Actually, I liked the music for this game, especially stage 2. However, what drove me nuts was the voice acting and the constant radio chatter. I get it that that's the way Silpheed is, but if they'rejust going to mumble their dialogue without subtitles, then they need to shut up!
The narrator's voice sounds like the voice of Alucard from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (the original PS1 version, not the re-dubbed version on PSP).
@Roxas0987654321 Actually there is much variation in his voice. If you want extreme variation, check out his reviews from 2010-2011, Mark sounds like he had 6 cups of coffee before doing the reviews. It should suit you well. I personally think he sounds too commercial or too much like other reviewers now. I would be much happier if he went back to this style because I like laid back reviews, not hyper active ones where someone sounds like they shot up with speed before doing a review.
@deadlygroove1 I agree, i enjoy it when game reviewers are not all pumped up and sound like there in some Commercial. In this case it just seems like Mark was not enjoying what he was doing or the game he was playing... a good talker that i like to watch and you might like too is TotalHalibut or his more common name Totalbiscut.
Shame on you Mark, how could you say this game was any good. This game is TERRIBLE! Slow, clunky, too easy, god-awful graphics, forgettable music.
I love shmups. Under Defeat is my fav game, and I own almost all Dreamcast shooters and have had a few saturn and megadrive ones, but this is simply atrocious.
Of course the soundtrack sucks. Around this time, Working Designs was seriously hemorrhaging money due to their unwillingness to develop for other platforms due to a feud between WD's Victor Ireland and Sony's Bernie Stolar . WD's move to Sony only happened because Stolar was picked up by Sega.... Or you can blame it on their expensive packaging, since most of their games were either only deluxe releases or came in foil-stamped cases. Either way, they made some awesome games.
i am trying to remember a game quite like this all i can recall is tow giant squids disguised as alies coming out and distroing me on the 2nd lvl got eny ideas
I am aware of a game creator called Shoot'em Up Construction Kit. It permits anyone to create a Shoom style game without having to know programming. Sadly, it's 22 years outdated and runs on tech too weak for Wind Squid's needs. Update this software and we've got something.
I appreciate the effort you put into these reviews but I own this game and it's not that good. This, just like the remake of 1942 is way too slow. My copy has been sitting on the shelf collecting dust for years now. I liked the graphics and cut scenes but not the gameplay. I'd give this a 3 out of 10.
after Wind Squid, nothing will be the same any more. we will all be wearing ironing boards for hats, and sing the National Wind Squid Anthem, a song with 30,000 different words, set to a fugal version of the Benny Hill theme song. after Wind Squid, mankind can finally leap forward and begin its next evolutionary stage. i will bow for you, Wind Squid god. i will bow.
I am currently developing a scrolling shooter called Air Shrimp. One of my bosses is gonna be a robot merman except instead of a fish tail, he will have a machine gun. Also, he will have big breasts because sex sells. Maybe he should be a merMAID...I gotta go.
Good idea, make sure one of the bosss batlles is just a cruedly drawn picture of a sea rinosaurus that shoots baby deer at you from its eyes. It only makes sence
Yeah, Starwars had that all figured out lol, I look forward to the battle with yourself, and the boss battle with XxXZamonXxXRageXxXMarshmellowLaserBallsZZZZZZZBBQ

How to take down energy field surrounding a planet or moon:
1) steal a shuttlecraft from the enemy
2) land on the planet
3) be friend of a bunch of children in furry outfits
4) go after the shield generator with rocks, stones, a couple of sticks with rocks (actually attached to them)
