  • You are my mentor ..... but u don't even know it lol

  • Nicely done brother.... thank you!

  • lol u know that was sick when he demonstrated how it will sound and the kick drums come in.. sweeeeet

  • too kind.

  • he initialized the redrum!

  • I don't know why but my side chain isn't coming out when I'm committing the track to tape. I'm making sure that the spider splitter is hooked to the right redrum and everything else. I can hear the side chain when I'm recording but when I play it back there is no audio from that track. Anybody have any input?

  • You're the man Jordan! Legit tutorial, I Got You is one of your best old skool tracks!

  • Great lesson! :) thank you

  • REALLY helpful info. Thanks!!

  • I loved

  • Thanks so much man!

  • Very very very helpful. I've learned alot from you master lol

  • Can anyone help me!! i want to know how can i access my sound libraries through thor for example. such as the vengeance library i have. so i can play around with those synth sounds and not just the thor patches. because everytime i try to open them with thor the folder is empty.

    Thank you!!

  • @escanz You can only open thor files in the thor. If you want to play with vengeance samples open them in the drop down in the NN-XT sampler

  • thank you so muchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • you're awesome dude

  • great tutorials! :)

  • great tutorials! :)

  • Cant post a dl 4 my routing. if u want, plz contact me.

  • awesome!

  • great videos mate!

  • @luckydatevideos

Can I get some info on this software your using?like name, were to get it, and how much?it would mean a lot :p

This idea to produce beats has been haunting me recently and I got no knowledge or software\hardware :| let me know tho!

  • @giogiothekoolkid He's using reason, just google it

  • Luckydate - thanks for taking the time and effort to post these awesome tutorials. not only were they concise and to the point, but they actually work too!

    \\ Hugs //

  • Thanks again- I just thought that kind of effect was due to the kind of synth you used.

Totally made my music sound better.

  • Subscribed.

  • you cant sidechain multiple things to one sound can you? like say im trying to sidechain a bassline and synth, i wouldnt be able to do it to the same kick?

  • @AceTheIntrovertMusic thats what i wanna know to. I have all my redrums assigned to an individual channel on the mixer so this is a real fucking confusion for me.

  • @AceTheIntrovertMusic U only have to splitt the Kick with an "Spider Audio".

  • @LittleSickDuck other option is to use the aux outs on the redrum to send your beat to the compressor however the spider audio splitter seems to be the better technique ;)

  • i've used this tutorial so much, and now all my music sounds WAY more professional. before i couldnt quite put my finger on why it sounded crappy but now i have learned the sacred art of sidechain compression.

  • Thanks so much- lots of things on sidechain compression on youtube but yours was the best.

  • fuck, that sound is amazing

  • 6 people do not pump thats for sure

  • where did u get that bassline in the begining!!! its maddddd!!!!

  • Yeh I was looking for this as well!

  • thx gud vid man i was hoping u were going to show how to make the sythy sound move up and down making that kind of interesting effect, is that using the pitch or rate or something?

  • @vinel22 just down the pitch dude, super easy and effective.

  • where can i get that bennyb synth????

  • @fackinshyte he made a tutorial about it

  • you have skills

    nice job

  • your the shit man this is the tutorial ive been searching for

  • Yeahuhh More Reason Videos From lucky Date !!!

  • @luckydatevideos no homo , but i love you my synths are fat , my bass is heavy my dub is wobbly and its all thanks to you , you've helped me through the first stages of reason and its you that makes me want to spend hours just trying to get the right synth sound

  • Lucky Date... big ups for these tutorials, I've learned more from your videos than anywhere else. I have one question about this technique: Side-chaining in the example you gave uses the audio volume from redrum as an envelope for the synth, right? Is it possible to just use an LFO instead?

  • @kcap122 Nevermind, answered my own question. I used the sound output of a subtractor using osc1=sawtooth, osc2=off, and LFO 1 routed to mix (amount=100%), and got a similar effect. The cool thing about this is you don't need a kick track in the sequencer to make this work. What I learned today: If you don't like the envelope of a kick sample, you can use the LFO waveforms for the pulse instead.

  • im a regular user of Reason, but i never figured out how sidechain worked in reason, i only understood it in FL. so thanx a lot for helping a brother out :)

  • I also seem to find that my synth volume is decreased soo much after the saidchain has been made. but when i play it without the kickdrum it has all its volume... how do i fix this?

  • can you speed it up and down during track?

  • And you know what ? the 20 seconds starting from 0:35 just changed my life O.o

  • Ah man - 10/10 video!

  • What if you want more than one bass sidechained?

  • @BringThaiNoise you have to create MClass Compressor on other combinator/bass/sound and press Tab and like in the video put the cables from "Sidechain In" into Your Spider Audio Merge & Splitter

  • Hi, the Sidechain - Compression works great but it seems to take away the punch from the synth. I've tried to eq it but it didn't help. Any tip?

    Peace'

  • @Proxbreath That's what sidechaining does. If you'r looking for something that snaps right to the point at the start of the key, then don't use sidechaining.

  • has anybody ever tried this with kong?

  • Ben Affleck can make tunes!

  • it works and it´s great! cheers mate

  • your a life saver chris

  • your a lifesaver chris

  • You have no idea how happy you have made me lol

  • yehh, these videos are damn good. Great tutorials

  • Request : can you make a tutorial for that bass at beggening ?

  • how can i get that synth

  • "the secret of side-chaining" or "how you make every track sound the same" :P

  • thanks to you I have done my 1st remix with sidechains and it rocks

  • did you add reverb to the synth at 0:28

  • You are awesome! Your videos are very helpful and you explain things well. Thanks you very much

  • thanks for the tutorial, great work, ( not too sure about your personal opinions of dance music, though. :) )

  • Does anyone know how you would physically do this?? Like with a Microkorg and a drum machine for instance!

  • literally just worked out how to do it ...(by automating the compressor on off switch)). lol so ignore my last comment..

  • How can i automate the sidechain effect?...i basically have a string section that in the last 8 bars i want it to start sidechaining..

    ???

  • @tnwellian right click the automation on the compressor's on/off switch. just right click it and pick "edit automation"

or easier way just click record and switch it off then switch it on when you want it to come in

  • Thanks man i appreciate videos like this! and you do sound like an older version of Chris Griffin lol

    jk man

  • Where did you get the kickdrum from?

  • Thanks man! i was able to make this song using this sidechain tutorial:

Soundcloud . com / VinnieBeats (remove the spaces) Click "Countryfied"

I was pleased with the result :) i used sidechain on the chorus throughout the song

  • this IS the best youtube video... Ifoundit.

  • dude at last someone explains this concept! thank you so much

  • Hmm, how did you do that bit that does down at 40 secs - 45 secs?

  • great advice thanks a lot

  • Dude how the hell did you get so damn good at using reason? I'll shit myself if you tell me you're completely self taught

  • Hey lucky how did you get your track so loud?

  • EVERYBODY THAT USED THIS SIDECHAIN EFFECT! If you listen carefully. Theres is a click from the drum. Adjust the attack on the compressor, depending on wich drum you use (yes it does matter. Take a normal and a basedrop to hear the effect). It can ALSO be used as a constant hold down of the sidechaining, making it just as powerfull, but hidden. Wich is great for exampe voicesamples! Enjoy! IF this is total nonsens, please do write me and explain! thanks!

  • SICK !!!!! I never took the time to figure this out! Great sounds! I just book marked your website!

  • man this is cool good job on teaching!!!!!

  • I got a question, so I got everything hooked up. GOod vids by the way, but how can you record the synth without the kickdrum but with the compression? because when you just put down the channel on the mixer it cancels it out of the whole song. I am trying to make something like felix cartals "drone" how he starts with the synth with no kick drum but compressed, and then the kick drum comes in.

  • and draaaaaag

  • i i just had a question

do you master your own songs, and do you do it with reason?

i just want to find out out to master and extract to be a 320 file or even if im able to

  • He is using vengeance sample pals wich include thousands of samples kicks, synths, effects ect. And you can buy them on their website

  • I'm having trouble finding a good kickdrum, where can I find it? Sorry for the noob comment. ;]

  • Hey, where can I find the refills you've made. Are there any for free download?

  • helpful stuff m8, cheers.

  • dude where can i download that synth at???

  • so this sidechaning....... can u make a whole song out of it well the bass anyway and then some bleep in the backround

  • Lol when you first played the synth with the sidechaining, i honestly busted in my pants.

  • holy shit your videos are great, keep them coming!!!

  • IVE GOT IT WORKING FINE, BUT IT DOESNT SEEM PUNCHY ENOUGH AT ALL, ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCING THIS??? ANY REMEDIES?

  • @BigBaggaBlues YOU MIGHT WANT TO EITHER A: FIND A BETTER DRUM SOUND, B:EQ IT TILL YOU LOVE IT, OR C:MAKE IT FROM SCRATCH WITH A SYNTHESIZER...OR DO ALL OF THE ABOVE! WORKS FOR ME!!!

  • need help, im trying 2 do the side chain with subtractor, i cant do it :(

  • @TheDonrata for more explanation im trying 2 do side chain in subtractor in withe noise !! pleaseee help

  • do you use a midi keyboard.. or do you do every in reason. thanks for the help!

  • thanks man, sidechaining sounds awesome!

  • thanks brolio. BHS GRADUATES AYYYYYYYYYYY

  • It doesnt seem to work for me. Are you supposed to leave "enable pattern selection" on?

  • i really hate it when these things take me a million year to learn it and someone like you just appear and make it simple and easy, good job !

  • the compressor doesnt seem to be effecting my synth :S

  • awesome video! one question, a got a nn-xt with own kick-samples in it. Can i somehow sidechain that with a spider merger & splitter to make that pulse effect on my thor?

  • In a nutshell: This tutorial is so easy and clear to follow, I think I could do it with just the sound from the video and not the picture. So good 5*!

  • thanks man

  • duuuude, I just wanna say that you're such an inspiration!!! I love your tutorials and now that I know about your website, I will buy soooo much shit from you :D haha and btw I spread you around my school because there's a ton of kids that actually are in to like reason, deadmau5, progressive house, and all that jazz; who woulda thought that a bunch of kids from Michigan like dubstep and house :P haha keep up the good work :)

  • Nice but here's a question: Say I had exactly what you said setup (Spider going to kick.. next set of wires to mixer ) then I have room for 3 more devices.. Well I have two stacked basslines and a synth lead.. each 3 have a compressor that runs to the spider merger/splitter.. What if I wanted to add a 4th device like another synth lead? There isn't room on the spider and I can't just create another one since the Kick channel is taken by the 1st Spider. Respond here or

    Gore at painkill . net

  • @Gizore spider into the spider

  • yea I learned that by now... thanks for responding!! Much appreciation

  • Comment removed

  • The guy sounds kinda like Deadmau5.

  • where can i download more synths and kits?

  • can you use any synth and any kit on the redrum for this?

  • @robjames09 yep

  • this works amazingly.

    thanks dude

  • tnx man!

  • this is fuuuucking awesome 5*

  • omg thanks a lot, u're the king

  • You have taught me a lot bro, keep up the good work, may you be rewarded for your knowledge sharing, some folk do not share secrets!

  • great tips - thanks!

  • What song did you use in the start?

  • can anyone please help me, understand how to make it on frutiy loop

  • What do you mean? How to side chain in FL without using reason? I use reason in FL.

  • i will try it, thx!

  • hey bro!! i have followed this to a T a couple times.. im using a thor, with initialized patch (from ur other video) with alot of sustain and decay so it goes forever.. it just simply doesnt do it. the lights on the spider dont light up either. compressor settings are the same. any ideas? is it my synth? my bass drum is turned up all the way too.. its frustrating

  • nvm nvm i figured it out.. (i had 2 bass drums.. wrong one.. i apologize) but how do i make the WAAAA delay... like if d is a bass drum instead of dwaa dwaa.. like duwaa duwaa.. u know?

  • Sidechain compression is the shit!!!!

  • thanks so much love x x x wish u all the best

  • You are a hero man!!! I'm just starting out with Reason...You have helped so much...

  • bravo, you have exceptional videos high five for you man, my music is sounding good because of you

  • hey man, cant tell you how long i've been trying to figure this out. had no idea it was called sidechaining. anywho, i want to get into creating sounds, for personal and public use, and i wanted to know how you started off. appreciate the help man. stay up.

  • Your videos are great man, I love you.

  • yo, what kick r u using?

  • haha u sound like Chris Griffin from Family guy...thanks for the vid

  • LOL'd

  • @KennyParkz Ha Ha Ha!!! He really does doesnt he?

  • @djguy100 lol its coz i watched fam guy and watched this lol and i was like Hey!... i just heard that voice

  • @KennyParkz SETH GREEN!

  • @Acoustikover yeah him too haha.. but Lucky's got this...Nasally kinda voice? which Chris Griffin has as well haha

  • Can't this same 1/4 Pumping effect be achieved simply by using the LFO inside the Thor synth.

Just assign LFO 1 or 2 to Amp Gain synced with every 1/4th. Make sure the LFO wave is an forward Sawtooth and Voila.

    Same effect with no Redrum

  • it doesn't sound anywhere near as nice as this though :)

  • Boy in a band taught me that1

  • side chain 10x more effective b/c u can use it w/ any drum pattern, not just 1/4th

  • If you need a better design for your combinator just ask...i can make something nice for you

  • 1st, thanks for posting this. It's helped me to get a long sought after sound to my music. Secondly, do you use any other program to mix in afterwards? My problem is with exporting. I find it difficult to mix around the kick when I have to export it along with whatever synth I side-chain into. i.e. Kick1+Malstrom = Tug-o-war for frequency room. Thank you in advance ;^D

  • thanks these tutorials helps a lot of people who has the passion for music production like me...

  • your a ledgend! Guys buy the refills!!!! Well worth it and show your support! :)

  • Damn thats synth is nice! how do I get that ReFill?

  • comes out soon!

  • @luckydatevideos whens it coming out? where can i get it even?

  • try to find venegance thor patches they have 3 different benny benassi bass available he has a combi version tho i dont know about that...

  • @Traapped I have it :)

  • What Refill is that in (BennyB bass)

    whered you getit?

  • DOPE STUFF MAN

  • these tutorials are without a doubt the best ive ever seen. thanks for sharing such superb tutorials!

  • im using an nxt sampler.. cuz i dont know how to use the combinator...... and i did EXACTLY AS U SAID.. and .. when i play the redrum thing.. the bar on the compresser dosent move.. please please.. help.. sorry for the noob comment

  • message me and ill try to walk you through it

  • LOL ... i got it.. i had the knob that was supposed to be on the one to the right(on the compresser).. and i put it all the way to the left.. hehe sorry.. but i do need help

  • This is awesome. I teach Reason at University, and these are the best examples I've seen to show my students.

  • thanks!!

  • @stephencgregory you can study reason at University? shit i need to switch majors

  • reason 4

  • this is another form of sidechaining right?

  • dude, you ARE the shit :D:D:D keep those tuts coming :D x

  • at about 0:50 that clip of a track was so good!

  • thanks! that clip is from my remix called "I Got U" by Kraymer

  • Its not my kind of music, but it sounds really awesome!

    I need money ^^

    Thanks

  • Pu-pu-PUMP it up! Awesome!! Love the videos, hopefully you do one on percussions!! *fingers crossed*

  • will do!

  • Awesome mate, cheers.

  • sweet video man, now I know how I can rewire synth from reason to cubase without that kick being the trigger for the sidechain compressor... Im new to cubase, so I was wondering, where/how do you get synths as the one you used in this video? I only have the ordinary synths :(

  • check out my refill demo video!

in the description of that video is a link where you can buy all my synths

  • kk ;) il check it out

  • Great tutorial... again :)

But is it possible to hook up the RPG8 Arpeggiator (and switching it on/off using automation) to create more interesting synths?

I couldn't get it to work.

Keep up the good work. I'm looking forward to your next refill (without the ugly faceplate ;-) ).

  • Bro u are the best teacher !! ever how long have u been using reason!!!???
