  • the pot is too high

  • youve got some very nice trees in the bakground

    bonsai??

  • dude i don't get its its not even melting anything l m a o

  • needs a lid

  • what kind of charcoal do you use for this furnace?

  • Its common vegetable coal.

  • and u can melt iron with your furnace or only aluminum?

  • This is not a blast furnace OR a forge. This is a regular melting furnace.

Blast furnaces smelt ore. Forges heat metal(usually steel) to be worked.

  • I used this name, because in the Gingery books, its refered as a Blast Furnace. I think you are right a blast furnace needs ores and fluxes.

  • this is a forge, not a blast furnace.

  • its not even melting

  • do they use iron oxide in blast furnaces? ? ?? ?

  • hmmm... hot like me... :P

  • Cool. I was thinking on just making a hole in the ground for now. What do you use as a blower? A simple vac? I have one I got out of an upright that blows pretty hard but I will be using a home made bellows that may take a little longer but what the hell. How many times do you have to refill the charcoal (if at all) for that size crucible? Looks like a 16 oz. propane bottle there. Does it make smoke when its lit or smell like smoke at all?

  • Hi

I use a vacum as a blower. For air regulation, I made a hole in the hose that connects the vacum to the furnace. Then I added some tape to get the required air volume.

In a normal melt I refill de furnace once.

When the charcoal begins to burn, it makes some smoke. When its hot and running, it burns nice without smoke.

  • What is that made of? Portland cement or refractory cement? Is that burner right in the middle or is it just an airtube with charcoal

? If so, how do you rate its efficency?

  • Its made of comon cement and yello sand. Its an air tube with charcoal. I don't rate the efficency. If it melts aluminium its ok.

  • invest into a lid it will make the melts quicker , keeps in more heat which equals in less cost in fuel
