  • looks like a An-2 had sex with a DHC-2 Beaver

  • My Dad flew with Green Airways last summer. Been flying in Otters since I was a baby. Will never get sick of those planes :)

  • how cool is that...what an airplane.

  • You know, we all like the big radials, don't we? Big sound, etc. But instead of this 1000 horse ASh-62, how about a 1100 horse PT-6 turbine? Hang it out there far enough and it'll balance, and you'll have opened up a little room for luggage or something. Any takers? Or are PT-6's just too expensive???? Just askin'

  • Can you land one of these things on any lake big enough to accomidate you? Or are there restrictions on where you can land?

  • That engine is a polish Pezetel PZL ASz-62 Radial engine. It's modified by Airtech Canada.

  • @yu2beman Interesting you mention FNWX, a good friend of mine put a good number of hours in his logbook on it, I see it nearly daily, and it was turbo converted in 05.

  • To bad cessna did not learn from this era of aviation and gave the Caravan a 1000shp engine.

  • look at the size of those blades

  • Poland made Antonov's since 1960. ASh-62IR engines were manufactured there by 2 factories.

  • Damn things look like they were built to be converted to turbines later on.

  • Do you know if this is ODJ or LEA?

  • i think it is a 1000 hp enginge from schwetzow witch is also used or the antonov an-2

  • check out the landings by ...ultokill.

  • Done. That was a turbine conversion. Anyway, it is a great plane. Maybe the 'Viking', a company based in Victoria, will start building them again, as the brand new planes, with all improvements, and new technology incorporated.

  • Hope to be in Ignace this Summer, Damn I miss this town. Sturgeon lake is so awsome for Walleyes.. If you ever see the burn out in front of the MNR building on 599, my son did that!! it took him about 2 minutes and a little water on the tires.. Damn kid...What can I say?

  • That Plane looks like one I seen in Quebec...I see them a lot on Wawa Lake

in Ontario Canada. How hard are they to handle in rough wind?

  • keefer2111,

interesting, they can be seen on Wawa then too.. On the same trip we saw single Otter with a regular R1340 in Kenora.

Unfortunately, I don't have much knowledge about how both compare with regard to their flying and handling characteristics: one with the 1000 hp 'Ash-62', and the original one with R1340.. General opinion is that the 1000 hp is praised a lot. Because the R1340 original version was obviously underpowered.

  • Keith Watson has a few, the radial I fell in Love with.. The turbin, now thats one I would love the fly.

  • is that prop seriously spinning that slowly or is it just the vid?

  • Hey, no, it's probably just more of a vid effect. However, it is perceptibly slower than props on the most common opposite engines.

  • its a thousand horse it don't need to spin fast

  • Listen to that engine throbbing - man!

  • Had an otter fly over a camp I worked at, boy what a sound!

  • You bet, I think, among greatest things about radials - how they sound :) True!
