I grew up in the white suburbs, but I remember being surrounded by the early 70s soul and blaxploitation movies. My brother and I thought it was all so cool -- Isaac, Pam Grier, Richard Roundtree, Al Green, etc, etc.

The art coming from the African American community during this time seemed to me to have so much optimism and vitality. The vibes makes me feel great. Artists can really reach out and touch people across any boundary.
