  • this is awesomeness man!

  • Bunch of white boys dont know shit.

  • at around 2-3 minutes where they are talking about time reversing due to expansion and contraction of space, it surprises me to hear that hawking would postulate this, as part of the second law of thermodynamics states that entropy never decreases in an isolated system. the laws of thermodynamics are background independent so this should hold from hyperspace to the universe. it also holds true in black holes (hawking radiation), which hawking himself put forth.

  • fuck the cat.

  • interesting things he saying and it can be a good for beginig of thinking bigger...I see that on many questions and dissbelives after he put an answer on this. Iam really sorry that he dont elaborate some of Nikola Tesla work because Tesla put many things easy for us to understand!

  • well, if there are multiple parallel universes, how come i "experience" only this one? or, to put it in another way, do i and the other "mes", who live in parallel universes simultaneously with this one, share the same consciousness?? aparently not. but what does connect me with parallel myselves??

  • @f4r0uq1988 mass

  • Nothing prevents time from going backwards? And this man is purported to be intelligent? Good god what a joke.

  • ahummm ahummm....NERD!

  • maybe because time does not exist as such, just one moment containing space & motion enabling objects within to change their positions thus the past is just a different configuration of the atoms.

  • @deanmullen10 good insight

  • i agree wiv you. along that thought, i think that time dont really exist, we humans made it up to aid ourselfs in many ways.

  • This is where the worlds new problems begin and end - instead of trying to prove something feasible and expand your horizons - children of today try to get into an insult war to represent their inadequacies.

  • but time doesnt exist in the 3rd dimension

  • lol can tell ur not the brightest star in the sky lmao

  • Oh man. Reading the comments, I think I found my peeps! You people have no idea what it's like living in Kentucky. When I try to explain to people around here that reality is nothing more than tiny vibrating strings, they look at me like my clothes just fell off. They think I'm insane.

  • Brain-gasm. Thank you so much.

  • A part of this is still newtonian bullshit, we experience time moving forward ONLY BECAUSE we are conscious observers. Conscious observers need a memory to work with. Having a memory requires ever increasing entropy. So simple. Time doesn't exist.

  • @Atlantean24 Where's your math supporting this claim?

  • @k0namiman in the book by DRGREEN he has the math in the book yes this means you have to read a book. I'veREAD the book

  • Damn Brian Greene is really smart

  • if you haven't read 'The Elegant Universe' and 'The Fabric of the Cosmos'.. highly recommended. i'm currently about 80 pages into 'Hyperspace' by Michio Kaku its an older book but nonetheless very intriguing.

  • mom ... I CANT possibly keep my room clean ... it has to do with quantum physics and the big bang. Sorry!

  • YES! A physicist that agrees with my viewpoint!

"The mixture of the cat being dead & alive goes away, that the cat is one or the other. Not both."

The uncertainty is just that. Uncertainty. It doesn't mean every possible state exists simultaneously, It means that any possible state could exist at a given moment.

The universe will keep chugging away whether we pay attention to it or not.

  • @L00NGB00W schrodinger is one crazy but brilliant motherfucker

  • @L00NGB00W plus the wave function breaks down when we check the cat , thus we know whether the cat is dead or alive

  • @Sockheadableful

    Yarr Matey! P)

I'd have to agree on both counts.

But I'd say that IF the cat died, it may have done so before we 'collapsed the waveform'.

  • What year was this?? Before the discovery of the expansion of the universe?

  • @LothairApoclyane lol no. the expansion of the universe was discovered by Edwin Hubble back in the gap. go read the books

  • i hope i'malive when scientists really have all of this figured out for sure. It would be really interesting to understand how god's mind works. i love shit like this. i wish more people got into this stuff so i could have conversations about and and learn from other amateurs.

  • Let's say that death is an illusion. That would mean that the cat is always alive though is would appear dead. Then what does that mean about the universe?

  • if disorder will only increase....then it seems the hope for "meaning" in the universe...at least on an individual level is utterly hopeless! Have we all been so arrogant that our arrogance has led us to our knowledge of the "fate" of everything, thus affecting the "human drive" to push forward? Why push forward if chaos is inevitable! The belief in a creator and Gods is what allowed us to drive to find the answers, unfortunatley the answer is that WE ARENT SPECIAL! kind of a bummer

  • Life is Magical. You can't understand this one with your mind. We have to go beyond.

  • ... And in another universe Rush Limbaugh is a noted Linguistics scholar and Noam Chomsky is a right wing lunatic! And the cat is both dead, alive, and having sex with Ann Coulter!

    Weird!

  • I'll never look at an egg the same ever again. O_O

  • Is that all physicists do is sit around and jack their dix?

  • @EV150 Wow very mature.

  • @EV150

... is Natural Selection on a smoke break or something? How the fuck did it miss YOU?!

  • half dead half alive cat = VAMPIRE KITTY

  • This conversation sounds like it's taken from his book "Physics of the impossible". Great book.

  • hehehe I liked the reference to the egg reflecting the primordial state and direction of the unverse... perhaps on some level of multiple universes a form of life is letting some universes(eggs) go through the embryonic state to produce chickens... the rest are just, well omlettes...

  • How could an orderly universe be the same thing as an orderly house? If the first is about enthropy, then the other must be aesthetic and ergonomic.

  • I have a question though. its really dumb sounding but if the big bang had imploded instead of exploded as in going in rather then out would time go backwards? or if you were to make the univers despand rather then expand would it reverse time?

  • The radio frequency is a good example, definitely a complex and confusing idea to grasp however..

  • This video gave my mummer a BJ! :P

  • Fucking noob

  • There are not Universes there is.................

Oh! Wow!... buy my book you'll know everything.

  • I can not even listen to this crap and why do we have to know what is not necessary to know and is impossible to know. Futher they go into "the woods", more crazy it gets, and actually still they still know nothing.

  • I dont see the problem with the uncertainty principle, since the problem lies in our ability to observate a particle, without effecting it, rather in the particle itself. Regarding schrödinger's cat: The cat is both "alive and dead" for us, since we cant tell either way, before observing.

  • This's gettin good.

Anyone have a roach clip ?

  • @cardhang You clearly subscribe to the "Big Bong Theory".

  • @cardhang ha ha my brotha put that roach out and smoke this new blunt wit me homie.

  • @cardhang

    nope...

    *hands you the bong*

    :)

  • i don't know much about this subject, but isn't it if you open the box you nullify the results? Just as when you take precise measurements of the system in quantum mechanics you alter the outcome of said system?

  • @l0okitzjk

You put an apple in teh box, then you open the box and the apple will still be there.

  • the double slit experiment...that one still blows my mind every time i think about it.

  • Always with the dead cats. Why do they do it? The double slit experiment is WAY better and it's actually something REAL people can "sink their teeth into"! Double Slit experiment definitively proves that observing the system collapses it into a definite state, whereas not observing the system allows it to exist simultaneously in multiple states. No conjecture or hearsay about whether other dimensions exist, just wave interference or no wave interference. That's science.

  • what kind of result? that it is the point, you can take precise measurements since you manipulate the system either way.

  • that cat? it depends on your perspective, from the cats position hes breathing, (hopefully) from a relative perspective it depends on how you look at it. taking quantum theory into account. and, if the cat doesn't have spiritual awareness, Could it be that you determine if its alive or dead when you open the box?

  • Some particles such as Tachyons move backwards in time....

  • a hypothetical particle.

  • @Ko252 Yeap.

  • on the question of multiple branches, I am of the opinion like Dr Greene that all of them co-existing simultaneously is hard to buy. I have found the theory of degradation as applied to realities with lower probabilities to be the most likely solution. Any thought of this? The universes farther down the bell curve would degrade much quick than those closer to the center, and the one with Felix the cat as president would go almost immediately...per se...

  • I found the time flow description very interesting. I just want to mention that I do belive that the univers has the capability to move back and foward in the time direcction, but as relative observers we are , we move along with it. If you breake an egg and it gets back together, you and the agg would be again in the same situation just before you broke it, and you wouldnt notice. No mater what, you coul not know yesterday more than you do today.

  • I fucking lold

  • You mean intolerance against people, or the "stupid redneck problem".

  • LOL@troll

  • the multiverse would be a mess to say the least. though with the added benefit that there would be a universe without right wing people and hick trucks and SUVs :)

it would become rather crowded though when all the left wing people moved there :)

but then again the spiritual is real and reality is far stranger than that

  • Question: What are the different Quantum States?

  • my solution is to have a camera in the box so you can observe the cat at ALL times!! (I know I like to cheat but it's better than NOT knowing!! plus like James T. I hate to lose!) Also one vote for the multi-verse!! Live long and Prosper

  • what if the cat was in a vacuum... but somehow the gun wasnt... or pressure is applied to an object in a vacuum so that it punctures the uranium... what physical state is the cat in?

  • I honestly doubt that's a reason to completely detest science.

    Science has already been proven.

    A "God" has not.

  • Dr. Kaku,

    The cat in the box...

Everything is in a magnetic field. Listening to a radio station is picking up a wave within the field, is a specific function. f of (x)

There are no parallel dimensions. A vector is its own entity. As time will still move, in the universal collapsing balloon.

My, "Principia Infinitus," can explain. It states that light can only exist, in three (3) dimensions, among other theories I offer for scientific peer review.

    Addsum,

    Ronin Kannushi.

  • so what determines which 'radio frequency' you tune into?

  • The receiver in your radio. :-) Not what you ment? oh well..

  • there is no time. there is only action and reaction in this moment.

  • the cat is alive in one universe and dead in another

  • in the end when he says that he feels uncomfortable with there being infinite universes is interesting because all those other infinite probabilities would be part of the overarching universe. so multiverse is a misnomer. so that dead cat exists in the same universe, just in a different part.

  • Yea , everyone listen to this guy. Dont listen to the greatest minds of our time....lets all believe what someone who claims that "life is Magic"

  • @derbigpr500 Make of physics what you will, but biological life on earth is quite "magical". In other words, it's so complicated and amazing, we don't know how everything works yet.

  • @derbigpr500 actually everything being said here is held as common belief amongst mainstream physicists

  • @derbigpr500 Michio Kaku is a world renowned physicist and IS one of the greatest minds of our time....You probably would have been a critic of Einstein in his time as well..

  • I wonder if they'll ever know, whose in the best selling show? "David Bowie" - Life on Mars. Lenin is on sale again. It is the Dawning of the age of Aqurius, 5th Dimension, split time, electromagnetic field given to you by comets, which gaymen, time travelling prophets if you will, came on, Fallen Angels

  • Can anyone answer what was before the big bang?

  • Before the big bang there was the quantom in an 11 dimension hyperspace. There was nothing, but even nothing is unstable, creatin bubles in hyper space which expanded at great speed and eventually created the big bang.

  • itonas13:How come nothing can be unstable? i'd imagine nothing being static not unstable;but please unlighten me on what you mean by:bubble which i take you see created out of nothingness?

  • Because when you say nothing your are talikg about the quantom, which in essence is nothing, like dark matter, or dark energy, which does not exist phisicly, but is there, it actually makes up over 73% of our universe, nothing that is. So just because we can;t see it in our three dimensions and to us is nothing there is something there. And bubbles are in fack mini universes forming out of the 11 dimensional hyperspace that would take too long to explain what it is, for its a higher dimension

  • i think we're having a wording issue: when you say: quantum is nothing you mean to say it's a theory therefore not tangible, right? also dark matter/dark energy that doesnt exist physically but is there you mean to say we know it exist but we can't see or prove it cause it's invisible, right? so it does exist.

  • Scientists wonder about your question..so if anything comes to your mind please let everyone know

  • fristy321 here is a link to check that would somehow envelope your question:Unexplained Mysteries Clip 3 - Before Big Bang

  • Before Big Bang there was eterntity. And after Big Bang there is eternity. Nothing can come from nothing and a bubble in 11th dimension is also something. Right?

But acording to leading scientist Big Bang started in a "singularity". Can be described best as "is/is not" at the same time. And in this singularity nothing exist but it can anyway creat moon stars and sun. So to me it is not "nothing" they mean when they say "nothing"

But it is possible that "time" started with the Big Bang

  • Everything about these sciences are supernatural...

  • allright i agree but then what is behind the supernatural?God? what was the making/maker of everything that is supernatural? if God then how was God made into being a creator of everything? what energy if that's what god can be described as..then what energy could have created energy? Big explosions don't just happen to create life out of nothing beforehand right?

  • what created the beginning? there had to be something before the beginning to create the big bang...what was the before big bang? and, then before the before? was there quantum physics then? when was quantum physics created and what made it into existence? could it be thinking energy -where thoughts are energy that exist as matter in motion such as the momentum that is the primary quality of quantum physiques?

  • That is why ghost or beings from different parallel universes exist! They exist at a different frequency, or a universe, that is parallel to ours and when our frequency interferes with theirs and vice versa we see ghost!

  • No, you cannot prove supernatural beings via an assertions. I am asserting your statement is a fallacy. :-)

  • Hey, but theres a possibility that frequencies can interfere with ours, that is if the theory is plausible...lol

  • No because the magic flying spaghetti monster killed them

  • Meatballs were found at the scene...

  • yep, i wish you'd keep going in what you were saying...i like the way you bring ideas without imposing views.

  • i read that recently in books on hypnosis and regression through hypnosis..

Do you wonder what makes universes being parallel i mean what purpose and what kind of energy would be served by theses means? iunderstanding that it would explain quantum.

  • You have to remember earlier atheist or naturalist thought that the universe was infinite. And you want to know if god had a creator, it's no. The Big Bang is a belief and God is a belief. Which one is more possible, something that has to go through numerous changes through impossible chance.

For instance Chemical evolution, which any reasonable person will admit that Chemical evolution is 100% impossible. Or something intelligent made it, which we see because of the complexity and design.

  • i don't believe in atheists views as they're too narrow minded i believe in ALL religions being closer to the truth of life&its meaning. The Big Bang is not a belief to me and the numerous changes through the impossible obvioulsy are not impossible as they DID happen. Yet,I agree on one of your points: that intelligent beings may have made these complexities. Now, i wonder how these beings have been created and by who/what and why?

  • yep in fact i read that in a book recently it makes sense too. now how come we have parallel universes? for what purpose? who and/or what is the original creator?

  • uhhhmm...because of science. To satisfy everything that is unbalanced. We are the original creators..we caused that big bang..and thats why we are in, a state of limbo..running around in circles...ha..lol

  • All right if i follow you:we are the creators we created earth and the universe through our power of mind-energy-making where earth is our ground to learn in physical action to show whether we can put into action what our soul is made of.?;with pass or fail and so reincarnation would be the testing for the failed lessons,we perfect ourselves through these experiences.Running around because we are stuck in this physical reincarnating circle?.is that what you meant?

  • at 3:52 its not heisenberger but hesienberg. man i always wanted to correct a physisit hahahah. maks you feel so smart ;)

  • Sorry Antillektuell, I have to correct you, his name was Heisenberg, Werner Hei-

    senberg to be precisly.

  • oops. yep youre right!!!

  • Dude he said ... "heisenberg a physicist"

  • what a conscious mind Im in a an idiot in comparison, he breaks down the equations with basic language love this post thanks for the upload

  • There is no "2"...

  • are you trying to make me stupid. look go back to 1st gread and re learn 1+1 ok because its 2.

  • why can't that proverbial cat be just in one state in any one environment or universe where it is and then be in a different state in another environment or parallel universe instead of being either or, and or, maybe not, or both in one universe or environment at anyone time. where would be the uncertainty in that?

  • Exactly. I believe that it is, but because we currently have no means to measure which universe the proverbial cat resides in, it does exist in both, or any, state for us. //dan

  • strings can go past other strings

the reason one can get hit with a bullet, is because of the "graviton".

  • I think the proverbial cat "loses" it's fourth dimensional feature when we assume it's dead. The third dimension still exists though. Now where does the fourth "go"?

e/c^2=m c^2 c=speed of light, instead of assuming time travels only forward, but instead the fourth dimension being a component of oscillation of energy strings, then this fourth dimensional feature the cat "loses", is not really lost.

  • would the fourth go into the past?(i mean parallel past).Assume time travels back and forth it would explain we can travel time under hypnosis state and do regression visits to the past, then do progression visits to the future;that would make time being past present future at the same time.I read in a book:"imagine you're in an helicopter, you look at a road below: what was traveled is past, where you are is present, where you go is future. The helicopter's view being God's view on earth liffe."

  • Order and disorder are all qualities of the biological perceptions. We cant perceive any other states because we have no memory or experiance of them. To think that mathematics can answer such questions in my opinion is rediculous. Maths is for counting recording, trying to create some thing with maths is desparate.

  • I'm uncertain too.

  • I completely agree with dorbu.

I am a physicist myself, unfortunately on the field of string theory, but it is true: Theories are always there before the experiments, and the experiments either prove or disprove the theories, but only many years or decades after those theories were created!

With the LHC we might be actually able to prove the existence of extra dimensions, which would be a big proof for string theories.

  • I meant unfortunately NOT on the field of string theory :)

  • Well, not only does my brain hurt, but that dead cat analogy is really horrible. T_T

  • Interresting XCEQZ2Ex

  • could it be possible that no matte what dimention you look at, there no such things as backwards ? ...as in if your x,y,z position changes as you walk up and down stairs, that t is always going up, as is 5th, and 6th

    1,2,3,1....

    2,4,6,2....

    4,5,6,3....

  • Also its funny if you listen Brian Greene keeps trying to tell Kaku that there is no proof for this stuff while Kaku just keeps going on and on about "but this guy on my show said this and that" lol he just wants to sell his bullshit books

  • Negative? How is it negative or positive ? Kaku speaks of these things like we have some data on them when we don't its just bs and until we do he shouldn't make it sound like we do.

  • I mean its just like saying I have magical creatures under my bed, it might sound cool and interesting but without any proof its just a bullshit claim. I think a lot of these physicists like just trying to sell their books to the layman who knows dick all about science by making all these cool and interesting claims. If they find some proof for extra dimensions and parallel universes in the LHC then we can explore that but till then don't make it sound as if we have proof.

  • Multiuniverse is complete and utter bullshit, absolute crap no proof at all, show me some fucking proof and I will buy it, I think there is a much more simpler explanation than just adding infinite universes, it would be cool but its utter bs to speak of it as true as Kaku does with his books, tv, and on documentaries, it just sounds childish.

  • Deep down inside you probably want it to be true. But due to your negativity, you believe that anything that sounds too good to be true can't be true.

  • I think Kaku takes things a little too far in terms of trying to make stuff sound like a hollywood movie ie the whole universes in your living room, where as the other guys is like hold on thats bullshit which it is, speculative bullshit.

  • 9:15 Its call free will. lol

  • I dissagree, we(as an intellegent species)have the power to control entropy, already have developed partialy closed systems that preserve a great deal(about slightly above 40% balance)of stable energy transfer across that system.

  • really enjoying this series.

  • so is the cat dead or alive?

  • it depends on which interparation of qm you believe, string theory fall into the manyworlds camp.

  • Even though the string theory is moving towards concepts that not even science fiction has explored, it does create a good unified theory. Think about it, we once believed the earth was flat and at the center of the universe. We were forcing science into a neat and easily understandable box. Now that science is branching off in a direction that's hard to even imagine makes it more probable to me. It removes the human element and follows the math.

  • Just in case any wants to know I personally have entered the multi dimensional world through frequency... hit me up if you would like my story.

  • Yo!

Diz iz sum iterestin' shit. My pimp-ass be all fascinated 'n' shit.

Greene's string feory fashizzo be all kickin' my brain'z ass 'n'shit.

Homie's intellygents be whooping dat trick, wuh!

    His game iz tight.

  • for realz y0...it be spurrin thoughts i aint used to

  • lol!

  • word...

  • truth is it will be another 5000 years until humans hava a basic understanding of the universe... religion, proof that we are still not evolved, same with race. balck, white, etc... proof we havent breeded to 1 species, we are hardley out of the soop yet

  • Yeah, I guess humans are just valueless "species". Do you honestly think that? What if religion is around in 8000 years? Does that mean we havent evolved? If we are just here there is NO point in even getting into the future. That entire comment is just nihilistic crap.

  • how come you call truth what is none but your assumption? i mean you can bring ideas but if you want your "truth" to be regarded as such why don't you bring tangible proof of your truth you just give an opinion personal to you and make it look likeYOU out of anyone else knows the truth. Your belief on evolution seems to have leaked from your belief on truth. Please make sense next time around.

  • This discussion opens more questions: Occam's razor is implying simplicity in nature totally contradicted by this approach. Either this is true, o0r Occam's razor is true. But to explain everything by adding an infinity of universes...that is a problem.

  • Occam's razor is not a law of physics...It's merely a metaphore; a clever semantic trincket.

  • In fact Occam razor is more a criteria. Something that has always worked.

  • Occam's razor does NOT always work.

  • I want to find out if Occam's razors work for me. Where can I buy them razors?
