@GregTheCreator the blowtorches youd find from say home depot wont work (ive tried believe me) and the flame is too small heat enough of the glass up to really work it
esp using pyrex which is designed to be heat resistant
Hey im 17 and my brother is 21 and we want to get into glass blowing, can i get some help on finding a good beginner torch. Also where do you buy the glass from?
@Dakukobura Cost Isnt to high as far as materials go the equipment will cost a pretty penny or three if you sell your pipes to a headshop they generally pay according to the piece some bongs are worth 15 bucks some are worth 1,000s.
ive known a dude all my life whos a professional glass blower and he said once i finish my senior year of high school he'll take me under his wing and teach me and hire me at his glass shop
@joejumps4fun: I don't can tell "how much it is", is is like any other handicraft, go to school, them learn from some master and improve yourself, then you can buy your own equpment and start to make own products (and sell them of course).
@BonginTv Now that's what I'm talking about! But the question was out of curiosity as I have many hobbies and some I've given up because they were too expensive for myself to continue pursuing (skydiving). Now I know how this could pay one back, depending on what they make and what the market is in that person's networks...*cough* pipes *cough* haha! :)
@BonginTv Hey man. Could you teach me how to do this? I wanna make ACTUAL homemade glass bong's. Or if you can't teach me, do you know a school, or anybody who can?
@joejumps4fun I managed to get set up from scratch for roughly $2000. $2200 or so if I had gone with the better torch I was looking at. This includes a Paragon SC2 kiln at $600ish, and the Sundance #420 pipemakers kit for $420, and then I spent some on propane and oxygen (had to pay a deposit, and then I have to pay for the cylinder exchange) plus a new propane regulator. The rest I spent on other tools not included in the kit, and especially heavy-wall borosilicate tubing/rods of all sizes!
@anytingbu hmm, so tell me vhy the Pyrex glass tea kettle are about 1mm thick, why laboratory tubes are about the same? You does not know shit about glass types and their physical properties and chemical composition. We are using quality Pyrex tubes, no cheap china glass and as I demonstrate on other video, it can held some hard hits. You can have 10mm thick glass and when it fall on the floor it can shatter much easier, thanks to its weight.
Contrary to your belief, you do need thicker glass. Clearly a large customer base is being lost because of the lack of thicker glass products. That's just bad business.
@BonginTv I can understand that it is more expensive but couldn't just just raise the price of the pipe? I mean I would pay a little extra for a thicker glass bong like the ones you make. That way I know it wouldn't be broken just being handed over to a friend.
Well good thing no wholesale glass companies sell anything thicker than 9mm..Maybe there's a reason for that. perhaps to negate anything you just said. Dumbass... i have a piece 7mm thick PYREX dropped it the same way on the same surface as a 5mm beaker we have in the shop... The 7mm is still in use today. The 5mm is long gone....Have u ever used science glass in science settings?its very easy to break. just cuz u use pyrex glass doesnt mean u can sell people extremely thin shit
@anytingbu: Again i will repeat, it is not "extremely thin", it is 2.8 mm thick glass on 32 mm diameter tube, which is used to be enough for a bong of that size. We make bongs for more than 10years long, and we have many reasons to stay with that material. We are not China. We using quality glass and we know what we do. Please read something about Bohemian Glass history.
I told my girlfriend I was going to turn down getting my residency as a PA for glass blowing as a joke. I'd never seen her so disappointed. I probably would have if I had the hands for it.
I told my girlfriend I was going to turn down getting my residency as a PA for glass blowing as a joke. I'd never seen her so disapointed. I probably would have if I had the hands for it.
OK, for everyone again. We are useing glass that are thick enough for purpouse of making a bong. It is no glass as glass, we are using Pyrex and final product is hard enough and lightweight.
Exatcly on this one bong we don't have any messages that brake accidently.
So, why we should use thicker glass? There is no good reason except better looking on video and some additional weight.
awsome dude really want to get into the hobby/business where do u get your supplys like the gas then iv heard the torches are really the pricey part of the whole thing and another question does all glass need to be slow cooled in a forge. awsome bong
I don't think that percolators are factory made because I have apiece that is hand blown glass and it has two percs in it. on mine it looks like the the percs were made separate from the bong and put together while the bong was being blown
@ishthealaskan if your 15 and carry a bong around in a back pack yea a thicker one would be better. but there no need for thick glass usually if u drop em they break thick or thin...
@BonginTv ... I've been reading all the comments about glass thickness and I have to agree with everybody else. Just because there is a 1mm tea kettle doesn't mean your bongs dont need to be thicker. I want thicker bongs for a number of reasons: accidentally banging on the side of the sink, something else falling over onto it, appearance, weight (yes, I want a heavier bong). When you say "there is no reason to use thicker glass" you are stating your opinion, not a fact.
im just starting glass blowing and im really low on money whats a good suggestion for a cheap torch that will last in the long run im looking at a national 8M but wondering if theres better

@BonginTV i am going to start glass blowing soon and i was just wondering.. how do you get the glass on glass to be 14 or 18 mm every time. i was just wondering because that is one of the things i still dont know.
amazing skills... is it just bench cooled? or do you just let it cool then blow downstem hole? how thick is the initial glass? like 1 1/2 inch? again awesome work!
I bought two bongs from you guys a year ago and they are awesome. The crazy thing is that you guys are cheaper than most of the headshops....Even after shipping costs. I'm really interested in glass blowing as a serious hobby or job. If you know where I can find someone to be an apprentice to in Maryland, let me know!
Wow now I know why a good piece costs so damn much. You have given me a new respect for blowers I thought they were just assholes that over priced their shit but now I know it must cost a lot of money to keep torch running and it looks like it takes a lot of skill to make glass like that. Keep it up.
@jramos990 - You gotta remember, the mark up in price is from the actual stores. If you were lucky enough to know some blowers they'd tell you they sell their products for way cheaper than you see at the store.
@Chargeglass glass on glass female part is made and joined to the glass body after it cools slightly. I am going to include this part in some of the next clips...
