why are people hating on throned in blood? I think its one of the best metal albums in recent years. As an album, it just feels really unique, but more importantly, it stays true to itself
When i saw them play live for the first time (years ago) i was blown away, and bought all their albums. I was mortified when i listened to the albums. Although I enjoy most of the songs (now), its like two separate bands. They should have live albums along with each studio. New album rips though.
"Less melodic & more noise art than... in the past." Sadly, IMO anyway, that's the story of the last decade of their existence as a band. Early LPs aside (because even those weren't supposed to be vintage Jucifer, esp. as far as live performances went) they're just getting worse & worse. Faster & faster instead of heavier. Heard what was supposed to be their new album the other night- just terrible, if it's even them, can't be sure anymore. BTW I grew up in Athens, seen em probably 30+ times...
@7H353U5 I love their noise art approach when live. But I find a lot of their recorded material unlistenable (what I've heard), though the same stuff live is superb. What LP would you most recommend I check out? I'll do it.
@superround There's definitely nothing like em live, that's why the heavy feeling in their sound can't even really be captured on record. The Lambs, & War Bird (separate) EP's are by far the closest they ever came to capturing the essence of Jucifer on disc. Their 1st album was almost pop at times, IIRC Ed said it was the soundtrack to a screenplay he'd been writing. I dont want to crap on a band that was once my all time fave, but their focus on fast thrash instead of heavy turned me off : /
@7H353U5 I've been listening all all of their albums for a few months. Really like all of it. Saw them live tonight in Austin. Was very disappointed. I could hardly recognize any of the songs. The volume was ridiculous. She didn't sing much at all and seemed to be actually playing to recording of herself screaming.
I'd much rather here them play something intelligible.
Ha, you're funny, obviously not into this sort of music. Or are you in a metal band and jealous these guys are awesome and people love their shows? I'm sure you and your nephew could make noise, but would anyone think it was worth a damn?
wre playin volume 11 on 6-15-09 opening for state of insomnia and im the new bassist thought id respond with some fellow NC METAL SCENE shit keep it brutal!
I was at this show. Bummed they didn't have any real merch for sale, but god damn were they awesome. Probably the most intense performance I've seen in a long time, and definitely the loudest band I've seen live. Got some awesome pics too!
They probably don't actually turn them to 11. Most bass amplifiers will start shorting out/clipping at 2/3 volume--They'd blow them real fast if they turned up all the way.
my buddy toured with them i met them a couple weeks ago absolute sweethearts they're wonderful you think jusgt a guitar and drums would suck but they do it so authentically that its an amazing experience

Agree
let ignorants close their minds to refuse to consider or acknowledge music and art.
and of course kids...lol
the fact is that they exist..music like jucifer does exist for a reason..and I can only say thanks to those ignorants who think jucifer sucks
it makes it even better when people(kids) say it ..^^

JUCIFER Live: 1 guitar. 1 drums. 2 gods of rock. 40 guitar amps. Every single one turned to 11.
[In case you couldn't tell, "Amplifier" starts at 1:30.]

She isn't playing a bass, it's true. But those are Ampeg bass amplifiers.
You wouldn't play low frequencies like this through a guitar amp. That would pretty much blow the speaker instantly.
