  • That was special, Alfred the Great staring down at me, it would send a chill up my spine

  • Well done lads and lases. I passed out in Winchester in 1989 it was the Light Division Depot then i was RGJ. It was a great parade. The UK supports you all 100%....

  • Why Irish pipers?

  • @strathpipe why not

  • @strathpipe well they are briitsh, ( NI)

  • Ihave to say, Lunarlaserranging, that I feel you must have led a sad life if you do not see heroes on the planet! If people don't have other people they can look up to, and aspire to be like in some way (and I'm not talking military here), no-one would ever achieve anything! The world is getting fuller of people who watch stuff, listen to stuff, but have lost any capacity to DO anything to change the world!

  • these men deserve your respect founded and unfounded, reason is they have made a commitment to you people, to protect you and your way of life, they have prommised to take the bullet so you dont have to. you owe them your respect, if you think otherwise then you are not brittish and should leave our island.

  • thats you're opinion. but thats all it is. It's an opinion and that doesn't mean you are right. Other people have differences of opinion. If you only think you're opinion is right then thats not very smart. I don't agree with what ur saying and it isnt making sense. nobody is a hero and there isn't such thing. You obviously have a different perception to each person. you need to realize everybody has a different perception and view on life. If thats the way you wanna play t

  • its not our island. How can you say somebody who has difference of opinion is not british. I don't think any human being is a hero on this planet.

  • i was a soldier once and i know exactly why i joined. and it has nothing to do with what the goverment wants, its allabout playing my part in the preservation of my famillies way of life.. i was in the army so people like you could have their free spoken appinion without fear. my fammily and friends labaled me a heroe, not because of what i did or the risks i took but because of what i stood for. the army is not a bunch of mindless gun slingers, they are normal people like you and i.

  • have you ever served in the armed forces ?? do you fully understand what their job is and role is in the world today. do you understand the risks they are takeing. when they sign on that dotted line and take the queens shilling there is no turning back, from that momment on you are told what to do, you cannot refuse to do it and you must do it. these men and women know this when they join, they know they could be blown up or shot at any time just for being what they are.

  • this isnt oppinion either, oppinions dont even come into it, this is facts. they are the nations heroes wether you would choose to judge them or not. if your brittish then you owe them your gratitude and support at the bery least. they do what you will not do so that you may walk free and without fear while on this little island, they die so you dont have to. that makes them heroes. (not an opinion but a well known fact among respectful people)

  • frankly i am not going to judge these people as i have no idea what they have been upto good or bad. Nobody in public is able to class them as heroes as nothing they do is ever made public. i don't understand how they can judge sombody as heroes when they no nothing of what they have been doing. it seems the publci just go down with whatever goes down. seeing as they don't publicise anythign they do over there then we cannot make any kind of judgement on them. they are toal strangers

  • just signing on that dotted line on enlistment makes them heroes, they are telling the brittish people they are willing to give their lives so that the brittish public may live their lives.

you dont need media or publications on what they do, all you need to know is that they are willing and able to do it.

these are normal people like you and i, the diffrence is they have the balls to go out their and do that job.

  • We should blame politicians if we don't think our Servicemen and women should be on active service. There is no doubt the British Services (owing their duty to Queen and country, not to grubby politicians), are the finest in the world, with no exception, and they deserve thanks for doing their job so well.

  • well yes they are probably over their for the wrong reasons, but you have to think about if they didnt go who would have suffered the next terrorist attacks. our poloticians are selfish greedy fools and have only their interests and jobs in mind. they dont care much at all for the troops that fight, this is shown in the cutbacks and increasing pressures on our armed forces and extra work loads and duty.

what we need is a goverment that cares about its actions.

  • and just so you dont think im thinking solely about vrittish servicemen/women.. this stands for all countries servicmen, they take the risks so normal folk do not have to.

most servicemen/women that join the armed forces join because its a job and career, they join for a wage, some join because their is nothing left for them to do. but they all understand the implications of the service upon enlistment and what might happen.

you have to be a brave man/women to agree to those terms.

  • child runs at you with explosives attatched. if you do not kill him he/she will kill you and all of your fellow soldier buddies/plt.

yes they killed children. They wouldn't be alive if not. It's not the soldiers who caused the problem. its the evil insurgans/terrorists brain washing/forcing innocent children into running at troops with explosives. or tricking them into walking with wheel barrows towards them.

  • I was there and although I was very proud of the boys I was a little dismayed by how many soldiers were farting as they marched. I wonder what they had for lunch.

  • So that's all you could think of, was it then?

  • Im not british but i saw some video in the news not to long ago of a crowd of protesters calling returning troops child killers and had a bunch of sighns saying shit like that. People like that diserve to die. There fucking troops not the goverment who made them go to war. They sighn a contract to make money and thats how they get cash to live off. Yet people act like they wanna go kill people.

  • I was there & makes you so proud to be British Well done Girls & Guys

  • Well Done

  • I marched through winchester as a royal hampshire soldier in 1988, very proud day for me ..

  • its a pity for one reason, 2nd battilion of the Princess of waes's roya regtiment (ROYAI HAMPSHIRES) has been serving constanty for the ast 6 years , doing spearhead , iraq , gibrater , northern ireland (30 months) afghanistan , why cant we march through our hometown and maybe get a chance of going home

  • Agreed. Come on, you other cities and counties, and follow suit!

  • thats the first time i have seen this. well done guys, getting the recognition you deserve.
