@drippinblood28 unless you dumped a substantial amount of money into your Jeep, you are dreaming. The Grand Cherokee with a 4.7 HO can't touch my T-Bird.
@KUjayhawk90 i got a 4.0 and its almost as fast as you're v8 t-bird. I get to 60 in the low 7's with a launch and you can get to 60 in the low 7's too! The 4.7 h.o. though will eat your t-bird. There are videos of the jeep v8 doing 0-60 in the low 6's (the v8 h.o. not the regular v8)
My uncle has a mustang at over 500hp for under 10 grand, that's not that bad and it's fast as shit. We don't watch for 0-60 more like 0-80 or 100 makes my t-bird look bad, but I also don't have 10 grand in it yet
96 tbird LX v8 for 2200 with 94k on it good deal??? I want something that gets good gas mileage and the tbird is low sleek and looks mean AND I WANT IT but i am trading in my 2000 3.9v6 dakota with 208k auto for it I need to know if the bird will get better gas mileage then that....Been told they can do like 28-32 mpg on highway but alotta people I do not have a lead foot most the time i never go about 2800-3100rpms during acceleration
these cars are alright. it was my first car. i was 16 when i got it. thought it was real fast. im 18 now and just bought a 2001 mustang gt. black with 5spd and leather....and drone masters
you know that mustang and the thunderbird have the same engine right? there is about a 40 hp difference but anyone that knows what there doing can fix that quick. i race my brothers 03 gt all the time and whoop his ass
like you said, anyone that knows what their doing can fix that quick. mustangs have the most performance parts over any car out there. its so easy to make then faster.
@airsoftg0d even if they do have the most performance parts (which is bs if you ask me) they're still slow as shit, you'd spend a shit load of cash to make a mustang fast and still get beat by a stock gto or wrx
there are more performance parts made specifically for mustangs out there then all other cars. theres mustangs running 10's easy. no stock gto or wrx does that. ive seen mustangs run in the 7's. just 10 was a random number
@QuickChick46v8power haha nice maybe u should have put a chip cold air intake and no cats exausts like me and ud be flying even faster its my first car as well i love it
i have a 97 tbird 3.8l v6 and if thats a v8 then something is wrong lol. my v6 can go 0-60 in about 7 seconds and blew away a 2005 mustang after we reached about 85-90. 197,000 miles perfect condition, engine, tranny rebuilt no mods
I have a hard time believing that... seeing as the 2005 stang V6's put out more HP than a Bird's stock V8. So unless you are Supercharged then no. Your Stock V6 didn't blow that stang away.
@FunktasticLucky yep the '05 stang does have more horsepower, but i'm thinking that you are forgetting something......oh yeah, torque! which isn't even close!! i have a friend with an '05 Mustang and i have raced him with my '95 T-Bird and i did pull away until i shifted into 3rd gear, then he gained on me.
@KUjayhawk90 you need to go through and read again. This comment was to someone who said his V6 (that's SIX or VI) BIRD blew a 2005 stang away. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoo... lets look at this a bit closer shall we? Tbird weighs in probably 3700 with driver and gas. V6 puts out 145HP @ 4000 RPM & 215 Ft Lbs @ 2750 RPM. Stang weights probably about 3500 with Driver and gas and it's engine is 210hp @ 5300 & 240 Ft Lbs @ 3500 rpm. So again I stand by my statement. unless supercharged his V6 didn't win.
yea the v8's have a faulty transmission. something about the tourqe converter and cause speed reduction and causes the car to "shiver" going into 4th gear. I have a limited edition v8 and its got that same problem. These cars will last forever!
i had a 96 t-bird it was my first car... it was in great condition i had talk my dad into giting it even thought he didn't like the idea of a 16 year old with a V8. i'd just sit in it at night before i got my license i loved that car. Then 2 days after i got my license i totaled it... i got a 97 couger with a V8 to replace it hahaha
lol im 20 now. but i remember when i was 15 my first car was a 91 mark VII with a 5.8L V8 that replaced the stock 5.0L. my dad wanted me to get that car when i looked at it, i originally wanted a 70 gran torino with a 427 cobra jet that was at the same lot. but it hadn't ran in 3 years the dealer said. still i wanted the gran torino lol.
haha yeah bro i just cut the mufflers off and put a length of pipe in place of em. it sounded pretty dece i was gunna cut out the cats toa nd put some thrush mufflers but then i traded it for an 82 f350 mud truck haha
The stock limiter on these cars is set to 105 because of the 2 piece driveshaft on the car. Much over 115 it tends to bend and bad things happen especially with it being over the gas tank. To remove the stock limiter you have to get a tune for the car. Either a Flash tuner or a chip. I recommend getting either a 93 Mark VIII 1 piece drive shaft or a custom one made before removing the limiter. Take it from a 300HP Tbird driver :)
If you're interested in speed, get the Mark VIII. 290hp baby. And yeah, I've driven a 96 4.6. It's woefully slow for a v8. One thing's for sure. you can load it down and it would still be about as fast (slow) as it ever was. do that to a 4 or 6 cylinder and you feel the weight almost immediately.
I had a 96 bird with a 4.6 -I loved it but even with off road true duals and filter no silencer, it handled great but was slow on the straights..not compared to everycar but i raced a newer chrysler (cirrus or stratus?) and wasnt pulling on it..The motors are badly underpowered..Should have had at least 300 HP stock but thats FORD for ya..and most ppl that bought them werent in it for speed anyway I guess...Few people have the $ to make them siick fast and those that do buy Cobras ;)
...while still not breaking the "thou shalt not be faster than the mustang" law.
The 5.4 on the other hand exacerbates any traction issues the current car already has (even the v6 had them! imagine that!) and requires a new hood due to the engines deck height. The hot rod in me would've wanted the 5.4! but alas, I am older (not by much) and desiring a more current big coupe. I'm thinking about going after the 5.7l GTOs. They're probably pretty cheap, and not particulary desired by most.
nope stock GS model...its a 1999...but if u think about it...its about right...the marquis has about ten more HP than a thunderbird...but wieghs just a tee bit more..still peaple underestimate crown victorias and grand marquis's...ill line up with anyone who wants to race..if i lose i can still chase u...:)
im not underestimating them. ive never drove one but i think the cops have them for a reason!! i actually want one instead of my tbird cuz it has a 6th seat. anything with a V8 and RWD is cool im my book
It does have that quality! I owned two of them in my life, an '89 and a '90. Both v6's. I had long dreamed of owning a 35th anniversary SC one day, but alas, time passes by, as does the opportunity to hop one up. There is however hope for 4.6l TBird owners disatisfied with their sohc v8. You can convert it to either the DOHC cobra of that year, or the 5.4l SOHC of the same year!
In comparison, the DOHC seems like a natural fit in an almost "why didn't Ford think of that" kind of way...
True, ending its productions was probably one of their dumber moves though. cummulatively speaking, as of 1997, the platform (MN12) was still selling more than 100k units a year. What they REALLY needed to do is go ahead and refine and reposition it against the BMW 3 series coupe. Back in 1990, Ford had said that they wanted to take it head to head with the BMW 3 series, but alas, they and their discount mentality never went all the way, and left it to languish.
ha fat chance. crown vics are slow as balls. i raced some kid that thought his interceptor was fast.. lol we went from a stop to about 70 and i had about 2 cars on him then we went from a roll and it was the same. (when my tbird was stock.)
@zo0yoRk69 meh i disagree. the interceptors are definitely quick for a big car, not super super fast but they put you back for sure, i have a 1995 cougar v8 and my buddy had an 01 interceptor and i'm confident that the vic would take my car.. but meh
no, lx model with the 4.6l v8 engine option. stock. sport models on the tbirds only have different supension and stuff otherwise there is no difference
yeah all stock..only cut off the rear mufflers and replaced them with straight pipe to give it some exhaust tone and removed the air box silencer thing (which also makes it quiet)
in my 97 ford bird, from 0-60 it took me bout 15 seconds. lol so about the same here. but mines a bit slower

@FunktasticLucky
Hp is not everything. There's a little thing called torque that V-6's just cannot match.
srouxd162 1 year ago
@srouxd162 210 HP SAE @ 5,300 rpm; 240 ft lb @ 3,500 rpm
It's got 40 less ft lbs of torque but weighs about 400 lbs lighter than a Tbird...
FunktasticLucky 1 year ago
@srouxd162 - My T-Bird has roughly 300 torque and I used to drive a v6 and I agree with this guy.
