Are they the stock heads, (not the cams, not the valves)? Where did you get those sleeves? How many hours into the project are you? I'm pretty interested in this seeing as how this was pretty much what i had in mind for my next project :). Also when do you think you will have the car completed and road ready?
@thefonz686 The heads are not stock. they are custom ported by Xcceleration, with a big valve job and custom .445 SOHCs. The sleeves are custom made for Xcceleration. Have about 2yrs work into the R&D and building over the last 4+ years. Almost done. Need to upgrade the pulleys, one more time, to 8 groove, so I can run the AC and still have 25psi. She's running now with toothed pulleys. Then I can finish the rest of the car and be on the street. Done maybe next spring.
It's going into a 2000 RS coupe. The car is completely being upgraded to handle the power. You can see the buildup at the above link. There are many pages.
hi, we have not completed the new 8 groove pulley we need to drive the SC and the AC. when it's completed we will be able to put the engine in the car and complete the other mods.
@GarrettGiuffre Hi, the heads and cams are our own design. The heads have a big valve job for increase air volume, custom runners and porting to increase air velocity (unique to use) and custom .445 lift cams to get the air in and out. The supercharger is running 25psi now, up from 20psi. So, to make the power we are, we are using our custom heads and cams, along with everything else we have engineered ourselves. This engine just wants to GOOOOOO!
Hi, the engine has custom SOHC heads and cams. The Block is a custom built 2.5L NA Block, upgraded to handle high boost. Presently the engine is running 25psi. We are still waiting for the new 8 groove pulleys, so we can run the AC on the car and still prevent belt slippage.
HI, the pulley system is off a supercharged big block Chevy. the original 6 groove pulleys would not grab to allow the 25psi we're seeing from this engine. we then used this toothed pulley system. we are now making an 8 groove pulley, which we think will not slip, so we can run the A/C in the car. Let's hope it works.
my apologies, i was thought this was the ej20 engine, not the ej25. hats off to you sir and congratulations on the figures! would octane booster not aid the figures as in the uk, we have access to 99octane fuel from the pump allowing ignition to be advanced greatly. when ive completed mine i'll let you know of what ive achieved from mine. dyno booked for 26th ;-)
ianmobius1 - take a chill pill dude :-D . the engines differ greatly to the ones here in the uk which has been made clear by white25sc. the modifications he has done to this engine wouldnt run on an engine over here, it would simply destroy it lol.
is this a p*ss take or something? i take it youve fully stripped the engine down and rebuilt it with forged internals? 20psi on a 10:1 compression ratio engine, its gonna pop! im just finishing my supercharger conversion on mine and im hoping to get in the high 200bhp area running 8-10psi (safe pressure). 412bhp is dreaming if you think the bottom end, sohc heads and box will take it!
Hi, our parts list can be seen in the gallery of Xcceleration.
The engine is a custom EJ25 SOHC engine, using 9:1:1 CR tested on an engine dyno. We have our dyno sheet posted on Xcceleration too, showing our performance: 412hp, 332tq, 20psi, 93 Octane [pump gas]. We plan to finish fine tuning the engine shortly, after adding a new pulley. Still the original engine.
When it comes to a 4 cylinder even a boxer engine I would just stick with a turbo. Much more reliable power and also more power than a supercharger. But that is just my opinion.
Well yeah I understand and I am not saying this is dumb or anything in fact I quite like it I was just saying that I would prefer to stay with the turbo on my WRX.
We have had many guys ask about SC for their NAs for years. Our project was to show the max that could be done and then see what kits could be made for the guys.
Will this be made into a kit for the wrx? meaning, will i be able to soon purchase a supercharger kit for my wrx..
i know the Acceleration website, so i was assuming this was also going to be made into a kit so the average wrx sti racer and be able to change over to supercharger as well.
We just received the new pulley...that will allow the A/C to be used with the supercharger. I'm waiting for the intercooler to come back from the shop...made some mods and we'll finish tuning it. After the whole project is completed and the car is running, then we'll see what kits we can make from the project. So, until it's done we're not sure.
Thank you. We are still waiting for our custom pulley to come in from the heat treater. We completed the final cut a month ago, but with the holidays, it's been delayed. Once we get it in, we can test it and complete the final pulls for tuning....then it goes into the car and we can complete the car. Work in Progress!!!
2slofouru: comment: The a/c clutch appears to already have a pulley, which pulley are you making? Is this an updated video? Cool looking intake design, should be ultra quick response
white24sc: the pulley seen on the engine in the video is the old pulley and is being replaced by a larger pulley to drive teh A/C. It is almost finished and will be test fitted to the engine, then we can do final pulls for power. This will take about a month because of our work load and finishing the pulley.
Do you mean -smaller- pulley for the a/c? The crank pulley seems to be so small, but an a/c compressor doesn't need very many rpms to work in fact turning it too fast will have it clicking on and off a lot.
The pulley in question is the one on the supercharger itself. We needed to increase the size of it. We had also increased the size of the crankshaft pulley. We are test fitting the SC pulley next week and then make the final cuts and treat. When it gets back from the treater, we can then finish the tuning. We are also going to install a relay that will shut off the A/C when rpms reach 4,000 so it won't restrict power on hard acceleration.
We are waiting to put the engine back on the engine dyno, possibly this week. The SC is a Twin Screw, so it moves and compresses air, which is the best. Yes, 20psi for a SC is very high. For cooling we are using a water to air cooling system. In the Vid we are piping in cool water, which circulates into the water/air tmic. When the engine is back in the car, it will have a front mount heat exchanger [like a fmic] with a 45gpm water pump to circulate the water to the tmic for cooling.
We were looking to do something not done properly before to produce high hp. Also, we wanted torque to come on early and stay a long time. This engine should make 20psi starting at 2,000rpms and stay to redline. We just go the cams in and should be running the engine on the dyno again shortly. Then we'll post the numbers.
We are in the process of changing the cams to a hot .445 lift. The cams used for this video were too mild to get all the air out of the heads, so we made a custom set, just for this engine. We should have them in the engine shortly and have some specs, which I'll post.
The BHP is 412hp and 332tq. we are working on another pulley, which will allow our A/C to work, then will record another dyno run. The pulley will take a couple of weeks to complete.
The BHP is based on 20psi, using 93 octane fuel. We've setup the engine for street use, not race. On race fuel we would be able to make a lot more hp, but the car would not be streetable.

how is a supercharged subaru engine normal?? If a subaru engine has forced induction its USUALLY turbocharged. So ya, wierd.

I think it was sarcasm, dude. One guy claims weird, I find it amusing, personally, to say normal immediately after.
Pretty cool though.

how much power would that make? and where did you find that?

We are using SOHCs because they are simple, with less moving parts, the SC does not use high rpms and we can use a more aggressive cams the DOHC.
