This is such a gorgeous, timeless classic. I went to college with their drummer Mike Salmon. I never understood why they made some real 'turkeys' in the late eighties?
it's raininig here in my town......this is the best song to listen...this video atmosphere is amazing....actually, Prefab is the best for every moment!!! Actually, I was a child in that time (in the 80's) and I just discovered them about FIVE years ago....so I felt in love about them........THEY ARE THE BEST...I miss a time that I didn't live!!!!
this album (steve mcqueen) is still regarded as a masterpiece by a lot of serious musicians and critics...the simple fact is...almost ANYONE in a studio today would give ANYTHING to come up with original songs and complex arrangements like sprout did on this great album...it is one of the greatest albums of that period - and of all time...few would disagree with you...
Grovegreener coudnt agree more wot a great era for pop , i loved all those bands all so unique and individual each with there own sound an style ! Blue Nile are my fave band of all time !! Love these guys too Big time !! dont think anyones capable of music like this nowadays , fedup with indie bands there so boring !!!!!
Hey Guys, My heart melts at 0:32 to 0:38 when I see Wendy's beautiful open blue eyes and hear her angel voice. Thank you Prefab for creating such beauty in this world that is often so dark...
Hey! You must be in love by Wendy...I saw your commments about Wendy on "life of surprises"...but you are right! although I prefer Paddy....They are the best.. I am sorry these times are gone....
This was hands down the heyday of pop music. Prefab Sprout, Aztec Camera, the Blue Nile, Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, Everything but the Girl, Nick Heyward, Orange Juice = wondrous, heartfelt lyrics - here crushingly profound and melancholic
I was in a bar in Ibiza on the beachfront, beautiful hot day, not pissed but just merry. This song came on and its probably still the happiest moment of my life to this day ha ha SAD EH?
Yeah but it was your atmosphere coz u wer young and enjoying life. Just like the young folk in the seventies, 90's etc. It is all special and magical. I mean if I was 17 and listening to The Fratellis and Glasvegas I'd be well chuffed. Nostalgia is a great thing....What's actually lost is your youth not the magic or atmosphere. I think.
Untill discovering YOU-TUBE i never seen this video but heard the song dont get me wrong but i love all kinds of music apart from country & western and rap. i do think mainsteam music has suffered eversince rave music kicked off in the late 80s the dynanics of the music industry are different Shoot.. Simon Cowell..Reserect Tony Wilson...
my brother used to work in a radio station in the caribbean when this song came out. he was always making tapes to play in his car--remember cassette tapes, you guys? anyway, i was thrilled when he finally trusted me with his cool mazda 323--lol. i would play this song over and over as i drove madly through the sugar cane fields or to the beach, dreaming of fantastic love and life. that was the 80's for me. brilliant song.
LOL...i had a sliver four door mazda 323! I loved that car! This song reminds me of listenting to the car's cassette recording windows rolled down on hot Michigan summer day circa 1987.
Fantastic song. Prefab Sprout surpassed the genres of the time by actually writing and performing technically superb and well crafted songs. They stand the test of time so well. Brilliant!
Prefab Sprout / Paddy were before there time, listen to this with my first love, reminds me of her even today 20 odd years later1 a real classic, great lyrics, one of the best of all time!
good point. this song is in the same (very high) class as REM's early masterpieces and even compares to morrissey's first great solo album..
on a personal note: i was 22 and in love when this song first appeared. living in south london, first job and all that. it is almost unbearable hearing it again.
Im still addicted to this song.....for some reason I remember hearing it when Liverpool won the double in '86....I was only 9!!!!! This is a beautiful song.Makes me feel sad and happy at the same time.
i was just checking out prefab's history, and then i thought 'when love breaks down' & 'appetite', gotta hear them. you just posted this, thanks. talk about timing.

Hey guys,
Can you visit & comment on Prefab's "Ice Maiden" song on YouTube and help ensure it stays posted. It's a fantastic song that's
really been underestimasted and really deserves more publicity online.
Thanks a million - Sean from Trinidad.
