@thrashin89 You don't live in the Bay Area, do you??? Because I've been looking for other people who are heavily influenced by those two bands, but almost no one in my hometown seems to know who the fuck they are! If you play guitar, bass or drums, contact me ASAP!
I found Guitar Romantic in 2005 and listened to it almost everyday. I was totally blown away by this band. I wanted to see if I could find more music from them so I started looking around on the internet one day. I was really sad to find out that they only put out one record before their accident. You can tell from this record that they would have been a big in a few years. Every song on the record was good.
I was so reluctant to watch this because I never got the chance to see them live, and as I guessed, they're just as amazing live. Man, the good ones always go young.
Saw them on new years 2003 they were amazing. Best punk band to come out of Portland while I lived here. Never knew em but it still brings a tear to my eye to see this.
This is how we should remember them... the slashing guitars, the amazing songs, the white denim, the pink spray-paint. In our hearts; they don't get old, or grow fat... they won't break-up, or go bald. They are "perfect" in our memory. Sure, we lament what could have/should have been... that is natural, but be glad that "they" happened... be happy that they have left an amazing template for others to follow. Remember them and smile... and turn it up a lil' bit!
@nycalling72 mmmm sorry man, these were (are) a really good band but there isn't nobody like The Mats and that one is exactly the reason: the Exploding Hearts could be a "power pop version of"(in my opinion they are more like The Boys, Buzzcocks...) but the Mats has not a genre, they are over the aesthetic and the styles and you can feel their same force and sensibilty along different albums... ;)
@drewblood Well, I get the argument on The Replacement's behalf, but Nirvana wasn't good enough to compensate for the negative effect they had on music.
These kids would of been big as fuck if they didnt die, i love them so much. I always listen to their cd when i am at the beach, for some reason their songs sound so great at the beach.
For those who don't know, The Cute Lepers are the new band fronted by The Briefs' lead singer, and they are very much in the same musical vein as The Exploding Hearts- a very similar blend of '77-style punk and Powerpop, with a similar punk/mod style.
Since The Exploding Hearts have sadly been taken from us, it's great that there are still bands continuing that kind of sound! Check 'em out if you haven't!
So grateful that this is up here! I only found out they'd been touring after their accident and never had a chance to see them. This is the first footage I've come across. Many thanks.
I didn't discover these guys until after the tragedy. Fuck! I love them. I bought their Guitar Romantic album and it rotates around with my old school punk and hardcore. Fucking love the Exploding Hearts, and it sucks I never saw them live.
hands down my favorite band!
