The Russians came back strong and once they got a decent commander they soon learned, as the Germans found out in Stalingrad when it was their turn to get beaten. Finland was lucky Stalin was in so busy annihilating Germans that he decided to let Finland live, instead of crushing it.

The Finnish Army lacked pretty much everything from ammunition to guns. Model Cajander: A Rifle, A Belt and A Cockander - was more or less seriously used to describe the equipment issued to troops after the prime minister whose government had neglected the FDF in their budget.

Sure was Finland abit lucky in 1944-1945, but after all the Soviets were focusing 5%-10% of its army capacity on Finland alone, the peace was succesful thanks to the fast failing German defense on which they wanted to consentrate. Not like the Soviets didn't try to occupy Finland (google Battle of Tali-Ihantala in example)
