  • All well and good at 20mph. At that speed even a gopro would pick up your voice. Get on the (Freeway)

  • @bandit24seven I have used it at highway speed and it still works very well. Just have to tuck the mic into the helmet cheek pads.

  • @RC62 I tried it today but it did not work out. I think the voice recorder I have is not good for this type of thing. I am gonna sell it for probably around 70 dollars. What should I invest in from there.

  • @falconjgc Are you sure the problem isn't the mic? The noise cancelling feature may be the issue.

  • @falconjgc OK... I watched one of your vids. The mic sounds OK and so does the recorder. You need to poke the mic way back in the cheek pad. The whole mic needs to be pushed back far enough that the pad literally covers it. Almost back to your ear. Also, I am assuming you use a full face helmet. Keep the face shield closed when going over ~10 mph. I think you just need to keep testing until you get a good position for the mic.

  • I have a ws400s with an olympus me52 noise cancelling mic. I have absolutely terrible audio. I do not know what settings to use or anything. I get so much wind noise that you cannot even hear me. If you have any advice shoot me a message or something please. Thanks man.

  • @falconjgc Stick the mic in-between your cheek and the helmet cheek pad. That helps cut a lot of wind noise and it will still pick up your voice. On the recorder, turn off any automatic gain or noise filtering. I find it makes it worse. Last, make sure you set the gain (recording level) so that it never goes over "0". Ideally when talking the meters should only hit -6 to -4 db. If the level is a little low you can bump it up when you edit. if it is too high it will distort and be useless.

  • what's a good mic? I just bought the sony recorder (it was a bit cheaper than the ds 40 and seemed better) and plan to sync the audio with the video from my contour hd.

  • @montoyaohboya1 I have the Olympus ME-15 which is a mono mic ~$19 at Amazon and I have a Sony ECM-CS10 Stereo mic ~$30 from Amazon. Both are good mics. The Sony has a cloth covered wire which is stronger but also a bit stiff.

  • How come you can't hear your bike?

  • @adamatova With the mic stuck into the helmet the gain is set low so my voice does not clip it doesn't pickup much outside the helmet. I usually blend a little audio from the camera(s) to add wind and bike sounds but this vid was about the audio recorder so I didn't on this one.

  • @RC62 - Ah - ok I think I understand. Thanks for the info on this device - much obliged :)

  • does it has a rechargeable battery ?

  • @thehorrorheart It uses 2 AAA batteries. I use the rechargeable AAA batteries but you can also use regular alkaline too. The recorder does not recharge them btw...

  • anyone can tell me which product is better recording in a meeting room?

wat is the difren between Sony N olympus ?

  • @vral Sony and Olympus both make very good products. They both make a variety of models at different price points. The ICD-SX750 is designed to use in meeting rooms but I have not used it for that so I don't know how well it works. My advice would be to look them over on Amazon and read the specs and reviews to find one that is best for your needs.

  • Sounded good to me.

By the way, if you edit HD videos, what editor do you use and what is your system configuration? Whenever I try to edit an HD vid, to add music or voice recording, the editor has a hard time syncing the video with the music. I suspect that I either don't have enough RAM or the processor is too slow (for CODEC functions) or both.

  • @KeukaRyder I use Final Cut on a Mac. I have a pretty robust Mac pro system (Dual 3Ghz Quad core CPUs and 16GB ram) and full 1080 HD even gives it a bit of a hard time. I've been thinking of doing a vid on audio syncing and showing my workflow. What I do first, is convert my vid and audio all to a "lossless" format that the editor can handle. it creates huge files but the editor does not have to encode / re-encode as I make edits. That makes the editing and preview work much smoother.

  • @RC62 Interesting. I'd watch a vid of you doing audio synching. /:->

  • @KeukaRyder I will be posting a vid asking if folks want to see that as a topic (as soon as I can edit and post it). If at least a couple other people say they do, I'll create a video showing how I sync it all up. :^)

  • Of all the major manufacturers I think Sony seems to always put more quality into the audio part even if it's a video camera.

  • @suburbanryder Yeah, I've always liked Sony products. They seem to make good stuff. The Sony does PCM but is limited to 44.1Kz / 16bit. My Zoom H2 goes to 96k / 24bit which is overkill for vlogging. :^)

  • well sounds good , i dont know a lot about audio files. the trouble i have is finding something that works with mac our a good free converter.

  • @02wheels I'm using a Mac myself. PCM (WAV) files work great for audio. AIF is another uncompressed format that works too. Most stuff except for windows media (wma / wmv) works OK. The Windows media stuff will work too if you pay for a converter like Flip4Mac. I went nuts when i first got my Mac. It was a real pain in the butt finding formats that worked. Audacity is a great free audio editor / converter and works with a lot of formats. You may need to install LAME or other free codecs.

  • Nice little piece of hardware, Rob. Audio sounds really good.

  • @Wilks89 Thanks! It is taking a little adjustment to my setup and video workflow but I was happy with this first try with it.

  • ok buddy how do you add the voice to youre viedos i have a recorder but it s not pc appicable so i cant even put the audio on the pc my camra is a cannon im looking at maybe getting a new camra with an external audio jack for a mic ive got windows 7 opp sys and windows live movie maker

  • @kd4ysi Something I plan on doing, if there is interest, is showing how I sync up and add multiple audio and video sources. As for your, or anyone's specific setup, it is impossible for me to give specific advice. In general, you want to get your audio and video into a format that your editor can use. You need to re-encode the vid / audio or get a camera / recorder that works in the format the editor uses (or you need to use another editor). it is mostly trial and error.
