  • You remind me of Mitch hedberg

  • @mootbooxle yeah dude i know what you mean when me and my friends get together to jam and record the sessions i had to trim my 12 piece down to about a 6 so i took away like all of my tops cause i didn't have enough mics haha but keep at it dude ur really good!

  • Dude badass intro lol but do u have a full drum set? And if so how many pieces cuz ur fucking good!

  • @ZackDunlapGaming thanks man! Yeah, I have a full kit. This is not even my kit - you can see part of my Rogers kit in my newest video. Can't set up the whole kit in my small studio space, but it's an 8-piece kit altogether. I miss having all those drums sometimes, but it's a lot easier to record a small kit!

  • Thanks. What is your profession?

  • @keylinman Thank you! You are looking at my profession. I produce recordings, compose and arrange music for TV/film/theatre, play in three bands, and teach private lessons. Hit me up if I can teach you!

  • Is there an instrument, you can´t play??

    Very good stuff!

  • a proper groovesmith . friking great

  • This beat deserves nobel prize for funk

  • @mykol4s yo, there needs to be a Nobel Prize for the Funk, no joking. Heh heh. I can think of about a dozen cats that I'd nominate RIGHT away.

  • That's was up man...funky rhythms/patterns

  • Why are you so Damn Groovy?

  • man, i never have seen ur new videos, only seen the old. U're so fat now, dude! what the fuck happened?

  • "It gives you a nice FAHHHHHHH!"

  • LOVE your feel man, excellent. A gram of groove is worth like an ounce of chops.

  • @lethalvenom888 Preciate that! I agree with you, chops is good and all, but if you wanna move mind AND booty, you gotta groove. I used to be a crazy chops drummer! As time goes by I just appreciate good groove most of all though. Then, when you pull out some chops, it really MEANS something, knamean?

  • Man you are amazing! You make those drums sound brilliant just by knowing how to play properly! And im not saying your drums are bad or anything, I just dont know what they are! You're so funky man, I could listen to you all day!

  • I dont care what anyone says you are better than Cobus Potgieter by a lot u made that little shit set sound like a million bucks

  • @rcboatdriver1234 Preciate that man! One question: who the heck is Cobus Potgieter?

  • @mootbooxle Look him up he's a pretty well known drummer on utube

  • @mootbooxle wow i never realized it but the one is where its at on the kick i used to do that then i started tryin to do all the fancy stuff in the kick but now its much better to be fancy up top and kep it on the one and sometimes 3

  • love it!♥

  • My feet and hands are all locked together! how do I break em apart?

  • The guitar at the begining sounds just like JB's give it up or turn it loose

  • @nerdlinger92 ding ding ding! you got it! Just a little tip of the hat to the originator of THE ONE, James Brown! It was only right, you know?

Do you know "Rock Creek Park" by the Blackbyrds? They did their thing with that guitar riff too, although it's changed a little bit.

  • Your videos are great. What hi hat are you using? also, i like this drum bass sound lol

  • @hirocaster thank you! I think the hats I was using in this vid were some crappy Sabian B8 hi hats that were lying around...I kinda dig the sound though, it really cuts. It wouldn't be good for all styles, but it suits stuff like Funk and breaks. I like that boomy kick sound too! Part of that is the room I did this in...it's a big classroom, real live sounding. The hard compression I put on the recording accentuates the room reverb.

  • love your bo diddly face!!xx

  • Wow dude you got sick? One helluva disease man.

Haha I just love all your videos man, keep making them man!

  • Tear it up Moot!

  • Dued You GOT BIG

  • @gabemurphy71 yessir I did. Got sick. Months and months of steroid megadoses :(

I've lost 25 pounds since this video was made though!

  • Lefty drummer here, Moot! Phat, Phat grooves, man...good job.

  • That intro tune reminds me something that would be on a funked out version of Sesame Street. :D

  • this looks so 80's style! its awesome

  • Dude, you're awesome!

  • I like this! But Moot, put a pillow in da KiCk.

  • @CoOlTy3000 what, you don't like big boomy kicks?

  • @mootbooxle Moot, you are a FUNK playa! Need I say more? (LOL) Love ya man...

  • what is the name of the intro song?

  • where can I get it?? It's soooo FUNKY

  • is that intro your own song?

  • Yes it is :-)

  • maybe it's just on the 1 if you're playing in 2/4. otherwise it's 1 and 3.

  • You're technically right, as far as the patterns I'm playing in this vid. But the whole concept of the ONE is more than just technique. It's an approach to rhythm, emphasizing the first downbeat of each measure as the most important beat. THE ONE IS THE KEY TO THE FUNK!

  • I've been playing in funk bands for over

30 yrs. You the Man !

  • Moot, really helpful! More ghost note tutorials would be awesome. They can really fill up a groove.

    Great work Mr. Booxle

  • Thank ya! I will be on it...the next drum video I make will deal more with ghost notes, fo sho!

I agree, ghost notes can take a really simple groove to a whole 'nother level. I've actually been trying to use them less lately though, because I used to overuse them. That was a direct result of listening to Billy Cobham, Lenny White, Narada Michael Walden, and Bill Bruford nonstop growing up.

  • It's solid work man! Come over and be my drummer :D

  • @jonutarr i think it sounds lush.

  • Keep it on the one baby. The only thing though is try to avoid that one on jazz. The philosophy of jazz is to escape the one. It's about the ands and e's and a's.

  • @ladybird101 What???

  • moot that was awesome! really helpful too, i wanna play drums so bad!

  • With "&fmt=18" it does take longer to load so you might be right. And you're not the only one who's not been on here in a while. The crashing economy has me doing other things.

  • whats the intro song?

  • He made it himself man. And it's pretty groovy too!

  • Dude. Was NOT expecting that. Then BAM, you busted out a sweet ass funk beat packed with soul. Love it.

I nearly boned my speakers at 3:20 - i'll transcribe that.

4:53 - another fat beat. How did you learn and practise these grooves. I'm really into this stuff atm.

    Cheers man.

    Alex

  • Great video!!! Love the snare bro.

    Keith

  • i was not expecting this moot. wow.. i really wasnt

  • ... just awesome. Loved your keyboard stuff - didn't know you were so multi-talented man!

  • Moot yer sick bro,

is there any instrument you cant play. you are extremely musical. as someone else said the intro song give you 5 stars already.

    Keep em komming!

  • good to see another lefty out there :D I'm grooving the ghost notes gotta work on the buzz or drag. Helps when my snare skin reaaal tight..Ill work on it. Thanks for the motivation!.

  • you got a great feel for the set, great talent man. Thanks for the vid.

Question I'm lookin to use some of these runs for some hip-hop stuff I'm doing and I just bought a set. Matter of fact I also just bought a Shure SM7B as well.

My question is is that all you used really to mic the set? sounded great. If so what was the position you had it set at?

Thanks for the help, sorry to bug you man, again thanks for these vids

  • not to be an ass or mean n e thing by this but dude you gaind some pounds what happend?

  • LONG story. Basically I had a lot of health problems last year (one reason I was M.I.A.) that caused me to have to take steroids for several months, and they blowed me up like a toad! And made me eat, eat, eat everything...gained 30 lbs!

Working on getting rid o that...

  • The intro song alone gets you 5 stars.

  • Nice! I definitely lack terminology here but can you try a shuffle with overtaking first bass drum stroke, I mean first stroke that falls on the last 8th of the previous bar, to funk things up :) Cheers.

  • Peace! That's a cool trick - I definitely know what you're talking about, anticipating the downbeat on the kick. That's kind of a Harvey Mason / Mike Clark / Bill Bruford type of approach! I used to play more jazzy syncopated like that, but eventually settled into a (more funky IMO) style where something (usually the kick) always falls on the ONE, just like on James Brown records.

  • well you're just a man of many talents! want to give me some of your spare keyboard talent? :p

  • Awesome stuff man. Keep 'em comin. Maybe do some kind of video where you're playin all the instruments, and cut the video back and forth between footage of you playin each part etc, somethin funky in true moot style.

  • Really funky beat that's hard to beat and a great Southern accent to go with it.

  • You use to be nasty and skinny, now your sexy and voluptuous, mmm.

    Subscribed

  • ROFL!!!!!!!

  • Do the world a favor and never stop playing the drums. EVER!

  • No danger of that, LOL!!

  • Great work Sir. Your smootness and groove is very Bernard Purdie/porcaro. keep up the good work =)

  • You feel me for sure! Two of my greatest influences. The first drum video I ever got was by Jeff Porcaro, when I was 11. Changed my life.

  • You're a switch-handed drummer? Awesome! I'm also a natural-born lefty who plays switch-handed. I usually play right-handed. but I do about 92-98% of my fills left-handed.

  • yeah yeah yeah..you keep it honest.:0)

  • genial mi amigo Moot hace mucho tiempo que no te veia, al parecer ahora daras clases de musica, es genial saber eso porque siempre pense que eras bueno con los instruentos.

siempre has contado con mis 5 estrellas

  • You da dope man!!!

    Nice intro.

  • Jesus Christ man. I hate you!!! It's unfair how much funk you have swimmin through those veins of yours. My favorite part is when you say "im sorry, I couldn't resist". Please keep these coming and what's up with just a straight up drum solo vid? I found myself wanting to hear you go off on those things without interruption. Peace...Chris B.

  • Never mind. I just watched both of your Moot on the drums vids. Nasty!!!

  • Moot! You are too funky fo yo own good bruh! lol Love it man truly! Finally made a talkbox and it sounds pretty good! Keep doin yo thang!

  • Moot, you are too funky fo' yo' own good bruh! lol Love it!!!!!! finally made my talkbox and it sounds pretty good. Keep doin yo thang!

  • Man you'v got such a groove its mad...

Moot why arent you on TV and touring in stadiums?

    Love your musicality

  • Wow, I used to follow Moot when I was soooo into the analog synth thing (still am). I had no idea he did drums too. Just in time for me as now have a set. This cat can lay it down.

  • dude, i gained weight

  • Great to see you back! Your drum lessons are awesome. Just in time for me, since i'm considering getting a drumset. My neighbours wouldn't like it much though. I'm thinking about a TD12, that would work a little better with the people living around me ;)

  • seriously!! helllll yes! M00t doing drum lessons.. nice mang

  • Great intro. Cool Tutorial too.

  • You are amazing!! And the sound and look of that kit is just perfect. I've probably said it before on one of your other videos I think. I could listen to that hi-hat all day hahaha.

I'd love to see you do a multi-track type of video where you record a nice funk groove with your drums, bass and guitar and maybe a synth/rhodes keyboard.

  • Thanks so much! Don't you think a good hi-hat sound is like the key to the groove? I swear nothing can kill a groove faster than a bad hi-hat or ride sound. And as to the multi-track thing - I'm working on that ;-)

  • Definitely! I think the hi-hat sound and its rhythm is the most important part of a groove. I especially love to hear the hi-hat switching it up every now and then and adding all kinds of syncopated accents to build tension.

  • it sounds very well!!

  • nice man!

  • great vid as always man,

    ur crazy

  • keep it funky

keep it on the one :)

    Great video - thanks Moot

  • Fantastic... very helpful. Thanks Broham.

  • Thank you so much, Moot. Much better than I expected, and that's hard to believe. :)

  • after you said just due the one and every thing eles will take care of its self it sounded like dani california

  • I love that groove. Chad Smith is a master of funk rock! I guess mine kinda sounds like a swung version of that. ;-)

  • At the beginning of 1:44 it sounded like the Blood Hound Gang from one of their songs.

  • why are you so goddamn funky

  • excellent vid Moot! in the words of Dave Matthews at the end of the two step 'that is some funky s*$%^'

  • Ha! This is great Matt, as always your teachings are very good. I almost forgot how damn good of a percussionist you were! Keep the videos up, maybe it's time for "Explosion" on the drums ~_^

    Rock, Rock on.

  • Thanks man!

    Nice to hear from you!

Yeah, sooner or later I might just put one of those show-off videos up here, but well, it's not my favorite thing to do. But eventually, probably.

    Riggidy roll!!

  • that was fuckin cool

  • Yeah, you are talented! Good luck man & keep it up! :)

  • great stuff! You kind of remind me of a southern Mitch Hedberg. lol

  • hahaha...I get Mitch Hedberg a lot. No problem here, I think he was hilarious! But in a way, it seems like he kinda had a southern accent, just the way he said certain words. Where was he from anyway? ....goes to Google....

  • You are the man, old friend

  • Thanks Travo!!

  • Great video but you need a mic for when you talk...intro music and drums were at the proper levels but I could hardly hear you talk. Good to see yet another video from ya.

  • You are absolutely right. For whatever reason I decided against using another mic at the last minute. When I was mastering the audio I realized that would have been a good idea. Oh well...next time I'll do that, or go to the trouble of riding the gain when I mix....good call tho.

  • you're the man

  • You smoked something before recording this didn't you?

  • I'm not a drummer, but this is great for trying to learn good drum programming too!

  • nice intro song!!

  • You're a genius, Moot!

  • nice stuff. now use your talkbox on the drums haha

great recording with that shure btw

  • thanks! I thought that big Shure would probably do a good job picking everything up, especially since I was going for a raw funky sound. I did some EQ and a TON of compression in post.

  • Good to see you back on the scene like a record machine, Moot!

  • "the rhythm of vision is a dancer,

and when he dance, it's always on the one."

Mr. Wiggles, right? Good to hear from you my friend! It's nice to be back on the scene!

  • On the one, Moot! You're right!

  • Damn, my attempt at being pseudo-awesome failed miserably.
