This has been a tradition for thousands of years with no environmental impact. Worse impact is putting a body in the ground filled with formalin in a sealed casket that will eventually leak all of these chemicals into the ground. As the casket starts to disentigrate, you have metals also entering the ground and water. The American way of burial and disposition of human remains is MUCH WORSE on the environment.

Through natural process of cremation the muscles in the body shrink with heat,and move upwards and that includes everything,until they melt.
