Okay so for @fatlikeraisins i think most parts of this hospital or basically whats left of this hospital is Legally functioning today and for the High black fence you were talking about its for the "criminaly" insane so yeah you could say that part is like a jail
@Jaws, as far as I know, as I live within walking distance to the facility, certain portions are still functioning. Others, however, are pretty much "Off limits" unless you're lucky enough to sneak inside and grab some nice footage such as this. ;)
When I first read that sign I thought it said "Taun Taun Hospital". I thought maybe Han Solo should have taken his there when it froze to death on Hoth!
okay so a couple of weeks ago i went to taunton state hospital and there were a lot of cars parked and i saw people entering one of the buildings? is it still functioning? i noticed some fire damage on the windows of some parts of the building but it didn't look abandoned at all? just out of curiosity does anybody know what's the deal? also that big building that is surrounded by the huge fenced in lawn? what's that building used for? looked like a prison fence
@fatlikeraisins one part is turned into a place called howland and its a lock up facility for minors, went there as a kid a couple times and even that building is scary as hell
@fatlikeraisins. Have a look on an urban-exploration site named derelicte.co.uk. Look for the Merrifield kids unit in Taunton. Myself, and other survivors of that death hole have posted some of our experiences. x
why do we not try and see that old buildings such as this one (you can tell the detail and workmanship put into it) be renevated into appartment complexes or community centers? i think there should be a law making owners utilize the land and buildings in a productive way or loose all rights to the property after so many years. nit is a shame that these ols structures are abandoned and left to rot liek they have no purpose.
@bduhe219 Really? I wouldn't want to rent a place where people were electricuted & given god knows what treatments. The state will never let out what really happened there. I went one time for an AA meeting in support of a friend & had to leave at break 1/2 way through. I like ghost stuff, but I couldn't stay! WOW the hair stood up on the back of my neck the whole time. I agree totally that buildings should be kept up and used instead of wasting good structure and new land, but NOT that place!!
I lived just down the street from this place when I was a kid from 1960-1968. YES creepy is the word for it...but you could use it as a short cut to get to a street on the other side. My dad would drive thru on a regular basis. I live on Hodges Avenue. My 2 sisters can attest to things that happened on that street...I have never gone into nor wanted to go into Taunton State Hospital.
Taunton in Somerset England also had a big derelict Victorian asylum hospital.
"Tone Vale Hospital" now renamed " Cotford St Luke ".
It was turned in to apartments, the chapel a restaurant, some out buildings in to a shop, & the grounds had a new but old looking village built around it.
A shame they didn't save the US Taunton Hospital building it looked great.
@askinlad Taunton hospital also had a kids one called Merrifield. It was a death-hole. Even as late as 1991, there were things going on there that no kid should ever see. x
very cool place my parents worked hear before i was born in 84 live right up the road but Paul Dever hospital is much cooler underground tunnels the works
If i was to walk through this building i would feel more sad than scared because i would be thinking of all the children and adults who were left here because of some form of mental handicap.
I grew up rite near this place &when I was a kid,me &my friends used to play on the TSH grounds. We used to walk up to that building but never had the balls to go in.That place was fuckin creepy
I was watching this vid, then my mom walked in and was like " Hey, ive been there b4", lol.... She use to observe there in college... Man i wish i could have visited this place b4 it was torn down, so much history gone.
My cousin was a patient there years ago, he is in a group home now. I see him once a month and if he feel`s he did something wrong he will cry out 'dont take me to taunton'. How that one place affected so many.
Ive worked overnight shift here for 10 years and haven't seen any ghosts yet, although I know someone who works in one of the buildings who found a 100 year old brain in a jar during the construction going on there! if those walls could talk
me and my friends always wnet in here when we were kids and i can tell you this place is haunted at least these people dident hear the screams and the verry sad crying of a woman
Great footage.Beautiful building. They don't put that kind of effort into modern architecture. We have 4 Kirlbride mental hospitals here in Iowa. They are all in perfect condition, and three of them are still in full operation. In case you want to look them up on line they are Cherokee, Clarinda, Mount Pleasant, and Independence. Independence was only recently closed but they are using it again for womens' prison overflow and an abused youth shelter I believe. This place is cooler than Buffalo.
my dad is salvaging parts of the building and is taking me along. i am pumped to check out the buildings, maybe the basements if i grow some balls first
This was taken months AFTER the big fire. The whole building did NOT burn down. There are/were several buildings on this site. I live about 2 miles from here but never been to it!!!!
