I wish I understood Korean. I’ve been tooling in my mind for a while now how humanure could fertilize and revitalize desertificated soils in former fertile areas. I’m sure a nation like China who is currently battling a losing battle against the desert could redirect their sewage towards the desert and make use of the billions of tons of poop produced annually to revitalize the dead soil. The trees they are air planting would certainly take hold then.
The pigs, umm, "consumed" the human waste gaining nutrients that our bodies do not process. In effect they became a human poop processor. In turn that manure was used as compost and they got food from the pig meat.
Now that's learning how to get every drop of productive energy out of all waste streams!
BTW - we keep the Jim Jenkins Humanure Handbook handy as "reading material" in our Humanure system - Thanks Jim!
Our oldest son married a wonderful young lady from Busan, South Korea. We went there for the wedding several years ago. While thee we traveled to many places in including JeJu Island. I wanted to learn how the traditional and modern Korean farmer did things.
On JeJu (sp?) Island there were "traditional villages" still around, more for tourists, that had Dau Dwedge (sp?) ("poop pig") stone walled pens with a raised seat that was used as the toilet.
