I just watched Mexico beat the USA 2-1. On the winning goal, Efrain Juarez from Mexico blew right by Donovan! It led to an immediate goal for Mexico. I started laughing when I saw it.

Well, he had the swine flu, so that's about as good of an excuse for a lackadaisical performance than I can think of. Actually he was at fault for both goals. On the first he made a reckless attempt to try and dribble by one of his Mexican opponents and it was taken away.  If not for Donovan's sickness, nobody knows what would have been the outcome of that game. Donovan was playing the best football of his life coming in, and that was the primary reason I and many others had any confidence.

Fact: Landon Donovan, Beasley, Altidore, Adu and Onyewu (maybe Dempsey) are probably the only active American players, who, if born in anyother country, would still be on or in serious contention for the national team. Adu was heavily recruited to stay with Ghana and Onyewu was on the Belgian league best XI and Beasley is a regular in the Europe post season. He is quite good (and i'm not even an LA fan), both in the MLS and in international play(unfortunately he was injured for the England Friendly). You're right though, there was nothing stellar about those clips. I don't really know why those were picked. But, just to paint a picture, he's leading MLS right now with 9 goals in 9 games and 4 or 5 assists. (the addition of David Beckham has really helped him in the goal department because he now has a guy that can give him pinpoint services)

And the number of games DO matter when comparing attendances. NBA plays 82 games, NHL plays 82 games.... NBA has 20,000 seat arenas, NHL has 19,000 seat arenas. NHL has higher attendance than NBA at MORE EXPENSIVE prices.
