  • Miss Kitty Wells one of the greatest of all time. thanks for posting this great song.

  • Simply and sincerely, beautiful.

  • No Song Done by Kitty Wells was found by Accident, She is still In All Our Hearts..

  • Back in the 50's the Quuen's of Country were: Miss Kitty Goldie Hill Jean Shepard and Rose Maddox-long before Loretta and Dolly!

  • Dont get me wrong, but i do think Dolly is the queen, mainly because she has stayed in the mainstream industry longer, has had many hits, experimented with multiple genres and i am a huge fan ! lol. I do love Kitty too, and loretta, tammy and patsy. All are legends.

  • Kitty, Loretta, tammy, dolly and patsy are the queens and legends of country :D i love this, thanks for posting

  • Kitty was a big inspiration to Loretta Lynn...Kitty stood up for women, and then Loretta did too, with their songs about men runnin' around and all that.

  • Kitty was on the Marty Stuart Show (RFD-TV) a couple of weeks ago. They sang "It wasn't God who made honky-tonk angels". Kitty joined in at the end and her voice was still beautiful.

  • I wish my dad was still alive to see his favorites on you tube. He used to spend hours at Woolworth's 5 and 10 looking through used 45 RPM's that had been played in jukeboxes.

  • I was surprised to learn Ms. Wells is living and is 91-years-old and that she was the first white woman to earn Grammy's Lifetime Achievement Award in 1991. The previous seven or eight winners were black women. So what do I think ? After watching this video I think that Kitty Wells is the 'Queen of Country Music. (I am not a CM fan, but I do like Ms. Wells along with my personal favorite: Carrie Underwood 'Temporary Home')

  • I always love to hear Kitty Wells sing and I saw her pewrform in person many times. She is a great singer .

  • Hmm. She was cute.

  • sort of the Hank Williams of Female Country Singers, what a great soulful voice! Wayne Arthur

  • @ussclaudejones

    Good description. I agree.

  • Great video of our great Kitty Wells. We will alway love and respect all she gives to country music.

  • It's So Good. I covered this song on my page.

  • No offense to Patsy Cline fans, but Kitty Wells is the queen of Country-Western.

  • Love the ax, she's a wonderful singer.

  • she's my 4th cuzin :3 she's my grandpa's first cuzin ^^

  • She is ABSOLUTELY undesputed Queen of Country!

  • She's a natural beauty and spectacular voice - so refreshing to hear and see such an act. No comparisons today to this sort of music.

  • La os aldrig glemme de hellt store .

  • Shes a Country blues singer. Her arms, face and neck are so pretty. The models in Hollywood aint worth a dime compared to Kittys down to earth Beauty.

  • thank you Angel

  • The Queen of country queens - the best.

    Definitely a 5 star.

  • Aw she sounds so country, ol country. Faith, ya listening to her???

  • I don't claim to be an angel..We all know what the song was really saying, Back in the 50's we couldn't say it. All that aside, countryhick said "what a voice". I just cracked a bottle of blue light on the bow of my rowboat and hollered HERE HERE!

  • This is the woman who inspired Patsy, Loretta, Tammy, Dolly, and Reba.........Those are the true Queens of Country music......I guess that makes Kitty the Queen Mother....she's a titan of the CM genre.

  • One of my favorite Kitty Wells songs and this vid is so great.

  • I've never been a big country fan , but lately i've discovered hank snow and kitty wells . well, ya'll can keep the rest ,but those two got it going , for real.

  • loretta lynn wrote her songs on her songs. women's rights/thought/trials.

  • Kitty has to be an angel to sing like she does thanks for sharing love this song

  • WOW i am floor by her wholesome beauty look there is not much make up there and she can sing too...

  • Like many before me, I'm struck by the beauty of this great lady singer and the fantastic condition of the video. Kitty would have been 30 in 1949 and she doesn't look 30. She and my Dad will turn 90 a week apart the end of August. I've always loved her but now that I have watched this I'm madly in love. My wife of 48 years would understand.

    Glenn

    Fletch

  • My goodness what a voice , this little lady just knocks my socks off ! thank you .

  • Bang on the notes. Delivered with clarity and yet lots of feeling. Brilliant then and now.*****

  • This is much edgier than most country, that makes it much more real.

  • hi from australia, kitty is the best

  • GREAT

  • greetings from ireland! i dont know if she is the best but she is one of the best. patsy cline, loretta lynn, connie smith and kitty wells. they are the true queens. and i dont think all is lost im 23 and i grew up listening to american country music its the best. our country music obviouslt isent is good as american but if you have the time look up philomenia begely shes irish and i think shes good. enjoy. slan (bye).

  • buspuss,i also think there are quite a few great irish singers.philomenia, margo, mary duff, kathy durkin as well as isla grant from scotland. johnny mcevoy.mick flavin, barry [farmer dan]doyle, mike denver to name a few.the list goes on and on. i love irish music.

  • Doesn't American country music have its roots in European folk styles? Irish music rocks!!

  • everybody to thier own oppinion but I still stand my groung She is the best

  • Fantastic

  • Set the stage for a life time of love

  • I have never seen her face before lord she was gorgeous

  • cmlbob;you make me laugh because you are so right.

  • In my books she is and always will be the queen of country music.

  • um, NO!

lroetta lynn beats her by a long shot!

  • if it wasn't for kitty wells lorreta lynn would.nt have a chance she paved the way

  • Imagine..........a time when Country Ladies could sing simple songs filled with raw emotion and still be commercially viable!!! Wake up Gaylord and Opry!!! Dear God I miss this type of country music!!! I'm fed up with the trash they throw at us on the radio's today!! Kitty Wells is the one true Queen and I've loved her music since my childhood in the sixties!! Great song by a great lady!!

  • Greetings from NYC. Kitty Wells is the True Queen of Country. I suspect the video is from the 1950's on the Opery. The Death of Country is a tremendus loss for our culture. WE must do all we can to preserve it's roots. Be well & God Bless, Lenny Waller NYC

  • While the title of Kitty's song in this "You Tube" video may be "I Don't Claim To Be An Angel," no angel has ever "delivered" country and western songs with greater emotion and feeling than the "Queen of Country Music," Kitty Wells. Roadwarrior3 could listen to KW's 24/7. As MojoPiano wrote in the comments below, Kitty Wells has always been THE BEST!

  • Does anyone know what year this was?

  • She was simply THE BEST! I am 57 years old and I have been listening to Kitty Wells recordings all of my life and I never get tired of them. I enjoy them just as much as I did when just a boy back in the mid 50s. We hear the term "legend" and "pioneer" tacked on to lots of artists, but Kitty TRULY earned and deserves the title. If anyone should get to wear the crown as "Queen of Country Music" it should be Kitty hands down! MoJoPiano

  • super

  • Kitty Wells is a Goddess!!!!!!There's absolutely no way another country singer male or female could or would ever compare to her. My only regret is that I wasn't born in an eariler time to have been able to see her perform live in her prime.

I listen to Kitty everyday. Whether I'm dressing for work, driving down the road or at the gym working out I either have Kitty playing on my Ipod or on Cd's that I've burnt!

  • i sure do wish it was now like it was back then.

  • She sure sings like an Angel. I was introduced to Kitty's music when was a kid. My father had the Decca 45 "Makin' Believe" . I played both sides a lot. She is a sweetheart. :)

  • Smooth as silk...notice how here eyes move around the room as if she's just sitting at home stringing her guitar without a care in the world. Kitty Wells is a genuine classic performer.

  • How sweet...

  • It is great to see this vintage clip of the great KITTY WELLs and in such great condition...both the singer and the clip...thank you countryhickOHIO...

  • To wilmaoman: Mine is 42. Dreadnought45 refers to a Martin guitar model D-45 although I play a Martin D-28 Marquis.

  • to dreadnought45 42 or 45 close i can't play anything not even an air instrument my singing would set the dogs to howling. but i LOVE to listen happy to know others who share my interest.

  • previous to dreadnought45. is 45 your birth year? just asking it's mine

  • What A Great Clip this is. Thanks for this.

  • A real lady and oh so cute!

  • That was Jack Anglin, the other half of Johnny and Jack, who introduced Kitty. He was tragically killed in a car accident while driving to Patsy Cline's funeral.

  • how tragic!i knew she married his partner,i didn't know that' how he died.she's the greatest female country singer to this day

  • Thanks for posting this super lady...yes, STILL QUEEN OF COUNTRY MUSIC...and to find this video in color after all these years...Kitty and her husband, Johnny sound super together!

  • Kitty Wells was, remains, and will always be the First Lady of Country Music. Kitty delivers an absolutely great performance in this "Youtube" video. The great performers are the ones who effortlessly connect the lyrics of their songs to and with their audience. Kitty Wells is Number One with roadwarrior3

  • What a voice, indeed. Was that her husband, Johnny Wright, who introduced her?

  • No, it was th late Jack Anglin

  • thanks for the video.

  • Isnt she just great? She can sing. And pretty too.

  • Still the queen of country music...

  • The great Shot Jackson on steel.

  • Lord, this is a wonderful performance. Kitty at her best. And love that steel too. Doesn't get any better than this.

  • she is still alive check out her website

  • if you subscribe to those search terms if they are posted you'll see them in your 'my subscriptions' area of your utube account

    :)

  • One of the greatest of all time.

  • Wasn't she just the greatest!

  • I agree Dyka1, The idiots running Radio Stations just want all of us to listen to the trash that only they like.

  • Why can't record producers find us singers like this. It is obvious there is still a big market - this has been viewed over 5000 times

  • What a singer and the steel player has got it to.

  • This is real Country Music and it is gone forever!

  • she ought to claim to be an angel cause she was one!

  • take a good look folks-THE ORIGINAL QUEEN OF COUNTRY, along with patsy cline

  • What about Molly O Day she was out there laying down some great songs before Kitty or Patsy even though kitty and Patsy are both among my favotites.

  • I agree, they dont make singers as talented as this. What a wonderfull song.

  • This is great, I hope someone finds and posts more Kitty Wells songs! Like 'It wasn't god who made honky tonk angels', 'this white circle', 'I gave my wedding dress away', 'amigo's guitar', 'heartbreak usa'...that would be awesome!

  • God,she was so beautiful and her voice too, great performance from the queen of Country Music!

  • they don't make them like this anymore (10.50pm au time)

  • I wish we had singers like this today...

  • As a new Kitty Wells fan, thanks for this great video, amazing.
