  • Wow....... still waiting for the video to load, and was reading the comments.... I (Well, it's really my mom's plant) have a large Nightblooming Cereus.... about 5 ft or more in diameter..... and a cutting we got to root.... but the cutting isn't doing well... I had no idea they didn't like full sun!!!!! The large plant is set back from the window, but the small one is right in the southern windows......

  • @MrBeavisBeavis you're fortunate to have such a large plant. I'm no plant expert and don't know why some cuttings do well when others don't. My first cutting grew like crazy; a current one is ever so slow...!

  • great

  • my mom was so happy it bloomed

  • Lunar floooower! *sorry for the random comment btw* XD

  • Fine random comments accepted here, thank you! Doesn't this flower make one happy tho? XD!

  • I have 4 of these plants potted outside and in June I had a total of 11 blooms but MISSED seeing the blossoms! Apparently they all opened the same night. It is now August 9th and the same plants have produced 8 MORE BLOOMS which I never expected to happen and I think they are going to blossom tonight! Hopefully, I can capture them on video or at least see them this time; I seem to miss them every year! I'm wondering if they will produce more flowers yet again! Truly beautiful video tizlizibz!

  • Thx TX6exMom! You are a mix of fortunate and not so....did you get to see one in bloom yet? (Since I'm so terribly late in replying here; pardon moi!)

  • So these flowers can be grown indoors?

  • Yes, I think year round. I'm in Ohio and mine was sorely set back from too much sun, which was morning only.. careful!

  • There should be a love poem for this flower.

  • Oh so true! (And I'd bet there is one or more out there right now) Thx :)

  • we have that plant it it blooms like crazy

about 34 blooming fowers a year

  • On just one plant?! Woah! Lucky you!

  • yea, its got 3 starting to grow right now so im going to make a video of it

  • thx, i DO look forward to seeing it XD

  • this one comes from the jungles of South America. there is another that comes from the deserts of Arizona and

Mexico, which has a slightly different looking flower. I have oodles of this kind , sort of like the ugly duckling that transforms into the beautiful swan ,only once a year each flower blooms only for one night. ,mine are over 90 years old and have multiplied so much I can't keep up,have Quenn of the Nights everywhere..lol..

  • ...'ugly duckling into the swan'..so true!

What a great 'problem' you have! There are so few in this area, it's a mini 'event' when one's plant blooms!

  • oh? i know this plant it comes from Mexico and some parts of Central America.its sad the bloom only last on night

  • My aunt superstitiously said that lucks arrive when the plant blooms. So, when we had 2 buds coming out, we were excited. But overnight, the squirrel ate them!!! Arrghhh! That was 5 years ago. Finally, it buds again. This time we took precaution. And it was worth the wait! Not only was the bloom beautiful, it's very fragrant also. But its bloom only lasts til morning!

    thanks for the ul.

  • Oh that must have been hard to take!

Amazing flower isn't it. I was mesmerized :)

I've had one growing for about 3 years now. I surely have years to wait for a bloom! But as you said, we surely all agree it's well worth it.

  • i feel so bad. I cut up my parent's one accidentally because i took it for a weed. :(

    And it was huge!

  • oh wow! Give them this vid for a gift! (I'll send it to you if you like!)

Good news is they are easy to root; and grow 'like a weed' LOL! I'll send you a leaf for a start, too, if you like!

    Thx for watching :)

  • from what i was always told, the plant must become both mature and rootbound in its pot before it will bloom.

  • What I want to know is what you have to do to one of these plants to get it to bloom. I had one for three years and it never bloomed once. :(

  • from what i was always told, the plant must become both mature and rootbound in its pot before it will bloom.

  • Love this flower.

  • me too! this one is my neighbors'...i started one from a leaf and it grows like a weed...3 years old and hasn't bloomed yet, but i'd say it's well worth the wait, if you can find someone who has one, beg a leaf and stick it in water! :D thx!
