The Oro Verde was at one time the USS Palm Beach (AGER-3). Palm Beach was a Banner class intelligence gathering ship. The USS Pueblo (AGER-2) , the second ship of the class, was captured by the North Koreans in 1968 and the crew held prisoner for almost a year.
I too dove this wreck back in the mid 80's.. It was broken in half then and had a lot of room inside, now is has flattened out. Big Sand Chute is one of my favorite dives in GC

I dove Oro Verde last summer (08) and it was fantastic. Still tons of life around there; I went at night so it was varied, but still spectacular.

I used to dive this wreck back in the late 1980's. It sure has changed/collapsed over time!
