vivaldi's operas was really an extreme rarity.. I am waiting for Vivica genaux's version she is always the Queen of surprising ornementations.
AMAZING!! I'm a great Bartoli fan, but I have no problem saying I simply loved this singer I had never heard of before, her da capo gave me goosebumps. Thank you so much for sharing this with us!
Alrick, I really like your words and couldn't agree more. For me as baroque fan, Bonitatibus is the most exciting discovery since Vivica Genaux. As to Cecilia, I highly appreciate her pioneer work in baroque, but ... as you say ... Anna's timbre *sigh*
I¨m sorry but Bartoli own this piece, I love this mezzo, but Bartoli´s coloraturas are something out this world, besides, Bartoli make a game with the dinamyc in this piece, her phrases are longer, well in my opinion there¨s no competition until now for Bartoli in this repertoire.
how can you say that someone owns a master piece, maybe the only one who owns this piece is vivaldi, and he is already death, music is a being itself, it cant be owned, as you cant be owned....and cecilia is great, but she isn't that great, decca is the great one that has made her famous... but she's a normal human being, many people can sing as well, or better, as she
please don¨t be so literal, when i say she owns it, it¨s because the phrasing and the way she does the Vivaldi coloratura, it¨s more amazing and interesting for me, than the one presented here, it´s a matter of taste, sorry if u don¨t like, it¨s your problem!!! Brava Ceci!!!!
Grande interprétation de cet air très difficile. Son interprétation est plus naturelle que celle de Cecilia même si je préfère l'interprétatiion de Cecilia.
What a superb singing! Very Joyce Didonato and a formidable rival to Bartoli and Cangemi. I feel ambivalent about her ornaments, though. I guess she had no choice but to try different options from the two above-mentioned, and I think they already took all the judicious and exciting ones. Anyway, I'm thinking she must well be an awesome Cleopatra.
Vitellia, the more I think about your proposal of Boni singing Cleopatra, the more I'm convinced she'd be AS WELL great there (if it's pitched low enough). Kozena has shown that it's possible to do both a fiery Sesto AND a monumental Cleopatra.
Most Cuzzoni parts are not necessarily all that high; in fact, there are surprisingly few notes above the staff, and if so, it's usually no higher than A. I came to think of Cleopatra as a low soprano/high mezzo after I listened to Tatyana Troyanos. Despite the lack of judicious Baroque style and practice (no da capo ornaments throughout the entire opera!!!), it was magnificent singing. And she also sang Cesare eventually!
You are very happy person, Gudrun....you could hear it live....we can only watch it and imagine how fantastic it was experience to see this beautiful (and also hard) aria .....
Sheer Perfection!! we need this on cd!!! music industry WAKE UP!!

- Anything by Vivaldi is in itself enough to make me pretty happy.
-A Vivaldi opera makes me very happy indeed.
- Griselda is particularly full of fabulousness.
-Anna by herself is enough to make me weak at the knees.
-Anna singing Vivaldi is already almost too much to bear.
-Anna singing the hell out of this aria: I sit, I sigh, I weep, I faint, I die.
