  • rest in peace rick martin

  • @lai71690 That is sad.

  • i'm a hawks fan-and my second favorite team are the sabres. You guys have a wonderful franchise-back in the 90s we had old man Wirtz owning the hawks who, at the last game at the chicago stadium, just played a video and said THATS IT. What an awesome way to say goodbye! lets go buffalo!

  • then they go to marine mindland arena, then HSBC arena, and now...First Niagra center

  • @Hockyzmydrug First Niagara = HSBC = Marine Midland But we Know that

  • Give a Thumbs UP if The LAST Horn Going Off in the Aud made You Tear UP

  • Wow, that "LET'S GO BUFF-A-LO!" chant at the end was LOUD! Never heard a chant in any other arena that loud before.

  • @cavalrytm The Sabres Fans Know How To ROCK THE Arena

  • shoulda kept the aud standing and put an OHL team there....nowadays that would be a sick rivalry with Erie, Niagara, and the GTA teams (Barrie, Brampton, Mississauga)

  • R.I.P. old friend.

  • i was there in the lower golds...2 rows up.....still have my ticket stub!

  • Still give me chills............Thanks.

  • wow, what a way to end it!

  • the only one missing is Gil

  • If there is any franchise that deserves a cup it is Buffalo !!

  • I have Many memories of the Famed Aud from the Sabres to The Braves to The Bandits and The Concerts. THATS RIGHT FANS> LETS GO BUFFALO

  • if they only knew what would become of this beautiful building .. torn down for nothing for probass to change thier minds it isnt right so many memoires gone for nothing

  • "There goes the horn for the final time. And there go the lights." - Rick Jeanneret

  • The FANS say it ALL LETS GO BUFFALO

  • why was Mike Wilson a part of this ceremony ? lmao

  • @buffaloborn71 why indeed

Patty and May Day, though? Perfect!

  • @buffaloborn71 If i remember correctly Mike Wilson was a highly touted player/prospect , and he was supposed to be the future of the Sabres .

  • I miss LaFontaine, he's my all time favorite hockey player, I grew up watching him with the Islanders.

  • i made it there in november 1988 and march 1991....still have the program from both games...

  • Where was Perreault?

  • It's sad I'm 31 years old & lived here for 29,AND HAVE NEVER BEEN IN THE AUD FOR ANYTHING.Even sadder is the fact that there's nothing left except a Huge Hole in the ground.Last winter was heartbreaking, seeing that rink shaped hole filled in with ice...I really wish I could have been there, just once.

  • sounds like a freaking cartoon

  • @LedZepp1193 You're right! It is from the ballet music called "Gayane" by Aram Khachaturian.

  • This brings tears to my eyes every single time I watch this.

We Sabres fans are a unique breed, we never give up, we never give in, we have fans that are willing to do anything to get this team to the promise land.

You can keep knocking us down, but we'll keep getting back up!

    Sabres For Life.

  • Outside of the 99 finals, this has GOT to be the BEST Let's Go Buf-fa-lo chant EVER.

    Go Sabres

    Go Penguins

    Go Stars

    Go Blues

    Go Wild

    And when they come back

    GO JETS GO!

  • Many thanks for this tribute to one of the grand old buildings of hockey. Buffalo seemed born to have an pro hockey team, and any true fan of the NHL has a place in his or her heart for the Sabres. They've been doing very well the past few years, and I think, under present leadership, it won't be long before the Sabres have their names etched on the Stanley Cup.

  • Does anybody know the song on the end, please? I know, it's maybe 5 seconds, but it sounds great :)

  • @qba4499 i think its actually called the sabre dance but idk for sure thats what it is on my ipod from limewire. you can probably find that somewhere if u search it

  • great way to end the era of the aud..

  • Awesome.

  • clownsong!

  • fuckin bass pro shops

  • Nice music stay classy Buffalo.

  • the sabres organization couldnt of thought of a better way to end one of the biggest parts of sabres history

  • I miss the Aud :tears:

  • i mean it sucks the aud is gone but this is one of my favorit hockey memories... they went out with such class

  • RIP Aud!

  • I was at this game. I remember I was one of the few people to leave right at the buzzer, concluding the game, because I was concerned since this happened on a Sunday night, after having two weeks off for Easter, and I had school the next day. My parents had a 45 minute drive to Lockport and I wanted to get home soon. I missed all the festivities.

  • holy shit dude i'm also from lockport

  • the music just degrades them all

  • Lafontaine, what class! Waving to the crowd before the final horn. Nicely done!

  • Pete Weber, "There goes the horn for the final time....and there go the lights."

  • circus music

  • i was at that last game at the aud i am a big sabres fan just hearing the final buzzer sound brought tears down my face and seeing it get destroyed is just like remembering our solderiers on remembrance day

  • wow loved it as a die hard sabres fan i will miss this place deaply and now its gone i have a shot of what it looks like in my vid Buffalo old now new

  • Wow. My first ever hockey game was in the Aud.

Bruins fan for life, but those couple years I lived in Buffalo were great.

    La-la-la-la-la-lafontaine!

Seriously though, thanks. Seeing all of this was really cool.

  • the old guys still have moves lol

  • Oh yeah the caps where just great for last 10 years, not just the last year and a half eh. I love when a team has a bad year and all the 10 year olds say it is because they are "heartless". Get out of Buffalo if you wana be a caps fan. Lets go BUFFALO.

  • Man, everytime i watch the ending of this it makes my spine tingle.after that final goal horn goes off, i feel like the era has ended. kinda hard to explain

  • Same here. And I am not a Sabres fan. But, I went to the Aud many times as a kid with my dad, and I can remember how loud it could get. To this day, it's still the loudest arena I have ever been in!

  • Awesome goal horn they had there too.. LOUD!!!!!!!

  • Who was wearing number 34 during final skate? Thank you...

  • Mike Wilson

  • Thanks..

  • lets go buffalo

  • I'm a die hard Sabres Fan and the Aud was the place where I fell in love with hockey and has alot of memories in it like the May Day goal but it is old and has seen its call of duty

  • ok im 10 so i would love to see the sabres win the cup. the cool part is the chant lets go buffalo

  • yeah i got shivers when the crowd started chanting

  • gilbert perrault??? he was retired at the time!!

  • @corvettefan96 yeah he retired way back in 86

  • Aud-ios, amigo. The future site of a Bass Pro Shop (to be completed some time around 2064)

  • LETS GO BUFFALO!

  • Where was Gilbert Perreault???

  • IDK. Rob Ray mentioned him being in the locker room at the Winter Classic.

  • i wish they did this to the chicago stadium

  • 100% class - Buffalo may not have the same amount of tradition and history as other franchises, but this is an example of how "homes" should be closed out. I'm a Rangers fan but give full respect where it's deserved. The Aud will be always be in memories. Lets' Go Rangers anyone???

  • well said

  • As a Sens fan I'll admit this is a historic place but if you started comparing it with the likes of the Montreal Forum, MLG, Chicago Stadium or any of the orignal six buildings then that is pushing it a little to far. Also the Spectrum in Philly is gonna go in October 2009. So lights out for the two expansion six buildings.

  • of course, but buffalonians dont just like it cuz its where the sabres played...its been there since what, 1932? where we watched our NBA team(that we only had for an extremely short time..pshh typical) the buffalo braves, the blizzard, bandits, and then came the sabres in 1970, which added to it all

  • They couldn't sell the gold and red due to a mold and asbestos problem and the oranges couldn'y be taken out otherwise there would've been a structural problem just Maple Leafs Gardens does with there nosebleeds. Had politics not gotten in the way and the aud was demolished after they left then you could've easily could've saved the gold and reds.

  • :-( I still can not belive the aud is going to be gone...

  • Gil should've been there

  • It's the Sabre Dance, crushed!

    And it's all ours!

  • That's not clown music. What are you, a Flyers fan?

  • I was fine til LaFontaine's last goal and the buzzer. Fair thee well ole building. Home of many memories.

  • That still makes me tear up a bit. I recorded the last game and the ceremony afterward as it happened, and still have the tape.

  • I was fine until I heard the chant of "Lets Go Buffalo" then the tears took over. Gonna miss you Aud.

  • P.S. LOVED the horn

  • Its sad to see what happened to that building. I cant believe the city of Buffalo just let it rot. I think It was the greatest arena EVER.

  • I was in there a couple of times last year, and it really is in bad shape internally in some areas. However, I don't get why they were only selling blue seats and not any of the perfectly good golds, reds, or oranges at the "Farewell" event over the weekend, or in the online auction, which is still going on. Don't get me wrong, some of those seats are in bad shape due to water damage, but a lot of them aren't. They should just let fans go in and take what they want, with supervision, of course.

  • One of the best "Lets Go Buffalo" chants I've ever heard

  • I'm only 17 but I have a lot of memories at The Aud. when I heard it was goin to be torn down, It was like having you're heart ripped out and stomped on. I'll deeply miss the Memorial Auditorium. It's good the Sabres put the classic logo on center ice this year to commemorate the Aud and it should be there forever. R.I.P Memorial Auditorium, goodbye my old friend, goodbye.

  • i dont want the aud 2 go its the best hockey arena ever

  • We need a miracle to save it now

  • Isn't Bass Pro going somwhere else on the Marina? If so, the Aud demolition site should be a Sabres monument.

  • i hate bass pro they can go sove thir heads up each others ass for all i care the aud is a great building with too much history in it fuck you bass pro!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • the horn was awesome

  • God Save the Aud

  • It still hard to think that the biulding is going to be demolished.

  • yea...it's really sad. I see that building everyday and just think how it's gonna be gone....

    Man....eff bass pro lol

  • Knowing bass pro, they'd have to put up a memorial in front.

ON THIS GROUND ONCE STOOD THE HOME OF THE BUFFALO SABRES AND 18,000+ SCREAMING FANS FOR YEARS

  • He is. He really loves his Sabres.

  • PLEASE BRING BACK THE OLD SCHOOL SABRES SWEATERS, PLEASE!!!!!!!

    GO SABRES!!!

Note: Rick Jeanneret is the greatest broadcaster in the history of the NHL. (But thank you Ted Darling, you left too soon RIP.)

  • Pat Lafontaine is a class guy..I was always sorry to see him leave the New York Islanders

  • i miss the aud but it did always smell like they walled in some of the guys who built it. But it was a great arena i will never forget seeing "may day" there what a night

  • wow, brought tears to my eyes...

  • man you can smell the mold walking by the aud now but i had a lot of great memories

  • the aud is going to be torn down this summer to build a bass pro shop.SOOOO SAD.

  • omg that made me cry.

  • gotta love the sound of that horn

  • nasty

  • LET'S GO BUFFALO!!!

  • the chant always brings me to tears here.

  • 2008, Lord Stanley comes home to Buffalo!!!

  • if your watching this and your not a sabres fan why dont you try sticking your head up your ass and see if it fits.

  • lololol go sabres

  • the sabres are the best team i wish they wouldnt close the aud it looks cool downtown and if you dont like the sabres i hate you

  • Pick a fucking team chump. You can't have the name of a player who played primarily for vancouver and cheer for detroit. You can shove a squid up your ass! Go sabeys!

  • Fuck yea i can have any name i want so f u!im just sorry for you that your team sucks and has to struggle to get to the play-offs meanwhile detroit..oh yeah leads the NHL!!!!

  • Do I care? oh, that's right, i don't...

  • Oh ok so you are not a sabres okey i understand that no1 whants to be a fan of a team that loses all the time and has no stanley cups.

  • your gay. detroits choked a lot too...and vancouvers never won. please comment the detroit championship videos or are u too busy jackin off to those

  • LETS GO BUFFALO!

  • Lol i dont even like vancouver you stupid bitch!and sabres dont have a fucking chance now because their only good player Numminen isout for the season!

  • pavel you need to get a life loser

  • I have a very good life unlike you loser sabrefan you can fuckoff.

  • just by repling shows you have no life your just some punk 19 kid

  • its sad that people didnt take good care of the Aud over the past decade

  • its really sad that im hearing more and more things on the news about tearing down the aud and putting in the bass pro. i know its been vacant for years, and isnt there for any reason anymore except observance by fellow buffalonians and flashbacks as they ride past it on the highways, but i guess theyre selling off some of the section seats, and even pieces of little things inside. people are gonna go nuts over getting one of those.

  • Awesome video. THANK YOU I grew up a SABRES fan and enjoyed many games in the Orange

  • I was there and it was loud.

  • i'm getting all teary eyed :')

  • Extremely touching! Anyone who is a hockey fan and is nostalgic will love this. The final night at the Aud, bringing back players from past and each one on the ice, stickhandling with SABREDANCE playing in the background.....if you haven't shed a tear to this one, check your pulse!

  • What's with the Looney Tunes music?

  • its the sabre dance

  • this still gives me tears, especially with the Lets Go Buffalo chant.

  • What a heart-warming way to close a historic arena.

  • I too lived in the Buffalo area for until 1998. I was at the new jersey unveiling, but didn't see this live. I remember watching at home. I still have all of this on VHS. Been a long time since I watched it. Brought back a lot of great memories. This place had the best seating you could imagine. No matter where you sat, you were on top of everything. The noise in that building could be insane. But by the 95-96 season, you could just tell it was time for a change.

  • If you did not get teary eyed watching this, then you are not a true hockey fan whoever your team may be! We miss you Pat!

  • That was as classy a farewell as there ever could be, I can only imagine what it'd be like to see the Nassau Coliseum close...only imagine because it'd be condemned and deemed unsafe before they'd have a fitting tribute. :(

  • Hope they give a good farewell to the Joe before they get into the new building.

  • Very cool. I was there. I'll never forget it.

  • simply amazing thank you for posting i was 11 when the aud closed they need to restore it and turn it in to a buffalo sabres hall of fame

  • this was awesome! i wish i was old enough to go and remember that... where did you get that video?

  • Thanks! I listin to this song every hour know!

  • it's "Sabre Dance" by Katchutorian (i butchered his last name)

  • Whats the name of the song? I JUST heard it watching The Simpsons Halloween speacial.

  • i was there!!

  • couldnt they have just played in rochester 4 a year well they fixed the stadium so it wouldnt have to be torn down

  • they never tore down the Aud, its still standing. Hell the hockey boards with advertisements are still up.

  • Nice Video! I loved the goal horn, It is not the same in HSBC Arena

  • im not a sabres fan but this still sends chills through me

  • good vid i was only 11 when we left the aud for hsbc

  • It will truly be a sad day in Buffalo when the Aud is gone

  • A yes the good ole days and w/the BEST uniforms they ever wore, not that hideous piece of shit Larry Quinn ok'ed...Down w/the BuffaSlug! Up w/the classic, REAL, Sabres emblem!

  • check out my sabres video

search Buffalo Sabres 05-06 and 06-07

  • I remember Empire sports. Aired here in Binghamton also.

  • wow, brought tears to my eyes...

  • ahhhh, i remember Empire...

  • Getting Goos bumps watching this and seeing some of the Sabres legends on the ice to cap it off with Patty just placing the puck in the net. The aud is coming down i guess this yr had season tickets up there in the oranges what a climb well worth it. On with the new era and hopefully a chance to finally hang that stanly cup banner in our rafters where it so ever belongs we will be a new team next yr lets hope these guys finish what they started.

  • whats the name of the song being played?

  • The song is Sabre Dance

  • It gives me goose bumps to watch this.

  • I have the entire game against the Whalers (Hartford) on tape. It's a rare treasure, and had a tear in my eye when LaFontaine gently placed the puck into the net, one last time. Classy move by a classy player. He was one of the finest ever to play the game.

Thanks so much for posting this. Sent shivers up and down my spine when the crowd started chanting, "Let's Go Buffalo". Great, spontaneous move by the fans.

  • hey would love acopy of that game if you have it anyway of converting that to a dvd and if so how much

  • Why weren't they going full speed?

  • Umm, they are in their 60s!

  • before they rip it down they should take out the foghorn and put it in hsbc

  • They still use that horn, except they added a couple of air raid sirens that go off with it at the same time.

  • Hard to believe they're tearing it down this year!

  • SOOOO many memories... the smell, the food, the games, the concerts... the steps up to the Blue Seats... damn I miss that place!!

  • la la la la la la la laffontaiineee one of the greatist sabres thats ever lived

  • god those old uniforms look great.
