I don't get all the hate on David Guetta, it seems like every genre of electronic music hates him because he's successful. Sure maybe he sold out, but he has done so much to push electronic music to where it is today. To compare Kraftwerk to Guetta is ridiculous though, they are completely different, electronic music has evolved. A lot of this evolution has to do with the amazing work done by Kraftwerk that has allowed for the technology we have today and the new genres that have emerged.
it takes an artist to listen to A sound(noise) and double it, cut it, create a new sound, to be a "Music Pioneer". Thats what Art Of noise and KraftWerk are!
Kraftwerk was an awesome group, I played this ALL the time back in the day.. and still play this album in particular.. A CLASSIC NEVER DIES!! aw man..
I've been a Kraftwerk fan since 1981 and I feel that each generation will consider that David Guetta or whoever the hell they consider at the time is breaking new grounds as a pioneer in evolutionizing electronica music. Kraftwerk decided to break ground during a time when the Go-Gos, U2, Siouxie and the Banshees, Adam and the Ants, AC/DC, and Oingo Boingo were going through their moments of fame. Kraftwerk is one that set themselves as being "different". We are the "Elite" few.
i was just wondering if that 80'sr&b/pop motif is an interpolation taken from another song? or if there's an 80's pop/r&b song with resemblance sound? anyone knows?
with just some sounds taken from this single piece of art, they predicted some of the most important sounds wich constituted part of the basis of hip hop (that drum break!) and house (that organ! in the variations part) without going far from their electronic context! I just can say they are totally genious ahead of all music and all time! and I forgot to mention that 80's-r&b/pop motif (perfect!) and that fusion baritone-marimba in the variations part (perfect too!).
@MrWaldek96 No chyba pierdolisz, Kraftwerk jako jedna z najbardziej wpływowych kapel w historii i prekursorzy muzyki elektronicznej mają w Polsce kupę fanów ;P
@Scifimaster92 Just hear Kraftwerk, I mean, can you hear it at the first time, Can you sense all the music that is in there? You cant! There are so many sounds on each speaker and it actually sounds fabulous and than... just hear David Guetta, he says his genre is electronic music or whatever the fuck, composed by one or two reppetitive sounds with some awkward voices and worse of all, poeple say "oh David Guetta so cool" And I hate that, David Guetta does not deserve to be called a Musician!
@Pololmejor Or I guess you could also say that Guetta deserves to get thrown from the Tour Eiffel by fellow Frenchman (and REAL electronic musician) Jean-Michel Jarre, and then get run over by Ralf Hütter's car, and finally get launched into the solar photoshpere onboard an Ariane V rocket.
Hey, if want to express your dislike for someone, you might as well be creative.
@Pololmejor Well, you stated perfectly the exact reason why the two of us dislike Guetta on your previous comment, so I don't think there would be any reason that someone would accuse us of trolling.
@Mentox2 Because Kraftwerk does electronic music and David Guetta tries to make electronic music. And people suck David Guetta's tiny dick for something he doesen't do right.
@Pololmejor Nonono, people don't die in Hell, they arrive already dead - you should have said "I HOPE DAVID GUETTA DIES AND THEN BURNS IN FUCKING HELL - FOREVER!!!!"
@Pololmejor I have to agree with this fellow. I read the wiki on this David guy and he is no music pioneer or an incarnation OF a music pioneer. He's in it for the money. FukHim if he disgraces the origin of Kraftwerk as well as The Art Of Noise. These music pioneers should always be recognized and respected for their intuition and creativeness!!!!
amazing i saw some documentary about japanese oldschool Electro YMO and they call there music techno pop in between 1979 and 1983 XD.
Also same for the band P model from Susumu Hirasawa, for me Kraftwerk is most "concrete music" or "experimental music" and the Swiss band Yello probably invent the Techno House music as it's true form before Detroit Artist.
This is interesting, while I enjoy their earlier work more, this album is still good, and I feel under rated by the critics, who seem to rate it pretty low, they haven't made a single bad album, and all of their album experiment with different concepts and sounds even if they are somewhat similar instrumentally, none of them are identical, which is a lot more than I can say for pretty much every other band I have listened to.
Personally I think they started to plageriaze themselves in parts of Electric Cafe. The track "Electric Cafe" does indeed have some similarities to "Trans-Europe Express", and that was yet again re-used for their Expo 2000 single.
Never really liked "Music Non Stop" and feel it should have been omitted from the album.
Don't get me wrong, I still consider "Electric Cafe" way better than most of what was released back in 1986, but for a Kraftwerk album it wasn't innovative.
@McLarenMercedes This is true, I don't know how to explain it, they are one of the few bands I can say that I really like despite the fact that often times, their albums use a lot of the same melody lines, but the one thing that held my interest pre-Electric Cafe was that they did continually progress musically speaking, but they have "self-plagarised" on a lot of their tracks as you've pointed out, and that is kind of what I meant, my word choice just sucks. lol But you are totally right!
I think they "peaked" with Computerworld in 1981. It's amazing how well it still holds up today.
On some video of "Homecomputer" I posted:"It's hard to believe this was in 1981. Might as well have been 1991. Or 2001. Or 2011...." A lot of thumbs up from my fellow Kraftwerk fans.
Coldplay sampled Computerlove (with Kraftwerk's admission), New Order used Uranium (from Radioactivity) in their Blue Monday. Chemical Brothers used Ohm Sweet Ohm for their "Leave home" single.
@i TOTALLY agree!!! I find it funny how most often critics rate Trans-Europe Express as their, but while I enjoyed that album, I thought "Computer World" was and is still an astonishing album, definitely my personal favorite. :) I actually heard the Coldplay song "Talk" before I had heard "Computer Love", and I was like wow "This sounds so much different from normal coldplay." And then I stumbled upon Kraftwerk a few months later and I zipped through their catalogue, and now I know why.
this goes beyond music - its audio brilliance!! have been playing this for 23 years and never tire of it. this is a great album and every track is timeless.

More trivia. Some famous bands that made covers of Kraftwerk songs include:
U2 made a cover of "Neon Lights". (a rare B-side, most U2 fans have no idea it's a Kraftwerk song)
Siouxsie and the Banshees made a cover of "The Hall of Mirrors".
Rammstein made a metal cover of "The Model" (sung in German)
I'd like to leave out all the DJ's who made techno dance versions of Kraftwerk songs.
