  • this was made in the 80's...cool to the uploader..

  • I love that you are showing how they did soap in the old days :o) But for the future please use a scale to measure out the lye, oils, and water. Other wise everyone will think that soap can be measured in cups and not by weight as it should be. Great video though :o)

  • So i start watching singers, it gets me to sharks, which gets me to people cracking there head open, to popping pimples, to ring pop then to soap............

  • noo the 80's

  • fight club.

  • ohhh the 90s ...

  • she will be about 35 now

  • @PleaseGoAway1000 n making real soap

  • Red Devil lye is banned here in the U.S you should know that by now !!! D:/

  • that is discusting

  • If I ever make a movie (action-type movie preferably), the hero is going to say the last few lines from this video to the villain before he kills him.

    "Remember...

In order for something to become clean *dramatic pause*

Something else must become dirty. *BANG*"

  • i used to live in 1990 but then i took an arrow to the knee!!!

  • wat if ur a vegetarian?!? im not but still! gross!!!!!

  • Isnt most of the soap we use today made out of fat. I don't see why you idiots are complaining. You'll sick animal fat into you mouth and eat it but you wont rub it on your hands?

  • well i now have my science fair project

  • you guys, all that's left if just fat, nothing else. it isn't nasty. didn't you hear her say they removed the impurities? it doesn't smell bad either

  • november 198...fuuuuuu, the eighties? >.>

  • I am grossed out.

  • I love making soap. I use vanilla and lavendar to scent mine, but I'll use it plain if the emergency calls for it. lol

  • idk how you clean yo self wit dem nasty fat!

  • Ashes still work pretty well.

  • I really hate animal fat, particularly pig fat, can we use other veggie oils instead?

  • That is really interesting. I have never seen soap made with animal fat, heard of it. Thank you for sharing :)))

  • This should be a motivational video for how easy it is to make soap. After all, if this retarded bitch could do it in 1975; then anyone can do it!

  • Does it smell?

  • @BMeek4Christ No there is no smell other than the lavendar or orange or vanilla scented oils you put into it. It's not gross, I've done it. It turns out quite nicely.

  • Did anyone get the recipe? I really like it

  • You can post the recipe in the video description box. In your YouTube account, click on My Videos, then 'edit info' for this video. You'll see the description box.

  • Wow, great video and very detailed. I remember back in the day about lye soap. Things have change so much over the years. I appreciate this video so much, thanks! I would love to know if you are still making soap now. Thanks for a great video.

  • Without fat,you can't make soap.And eww,eww,eww,you guys are priceless.For 5,000 yrs,they been making soap out of animal fats.Now all of a sudden in the 2011's eww,nasty!yuk.wash with chicken?Are U idiots or just whiners?This gal gave a good discription of how old type soaps were made,as today too.Anf all U do is gripe,complain,and bitch.AS USUAL on u-tube.Y can't U all be nice,and if U don't like her vid,Y watch?Y B nasty 2 her?Be know-it-all's?Grow up and applaude her guts to do it.I loved it

  • @zolumpus You can make soap without ANIMAL fat. These days I'm sure a lot of people think of it as inhumane/unsustainable too.

  • ew thats gross i dont wanna use fat to make soap -.-

  • Great video. My great-aunt & Mom use to make this all the time when I was growing up. Loved it. None of the soap smell like whaterver grease was used either. This soap was the only kind of soap made back in the old, old days. It was called lye soap a person used it for laundry, bathing & the dishes. Our family used it for laundry & we miss it. We cook w/ very little fatty foods today, to save fat so cant make it any more. Hope you got an "A" & an updated video would be kinda cool, too.

  • @bdapril241983 1990

  • @bdapril241983 1990 (school science project)

  • @VSUKWizard I did NOT need to know that....

  • Thats freakin awesome!!

  • the yardstick of civilization

  • Who clean there hand with animal fat ewww just sayin

  • @prettygirl434

Ever look at what's in store bought "soap". Fancy Dove brand soap can't technically be labeled as soap because it's not. It's detergent with glycerine added, plus a gamut of other chemicals to enhance lather. With homemade soap, the saponification or the chemical reaction between the lye and fats, changes the chemical composition so it's no like you're slathering yourself in chicken fat when you wash up or anything

  • eww so now you need to clean your hands with the chicken you ate... grows... at the same time you need to wash the oils out of your hands with an chicke oil made soup... lol

  • I don't get why animal fat can be used as soap, but it's been done for hundreds of years, so I'm not doubting that it works.

  • That is nasty.

  • Well I guess she did something that most people cant do. So there. What are you jealous?

  • Now the Epic Meal TIme guys have something to do with all that BACON FAT

    Lol.

  • isn't lye used as a date rape chemical?

  • @Alicerox123456 hahaha, no. that frankly is a bunch of bullshit. believe me I'm a chemistry undergrad. I can certiantly tell you lye (sodium hydroxide) is not a date rape drug. It is however very corrosive, especially to the eyes and skin. Don't use sodium hydroxide with out proper safety protocol.

  • @Alicerox123456 roofinol is...

  • awesome!!! She got a suave bottle when suave was like 5 dollars at perry drugs or arbor drugs!!

  • no, she's more like 32

  • that is so gross and reminds me of Fight Club

  • This is a lovely vid, and tells us more than most of the newer vids.

  • Great

  • this is a great video i need to turn my volume up but cant so as i dont want to disturb anyone. i have a question Does the soap have a bacon smell to it? im just asking im not being mean by any means. so can you add maybe some kind of scented oil to it. i dont guess i have to use bacon greease can i use some other oil like veggie or olive?.

  • @brshelly123 No bacon smell. The lye changes the fat chemically. That's why you "wash" the fat several times before you add the lye to take out most of the impurities. The soap has a very nice, fresh "soapy" smell to it and when you make it, you can add different scents that you get at a perfume/oils shop.

  • smelling like bacon? lol yeah i need me a man like that!!

  • What a great video, better than playing PS3 or Wii--learn something more than a suggestive video game. So everythings not measured out, you can get a recipe and the science behind it anywhere. Very very good.

  • @nmbp1 Thanks - nice of you to say!

  • you know theres kds on here stupid

  • Actually, Egypt had soaps, hair tonics, mascara/eyeliner, and and perfume over 4000 years ago. So did China.

Egypt even had poisons that tasted like perfume--very useful as well. :)

  • Thanks! My grand mother used to make her own soap. Now I know how to :)

  • that is SO nasty.

  • @MicrowavedTofu It's just soap. What's nasty about soap?

  • This person obviously knows nothing about chemistry.

If you don't match appropriate amounts of lye and fat you will get a soap that is either too alkaline or too greasy.

You either must know the number of unsaturated bonds in a gram of fat which is only possible for a science lab or you must check the PH of the mixture.

But doing it like this .....

    I mean..... LOL.

That is why most domestic soaps suck.

Except in cases when they accidentally mix appropriate amounts of ingredients.

  • @ValarMorgoth Good for you. You've discovered the reason for 'recipes'. Which was used in the making of this soap.

  • @jmkyle And you haven't learned how to READ.

There is no "recipe" if you don't know what you are dealing with.

You are not using some standard fat, but anything you get your hands on.

Obviously, you got no idea what I have wrote because you don't know chemistry.

    Thus, your comment.

Thank you, you just proved my point.

  • @ValarMorgoth Triglycerides are the main constituents of vegetable oils and animal fats. They react with the lye and water to form soap. A recipe specifies the proportions and parameters for a mix and/or a chemical reaction. Being personally unable, as you state, to 'read', I will take it that your position, as a presumably very young and self-appointed chemist extraordinaire, is that our end product of soap was, merely, a freak accident. Really? Again, good for you!

  • @jmkyle Obviously, you can't read.

    OR !

You can't understand what you are reading.

    Here, my quote:

"If you don't match appropriate amounts of lye and fat you will get a soap that is either too alkaline or too greasy."

What more do I need to tell you so that you would understand this ?

If you knew chemistry this would be perfectly understandable to you.

There is a different number of unsaturated bonds in different oils and fats.

You can't use the same amount of lye for all of them.

  • Out of all the video's up here on youtube on this subject, this one was the only one that made clear sense. Thanks so much for posting!

  • Wow this was done a long time ago but could you post the recipe!! Very nicely done!!

  • holy shit 20 years old?

  • @TheRealTKillah hey, stupid theres kids on here dumb dumb.F.Y.I im a kid soooo, don't be an butt monkey stupid

  • @TheRealTKillah Yup. 21.

  • @TheRealTKillah more than that

  • *claps* very nicely done!

  • Guess they don't want to share. :(

  • @momzmoviez Would you still like it posted?

  • What a wonderful video!!!! Please post recipe!!!! I would love to try this!

    Thanks for posting :)

  • Bravo! I know its been a long time since the science fair, but i would love to get that recipe. thanks you for posting it!

  • @HvensFury I'm not sure where to post. The recipe is too many characters to post in this reply box. But I do have it if you'd like it.
