  • I miss this game!

  • the naked gun XDDD cool game

  • I like this Dash better than ipad ver

  • Mentos, the fresh maker.

  • I played the crap out of the Sega CD edition of this when I was a kid. Really great title despite being so basic.

  • The first GTA!

  • I love the one for Ipod touch better image sound everything i love it.

  • Wow! That really is from 1985? oO

  • @LimboJimbo

yes, it is. designed by Data East, animated by the famous Toei animation studios. but this is "just" a video stream with some graphic overlays.

like most laserdisc games from the 80's it has great production value, but very limited interactivity.

  • oh nice the real arcade version of Road Avenger on Sega CD ^^ this look better realy cool ! ^^

  • WAIT! this is road avenger on sega cd!

  • @RXgamers yes, but this video shows the japanese Sega Saturn release

  • Holy irresponsible driving Batman. My favorite part is the people on the sidewalk who were obviously all crushed to death.

  • i loved these type of games, rember masked rider. kick ass

  • GAWD, I used to love this game on my old Sega Cd!

  • fucking laser disc games....christ.....

  • fantastic .....game

  • doesn't the guy at 2:10 look a bite like david hasselhof? :-P

  • Bay Watch :D

  • I mean, thinking bakc in the day seeing this was amazing. I remember seeing Holograms Time Travel... I think it was the same thing... correct me if I am wrong, but it did used videos and theme consisted in quick left and right reactions.

  • Yes, you are correct. It uses laserdiscs for video and it requires quick reflexes.

  • the funny thing about these LD games is, there wasnt much to them. I remember as a kid thinking man these things are the wave of the future. I remember the early PS1 games that had real live actors for their cut scenes. I wonder how many original LD arcade machines are still running?

  • If you guys want to play this and other kick ass laser disc games (Space Ace, Drgons Lair, etc) there is an open source project. I believe it is called Daphne.

  • this car like a pontiac firebird trans am

  • R.I.P.

    Pontiac

    1926-2010

  • Is that what the car is, a Pontiac?

  • sounds like a QTE from ShenMue

  • seriously, the graphics are pretty awsome for 1985!

  • That's no miracle, since none of the main graphics are running in real-time.

It's basically an enhanced video tape, cueing pre-animated film snippets, depending on whether you press the right button when prompted to or not. Of course, this also means that the interaction is severely limited. That's the big trade-off.

  • It's not a tape, it'a a CAV Laserdisc, each rotation/revolution of the disc consists one full image (two half frames). The laser pickup jumps 30 times a second for an NTSC CAV disc (like this from japan) to read the next frame. The game basically just positions the laser to the beginning of the next inplay film sequence. Dragon's Lair was also an arcade game using that laserdisc method.Pickups were slow so if you did the "wrong" move screen blanked for 2 seconds for the "you failed" sequence...

  • You're taking me too literally. Of course it's not an actual video tape. Never claimed it was. *roll*

Anyway, thanks for the additional information.

  • graphics lol, do you actually think graphics were like that in 1985 lol, its a laserdisc game so its basically an interactive cartoon, you just move the stick in the direction the arrows show, thats it and it will play out the same way everytime hence why they never really took off

  • Oh, now I know... Sry but you're too late!

TechnoEstate told me that about two months ago, too.

  • What can't you hate about it?

-Looks like an anime (a game that has anime graphics? Have you seen that before?)

    -Interactive

-Came straight out of the 80s.

    It's good in my book

  • holy shit ! is this for real ? 1985 ?

look at english games in 1985 , which is where i was born in 1980 , and the difference is amazing.

    THIS GAME KICKES ASS !

i would have loved this game so much.

    1985 ! thats f#ck#d up.

  • Anyone have an image for this game. I own this on sega cd but wanted to try with better video quality and emule is extremely slow.

  • The car at the beginning of the game is the same car from Double Dragon.

  • It looked like it came out of an anime.

  • okay...is this related to the MIDWAY/ATARI road blaster?...just wondering

  • The sega cd or Mega cd version is "THE ROAD ADVENGER"

  • i have the sega mega cd version!

  • This is the only game left that I want for my laseractive

  • lol cool! Its video alright... but can today's 3d cards render this? XD

  • This game rocks. Yeah.

  • wow that looks better than the NES

  • I think you mean Roadblasters from Atari? completely different game.

  • What I meant was it looks better than the NES games that come out for the NES which stands for Nintendo Entertainment System

  • lol k

  • where can i find roadblaster roms at?i try to run the gameon daphne emulator.i got all other files.but rom 2 is missing.where can i find roms for roadblaster or road avenger at?thanks guys.

  • I wish you had to target in the Sega CD version, it just feels sorta empty when you just push turbo, brake, left, and right. Thunder Storm/Cobra Command is missing the targeting in the Sega CD version too :(. Oh well, at least the Sega CD version has the BEST INTRO TO A GAME EVER, EVER! Oh yeah, was the playstation version released in the US?

  • "was the playstation version released in the US"

    I don't think so...

  • where you downloaded it? Im intersted in this game

  • I didn't download it... I own the original LD and the Mega CD/Saturn/Playstation ports of the game.

  • an early carmageddon :P

  • レーザーディスクのゲームか!w何のアニメ?

  • back in 1985 when games were about 2mb this mindblowing games with amazing graphics came out and shocked the world with a size of 1.5GB!!

  • next to dragon's lair, this is the best laserdisc game

  • DUDE. Add to the list of things YouTube has taught me:

Both of the Data East '80s laser games (Cobra Command and this 'un -- were there others?) were seriously bad ass.

Never encountered 'em in the arcades as a preteen back in the day. Darn shame!

  • Should have been a nice game... never saw it, imagine how many drawings they need for every situation!

  • just as much as they need for every other ~20 minutes long animation/anime at the time(1985)?

as far as I know TOEI Animation Studios created all the animation for this game with just 10 animators in less than six weeks.

  • Where'd you hear that from?

  • years ago on a japanese page(maybe from one of the developers at Data East/TOEI of that time, but I'm not sure).

  • thats class was this down loaded?

  • no, it's from my collection.

however the CD ISO files can be easily found on the net.

  • i have tried but i cant find a decent saga cd emulator

  • try KEGA Fusion 3.51 - great compatibility, easy to use for Sega/Mega CD emulation.

  • freaking awesome
