I moved up to Newcastle for university and they are the nicest group of people I've seen. As you can see just from this video, the city itself is also beautiful.
What an amazing structure, very eye-cathing indeed. I would like to visit Newcastle one day and hopefully it's not too... rough as Geordies sometimes are percieved. They should build something of the like here in Oxford.
@MikeyAceH I've lived all over the UK and Europe, and find all places have good and bad people. I lived in London for a while and still im amazed how rude and horrible most people are. Get on the Metro in Newcastle and then compare people against people on the Tube in London. I've seen people help older generations on and off the metro, can you imagine that in London?
Newcastle is also outstanding for food and rink, with some of the best bars and nightclubs in the UK.
@jbs4em well i certainly don't think that's fair. I've made two clear statements that communicate what i wanted to communicate very well. I could easily argue that you have a skewed idea of what sort of people are likeable.
@MikeyAceH Your clarity was never in question, just your manner. Needlessly insulting the local people of an area on a niceley made timelapse video of a bridge? Comment on the video and leave the unrelated personal insults to somewhere more relevant otherwise accept that you're just flaunting your hypocrisy.
@MikeyAceH Re-read my sentence, you've obviously completely failed at grasping the importance of the word 'otherwise'. Leave it here, as this has finally gone flying even further off topic and there is no need to keep disrupting this guy's comments box. Once again, thumbs up for the well made timelapse video.
If you send me an email through my quick time virtual reality website in the description, i will get a water marked version of the movie to you, which you can use.
I was in the pitcher and piano the other week for a wedding reception with my lady sat on the veranda all evening watching the bridge and all the people. Amazing.
Nope, the bridge pivots on massive bearings on both sides and on each side just under the pivots are HUGE hydraulic rams that push the bridge over and pull it back. They are very exposed and you can see them working. You wouldn't want to get your toe trapped in one!! :)
Do you know then, where most of the weight is distributed? Also, is it connected, or held by the side, or does it have a support system that is under the water?
Well some of the weight is cantilevered by the top part of the bridge as it tilts over, but the rest is powered by the rams. Nothing is underwater and it is a very simple movement.
You're joking! That has to be an immense amount of weight for the sides to be holding. Does the bridge have rebar for reinforcement? I can't imagine the strain!
did you have the change the shutter speed to make the glow on the sky. or does it look like that? I know very little about still photography. I love editing videos though,
Thats right, getting from the baltic car park, to the pubs... best way to park in newcastle as you also get straight back out of the city and dont get stuck in the traffic :oD
mmmm pues si eso fue lo que dije.... me parece supèr asombroso este puente, esperemos ver mas cosas bien planeadas y q demuestren la capacidad del ser humano para hacer cosas buenas

@MikeyAceH I'm not from Newcastle but somebody who communicates the way you do obviously has a skewed idea of what sort of people are likeable.
Thumbs up for the video by the way, the bridge looks fantastic.

Does anyone know the mechanism whereby this bridge works? Is it a cantilever-type?

I live just up the road from the bridge. It doesn't open often, but when it does, it always gathers a crowd. probably waiting to get across. lol
