  • perfect pop

  • absents makes the heart lose weight....

  • i post "the mystery of love" on youtube, hope the fans liked

  • One of the all time greats, I would say! Cheers!!!

  • This is such a gorgeous, timeless classic. I went to college with their drummer Mike Salmon. I never understood why they made some real 'turkeys' in the late eighties?

  • it's raininig here in my town......this is the best song to listen...this video atmosphere is amazing....actually, Prefab is the best for every moment!!! Actually, I was a child in that time (in the 80's) and I just discovered them about FIVE years ago....so I felt in love about them........THEY ARE THE BEST...I miss a time that I didn't live!!!!

  • Hi moisesmateus, Thanks for your nice comments. I'm glad you discovered them. It's amazing how timeless their music is. Enjoy, Sean.

  • that's a good post, mouse!

this album (steve mcqueen) is still regarded as a masterpiece by a lot of serious musicians and critics...the simple fact is...almost ANYONE in a studio today would give ANYTHING to come up with original songs and complex arrangements like sprout did on this great album...it is one of the greatest albums of that period - and of all time...few would disagree with you...

  • well.. there's always a song.. always..

didn't think that one would have been of some use to me.. untill now.

  • wendy smith looks like nicole kidman on this video huh?

ahhh the eighties...my era, such wonderful music, such wonderful times (mostly).

  • i think what we call 'rock and roll' died in those years -- prefab was the best band in the 80s

  • I agree with you, doubtwater. I'm sorry they didn't get the full recognition they deserve.

  • happy new year, thx for your reply.

  • I agree with you, bambambutu, but also check out nicole - I mean Wendy, ha ha - in "Life of Surprises" - she's sizzling!

  • Grovegreener coudnt agree more wot a great era for pop , i loved all those bands all so unique and individual each with there own sound an style ! Blue Nile are my fave band of all time !! Love these guys too Big time !! dont think anyones capable of music like this nowadays , fedup with indie bands there so boring !!!!!

  • when love breaks down, its a lying bitch looking for ez sex that always ruins it,

because whores can't help but to cheat on the people they claim to "love"

  • Hey Guys, My heart melts at 0:32 to 0:38 when I see Wendy's beautiful open blue eyes and hear her angel voice. Thank you Prefab for creating such beauty in this world that is often so dark...

  • it is fucking dark...its a fucking rip off!

  • Hey! You must be in love by Wendy...I saw your commments about Wendy on "life of surprises"...but you are right! although I prefer Paddy....They are the best.. I am sorry these times are gone....

  • This was hands down the heyday of pop music. Prefab Sprout, Aztec Camera, the Blue Nile, Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, Everything but the Girl, Nick Heyward, Orange Juice = wondrous, heartfelt lyrics - here crushingly profound and melancholic

  • I am with you on the Everything But The Girl

  • one of the bwst songs ever

  • is terrible and is a video without keen

  • what a dynamite song...so much to learn from this song,,love to all

  • A truer word was never sung. The lies we tell...

  • great song

    totally true, as well.

  • ...la canción que acompaña a mis sueños últimamente...

  • I was in a bar in Ibiza on the beachfront, beautiful hot day, not pissed but just merry. This song came on and its probably still the happiest moment of my life to this day ha ha SAD EH?

  • yea. Tears runnin down my cheeks

  • Its cinda funny watching all these 80s video clips in that there is a magic wich today seems to be lost. Songs like this had atmosphere.

  • Yeah but it was your atmosphere coz u wer young and enjoying life. Just like the young folk in the seventies, 90's etc. It is all special and magical. I mean if I was 17 and listening to The Fratellis and Glasvegas I'd be well chuffed. Nostalgia is a great thing....What's actually lost is your youth not the magic or atmosphere. I think.

  • Untill discovering YOU-TUBE i never seen this video but heard the song dont get me wrong but i love all kinds of music apart from country & western and rap. i do think mainsteam music has suffered eversince rave music kicked off in the late 80s the dynanics of the music industry are different Shoot.. Simon Cowell..Reserect Tony Wilson...

  • I agree.

  • I love this song! Reminds me of good memories in Brazil

  • Wendy Smith's backing vocals are to die for. Her voice takes you away to another place. 'Steve McQueen' is one of the best albums ever.

  • What a song! Her backing singing makes the hairs of your neck stand up!

  • forgive my last comment...i was in a dark place!!

  • god this song is so true....love is pointless!!...it never lasts!

  • no... I know exactly what you mean MT

  • Love the song! It is very sad but it's really good!!!

  • Ooooh Man! This song brings me so many memories of my college days back in New Jersey. Thanx for posting Paruomax.

  • THE SWEET SEPTEMBER RAIN~!

  • my brother used to work in a radio station in the caribbean when this song came out. he was always making tapes to play in his car--remember cassette tapes, you guys? anyway, i was thrilled when he finally trusted me with his cool mazda 323--lol. i would play this song over and over as i drove madly through the sugar cane fields or to the beach, dreaming of fantastic love and life. that was the 80's for me. brilliant song.

  • LOL...i had a sliver four door mazda 323! I loved that car! This song reminds me of listenting to the car's cassette recording windows rolled down on hot Michigan summer day circa 1987.

  • Fantastic song. Prefab Sprout surpassed the genres of the time by actually writing and performing technically superb and well crafted songs. They stand the test of time so well. Brilliant!

  • Rhoda 1997

  • I meant to add a very big long lasting soul mate kiss because there is/was and can be no other x

And yes it broke down sichophantics.

  • What a great song, it speaks to anyone who's ever seen the end of a relationship.

I wish I had been old enough to appreciate this at the time. Music is good today but noone is writing these kinds of songs anymore.

  • I first heard it when I was living in Brazil.

    Nice song! Good memories!

  • Prefab Sprout / Paddy were before there time, listen to this with my first love, reminds me of her even today 20 odd years later1 a real classic, great lyrics, one of the best of all time!

  • Classy and endless. also sad but romantic....but what the hell am I talking about....they know it...

  • such a beautiful song, it was actually released 3 times before it was a hit and it still only just made the top 20.

SHOULD HAVE BEEN A NO1 . 1 OF MY ALL TIME FAVES

  • MTV no doubt had a hand in it's success. A great song typifying the melancholly music of the Smiths and others.

  • good point. this song is in the same (very high) class as REM's early masterpieces and even compares to morrissey's first great solo album..

on a personal note: i was 22 and in love when this song first appeared. living in south london, first job and all that. it is almost unbearable hearing it again.

    but what a great song!

  • Gotta agree......this is the 80's for me!!!!

  • An 80's classic song from a classic band - Pure genius

  • this song is something special

  • I just Can get enough of this song! Love it really!

  • I just can't get enough of this song! Love it really!!

  • Im still addicted to this song.....for some reason I remember hearing it when Liverpool won the double in '86....I was only 9!!!!! This is a beautiful song.Makes me feel sad and happy at the same time.

  • Great track, i'd say it's there best one.

  • best song from the eighties

  • if you can write songs like these you have nothing to fear paddy - wishing you the best

  • I spent about 4 weeks listening to this album and nothing else...it ruined my life (in an oddly good way)

  • You're not the only one .... It totally transformed the way I look at melody and harmony. This song and Cars and Girls takes me back to school days.

  • O meu album preferido de sempre, que nostalgia dos tempos do vinil...

  • Just a perfect song from a perfect band!!!!! Their Greatest Hits is an amazing album!!!

  • beautiful beautiful song.

  • solo quando un amore finisce, puoi capire sino in fondo questa canzone!

  • Oh gawd how it hurts when it breaks down.

  • Perfect Autumn Song. When its turning cold im always listening to this. So good & nostalgic

  • Prefab... when the nostalgia breaks up (forse)

  • I can still remember buying this album way back when. Brilliant then and now. Enough said.

  • To someone like me who's in search for the musical holly grail, This Band is such a finding!!!

    Paddy, if you're reading, I've joined the wrecks...is it too late??? :) :) :)

  • who can write a song like that? absolute classic, thanks for posting.

  • too bad i can't see 'appetite'. how long before this video gets yanked?

  • i was just checking out prefab's history, and then i thought 'when love breaks down' & 'appetite', gotta hear them. you just posted this, thanks. talk about timing.
