Yeah, I remember it. and I remember the creature from the black lagoon. They must have played it several times. I really liked the godzilla, rodan, and monster zero type movies. I watched it in Solvay.
I am from Kingston, Ontario and we watched this show every Saturday afternoon! Loved it! I still remember one of the classics called "The Mole People". My youngest brother wouldn't go outside alone for a month after seeing this one with us - he was about 7 at the time!
OMG! I was little and used to watch it on saturdays! we lived in Rome! my sisters were teens and loved it, i was scared by alot of it at the time, now im searching for it to see what i can find. I can remember the Blob! looking for this stuff so my son can watch. Hello to all of you from back home!

I just found this site! I was around 10 or 11 when I started watching this! I remember being afraid of the forest around us because of monsters! Great show....and the hand! yes! I remember the hand!
I used to watch MMM during the 1960s in Binghamton. We had some of the Syracuse channels available by way of 1960s cable. I remember watching Frankenstein meets the Wolfman, I was a teenage Frankenstein, and The Thing the Would Not Die.
I'll do you one better. I remember going to bed back in the early 60's around 7:00PM so I could get up to watch "Monster Movie Saturday Night" when it came on at 11:00PM Saturday nights.
It was so hard to see the whole show cause we had to get up to go to church early on Sunday Mrn...good memories.
We never missed this each Saturday as kids in Dryden, NY. I always thought that the creepy estate and mansion were real and wanted to go there and see Dr. Witty. He had the coolest rings.
I just took a trip back some 40 years watching Monster Movie Matinee while growing up in Mattydale,New York............... the good times watching this as a kid,I still love the Scary Movies today and thanks to MMM.
Yep, I used to watch it on WSYR's sister station in Elmira every Saturday afternoon. I seem to remember that it was rebroadcast late on Sunday nights, too, early on. Never missed a week!
My brother & I used to watch this ALL the time growing up in Horsheads, NY. It was one of the few things we loved doing together. So great seeing it again!
I remember this. They usually concentrated on the classic Universal horror series. Does anyone remember the show on Channel 9 that would start later in the afternoon, and usually showed Japanese giant monster flicks?
I remember that well. It was usually around 3 in the afternoon on saturdays. Channel 9 also used to run a show in the early 70's saturday nighst at 11:30 called Saturday Shock Theater. The introduction had Mike Price reading the movie title over eerie harpsichord music and there was a black robed death like figure that stood there waiving around an eyeball. During the show close the death like figure would then squish the eyeball in its hand. This ran from like 1971 to 74 or 75 I think
Nope, this would have been mid 1980s. The theme song was a robotic voice singing "The Moooooovies!" over an animated sequence of monsters and fantastical stuff.
ok I remember the one you are referring to now. They had a couple different variations of that opening. There was the horror/scifi one you mentioned and there was also a more slapstick funny sounding one for when they ran comedies. Its too bad none of the local stations run monster movies anymore. They must think the Used Car King ads and other infommercials are supposed to pass as entertainment nowdays
I remember watching Monster Movie Matinee on Saturday afternoons. In 1976, there was a plotline in which Epal tried to photograph Dr. Witty's face. The result was a photo of both Witty and Epal, but Witty's face was blurred. When the photo was taken, Epal looked at it with a puzzled expression, showed the photo to the camera, and asked "Dear Guest, what do YOU think happened?" An alternate shot of the photo you posted showed Epal's eyepatch flipped up, revealing his eye. Great memories!
I grew up in Waterloo NY and this show was a big part of my childhood in the late 60's, early 70's. No matter what my friends and I were doing, we would HAVE to stop and go inside to watch that day's film. My interest in Universal Monsters and 50's Sci-Fi continues to this day, largely due to this Saturday treat!
I was a regular MMM fan in the late 60s living in Rome, NY - it seems like a silly little show but still really kept us tuned in every Saturday. Amazing to see these clips again after 40 some years.
No kidding?! I remember that name from a classical radio program called "Candlelight in Stereo" that my mom used to listen to on Saturdays. A can almost hear his deep voice announcing "this is your host Alan Milair". That would have been around 1965. Talk about memories!
I grew up in Canastota and remember watching every Sat. after getting home from bowling. Several of the movies were memorable.I found one called "Diablo Giant' on a Horror DVD compilation. Can someone help me find another which has an upright sea creature with tentacles/whips which comes ot of the sea, breaks into a house and crushes a guy between his bed and the wall? I remember this scared the heck out of me at about age 10. Anyway, good post and and great show growing up.
one video " horror film) they never showed was a title called " the nigt andy came home" aka deathdream. another was "house of blood" gr8 suggestive matter, both should be remakes by rob zombie
I went on a tour and saw the set with the monster mansion. They would turn on the dry ice fog machine and the swamp would look kool. We were kids but it was my favorite show on T.V. Now I own most of those movies. Thanks for this.
I used to sit every saturday at 1 and wait for monster movie matinee.....the movie would last till about 215 or 230 and then I would be afraid to go to the basement because I would expect the hosts to be down there....too funny. I waited all week for monster movie matinee....so great to run across this clip. thanks!
Oh yeah I totally remember Monster Movie Matinee. Thanks so much for posting this. Saw another clip with the opening theme and model, etc. - classic! I was recently describing the show to someone who'd never lived there or seen it and they were howling when I told them "you never saw the guy, you only saw his hand." It's right along the lines of SCTV's Count Floyd/Monster Horror Chiller Theater. They definitely don't make 'em like this anymore.
Saw it...regular viewer...started in the late '60s, on channel 3. It premiered shortly after channel 5 had a similar show, James When (call letters for 5 WHEN) that was also on sat. afternoon. I remember watching creature from the black lagoon on 5, but that was it...after that it was all monster movie matinee at 1pm. Started with the original frankenstein flicks then moved on from there...I think it was still going in the early '80s but can't be sure. Music still scares me to
Bad acting... Bad sets... Badly edited horror movies... But we loved it here in Sidney NY. I also remember Witty doing the local weather, and Epal as host of "Salty Sam's Super Saturday".
Wow, thanks for sharing! I grew up in Syracuse and watched this every Saturday. I remember visiting the TV studio with my elementary school class. I think it was either Morgan Road Elem or something like Donland Drive Elem. I was thrilled to see the studio and the props used in the opening sequence. Very nice memories. Thanks a lot.
I was born and raised in Horseheads. I recall watching Monster Movie Matinee every Saturday afternoon. I slept with the lights on for days afterwards.
Thanks for posting this video. I remember MMM fondly. I grew up in Rochester and, with a little help from a coat hanger and some tin foil, I was able to watch the show weekly (although a little bit fuzzy at times). Great memories!! Wasn't E. Nick Witty also the WSTM weatherman. I heard a rumor that he was. Please post more if you can.
EPAL was also Salty Sam on Saturday mornings. Not sure, but I think both of them did different things for the TV station, so I wouldn't doubt the E. Nick Witty also did the weather.
I'm in the northern tier of PA (Galeton) and I remember watching this as a kid on Saturday afternoons. I thought I was the only one who remembered this! Wow!
I remember this well as a kid. I used to live in Camillus NY on the outskirts of Syracuse. There is an interview with Alan Miliar(Dr Witty)on The American Scary DVD that just came out. It looks like he still wears the big riby ring too.
I lived on the south side of Elmira in a place called Pine city. I now live in the Albany area and I was telling a friend about this recently who is big into horror flicks. He doesn't remember it. Although it's possible they may not have received the Syracuse channel here. But for some reason I thought it was on the NYC- WPIX 5. I loved this! Thanks for posting! Mike
That's funny, I remember letting go of drums for baseball. Loved the show also. Did you also watch Chiller Theater back then. It came from WPIX in New York.
Yes, I'll never forget the intro, which they also showed after each ad break...the six fingered, clawed hand popping out of the ground, and the voice that said..."Chilllllllerrrrrrrrr."
I'm from PA, on the lower fringes of the MMM viewing area. But I grew up on this show, had to sleep with the lights on many a night because of it. There were other "local horror shows" on my TV; Spaced Out Films, Fright Night, Uncle Ted's Ghoul School, Shock Theater, The Big Preview on Ch 9 or something.......but Monster Movie Matinee owned all!!!
Hope you know what this show did to me. To this day I am still hooked on B grade sci-fi movies. I tried to never miss this show growing up in Bridgeport. Goes to show that you didn't need all the special effects to make a good show or movie.
I used to watch this all the time in the late 60's-mid 70's on then WSYR channel 3,and yes it was on 1pm saturday afternoon. The original theme was from the movie This Island Earth I think. I saw my very first Godzilla movie on Monster Movie Matinee back in the late 60's. Great stuff. I wonder if any of the old video of the original eps is kicking around anywhere. There is an ep of the Chamber 13 version up on youtube.
Yea, loved it also. Especially the intro music. I'm from the Elmira, New York area originally. The show was produced in Syracuse, New York. It would play every Saturday afternoon. I only remember the hand with the ring and the eye patch wearing assistant.
My three older brothers and I would put aside anything and everything to watch the monster movie matinee. I remember being just terrified by Dr. Witty's hand. I thought that was all there was of him and that the hand was talking. Do you have any more of this great classic?
Hi watched this years ago on Saturday at 1pm I believe was on channel 3.
