All forms of entertainment are bad when not in moderation. If you can manage to play video games, study/work and do your duties at the same time, it's not a bad thing. Playing video games needs to stop when its interfering with your duties i.e. performing salah on time. The same goes for all forms of entertainment including watching/playing sports games, socialising with friends etcetera.
society is quite a bit more complex in 2012. we have working parents, with video games babysitting the kids. of course many single parents out there too. video games keep johnny busy while mom is working since dad is away or banned by court thanks to feminism. these boys are watching porn, playing some games, and being raised by facebook posts. what's better? a kid playing video games or going outside with friends engaging in risky behavior? nuclear family is dead in america.
I've played video games since I was 13 and I'm 22 now. Looking back it was all a waste of time and a way to escape reality. Men deal with their problems, not run away from them. Tv, music, sports and video games are all great But you shouldn't use them as a way to not deal with life. No one can say how old is too old to play. I think it's safe to say most people can say how much is too much though.
Honestly i'm pretty sure he's not saying that 100% of the people that play video games are immature, but it's true that many who play video games ARE immature, and being a gamer, it's obvious that this is true, and this affects their lives. Those who do nothing but play video games have nothing to talk about otherwise... not that its a bad thing on a social basis, but i'm just supporting an opinion. His talk was about grown men playing video games tho; I don't think its wrong for them to play.

Certain elements of gaming has been shown to stimulate the brain with mental benefits. I also never said its better then sport.

@5heeshi the view that any sort of basic entertainment equals immaturity does not make sense. going to the movies is also "immature" since that is what teenagers do, right? i guess an adult should be serious for his whole life starting in his late teens early 20s. if you take life to that extreme, you can't practice religion. everyone has some form of entertainment he or she likes. it should just be that and nothing more. not a passion or love. just some fun.
