@1997SAndrew Yes that is so - everything is going up in price! Go to thomann dot de, electronic drums, mesh heads.I believe they are about the £7.00 mark.
@stratocaster539 ahh thank you. Also i am thinking of doing exactly the same as you with my kit but why bother cutting them in half because if you dont you could still use them as acoustic if wanted just by replacing the heads?
@1997SAndrew True.It would be right to say that they are not top quality.Of course you could use any drum - quality of the shell is not critical. This is an old video, it's fine but I have come up with simpler mounting systems like the one in 'Piezo mounting conversion' check it out before you begin.
Thanks Stratocaster! I been inspired by your work and other stuff Ive seen on the net to make my own eDrums. I like the idea of mesh heads but I was wondering what you meant by "sweet tin drum". Ive seen versions that use Remo practice pads with a coffe tin lid underneith between foam. Anything like that?
Most "mesh head" designs use a cone shaped foam, I guess to minimize the contact surface. Do you have "hot spot" problems? (sensitivity way higher on or close to the foam)
In fact I think that a well damped 'L ' bracket with the piezo mounted on it would serve well.I have experimented with the 'sweet tin drum' and found it avoids the hot spot problem an gives the center of the skin extra bounce. Most 'add on' triggers work on the outer edge.
the only mesh heads i can find are alot more than £5! can you tell me where you got yours from? many thanks

do you have "hot spots" over your foam? You know...where it is really loud with a moderate strike.

Yes, a little. You can of course move the foam to the edge.

Nice work. :-)
Those toms look very similar to the toms I used for my DIY's.

will sticking the pads directly on the sensor mess it up?
GalacticHero2 3 years ago
GalacticHero2, no, not at all in fact good contact is very important to the whole process.
