I LOVE the viola...although the violin is a beautiful and sweet instrument, a viola touches me much more. it´s just can be rougher, wilder and more melancholic. Love it...<3
This is the main reason I play viola. The most awesome string we can gloat to the violinists about. And they can't say they have the E string, because we have a fourth-finger note for it. :P
@killercheese101 yep you do, but its not nearly the same XD i played the viola for a while and though the deep voice it owns is..... well sexy to put it bluntly, the violin still gives me goosebumps lol. Still much love to violist everywhere :p
@TheJunglist1210 i was just kidding; I somewhat agree. I mean, everyone still has their own taste, and this might not appeal to some. eh, who knows. to each their own, i suppose.
hhaahhahhahhahahahahahahahhaha..............thats true!!..hhahaaahhahhaha.....it must be a very jealous violinist....hhahahhhahahha...... nice commentary :) LARGA VIDA A LA VIOLA!!!!
Hah, I love it. Whenever a composer wants to write a depressing piece what key do they immediately resort to? C minor, the bloodiest and deepest red of all keys. There is no way around it, there are so many elegies written in c minor, even ones not written for the viola!
@AbsoluteZ3R0 another one that the greeks even said was considered to be an evil key (chord) not all keys were invented back then lol was the F# - you can make some evil stuff and very depressing
This Song Makes Me Think Of My Mom... I Really Miss Her... This Song In A Way... Kinda Comforts Me... Thank You Stravinsky.. ~.:Your A Many Of Many Words.. But More So Of Notes:.~

There are other great performances on the CD, including a bunch of Stravinsky/Dushkin transcriptions for violin and piano (from Mavra, Firebird, etc.).
I am doing a project on Igor Stravinsky for my music & art class and after looking up a couple songs of his, I really am hooked

This is how a viola piece should sound...emphasizing the C-string tactfully.

Wow, amazing. I didn't know he wrote a piece for viola!
Does anyone know where that first picture of him with the sunglasses is from? That's the coolest Stravinsky pic I've ever seen!

This piece is so devastating. I love how it really challenges tonality without fully departing from it. It is truly tragic.
scienquist 1 year ago 40
@scienquist
Yeah, Stravinsky is great at that. This work is a great example of counterpoint, and with varying tonalities, no less.
