I so remember this bit from the books ^^ pretty different to how I imagined it.. I appreciate that they've had a go at putting them on screen, but I'd say the genius of the Hitchhikers' Guide can only really come through in Douglas Adams' amazing writing.
I do like the film though, as a film in its own right rather than a book adaptation.

@737Wow Yes but all the actors in this are really old now, i dought they would do it and the new cast would be rubbish... better just to watch this and enjoy it.
Douglas Adams was a comedian writer, and also wrote serious science fiction for Doctor Who; and Adams attempted to make it as adult as possible, the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy remake needed to another look at everything, to enter the 21st century maturity: We make the 1970s look tame.
this marvin sucks. he's actually TOO depressed. makes him monotone and hard to understand. marvin in my head was a little more human. I mean he did express something vaguely resembling contentment once every couple centuries.
and why is Trillian a total bimbo? she was supposed to be pretty inteligent. stupid tv sexism.
@MegaAdmiralAckbar Nope. That was Jack May. He was also Igor in Count Duckula, Théoden in the radio version of the Lord of the Rings, and too many other bits of radio and television to mention.
@JamesThWilliams The macheans are prograed to express a sutint leval of joy based on the percinteg of function they preform within there copasity. @LoneDragoon90 The Best Trillian ever and ever is, of course, Zooey Deschanel. Then again, she would be the best Amilia Earhart, Super Girl, or Darth Vader.
@DarkRw1995 Watch the scene in SUPERMAN III where this actress gets a grapefruit on her face. Or the director's cut of SUPERGIRL, where the vilainess forces her to swallow a scorpion before using her telekinesis on her. You'll feel better after that. :-D
The Marvin in the Movie version seems more like he is actually likable than just being a clunky, paranoid robot that speaks in a heavily edited human voice.
By the way, if nobody noticed, the movie actually used the original Marvin costume in the Vogon Customs Office scene.
Ford and Zaph talking about the ships lol - like young fellas talking about cars LOL!!! Marvin are you any good at clipping toenails? just kiddin. I clipped them yesterday. I know I know "ewww" hee hee! Marvin could you move me to another city? This one's too humid!!!
"There's a whole new life stretching out in front of you!"
"Not another one..."
I hear ya, Marvin... brain the size of a... slightly large brain, and they won't even LET ME pick paer off the floor, or say, "Would you like fries with that?"
@xxPatheticEmoxx This Marvin is more exasperating than depressed. The way he goes on and on about "you are just pretending to be interested in me" and ignores everything he is told, just gives you the urge to kick him in the nuts (and bolts).
@CharlieSpecs This Marvin! This Marivn that had a cameo in the film. How depressed he must have been to have seen that boring, bulbous bot playing his part.
My soul is harrow up, my blood frozen, my two eyes, like stars, start from their spheres, my knotted and combined locks to part and each particular hair to stand on end, like quills upon the fretful porpentine! The guy, Mark Wing-Davey, who plays Zaphod Beeblebrox has also played the Earl of Warwick in Henry VI, Part I to III, in the Shakespeare collection of the insidious British Broadcasting Corporation! This deserves an immediate Shakespeare quote:
WARWICK The wrinkles in my brows, now filled with blood, Were liken'd oft to kingly sepulchres; For who lived king, but I could dig his grave? And who durst mine when Warwick bent his brow? Lo, now my glory smear'd in dust and blood! My parks, my walks, my manors that I had. Even now forsake me, and of all my lands Is nothing left me but my body's length. Why, what is pomp, rule, reign, but earth and dust? And, live we how we can, yet die we must.
this is the best series of books EVER!!! im only 14 and i have read them all, watched the film, all of the TV series and heard all of the radio programmes!!!!!!! Marvin is just so sweet! :( :)
i'm in the end of the 3rd book, that one u said... hard to finnish.. it seems the editors told him: yeah, that nonsense u sai are really coll, continue that.... and he did, but with loads more alcohool in his brain than before! Just nonsense!

@Gabs984 Yep, Ford in that book was strange. He turned into Zaphod... In the first book he is intrigued by the death of the policemen, in the second he was the same but in the third all he wanted to do was go to a party and get drunk. Not like him at all.
Marvin the paranoid android is legend! Waiting an entire eternity and always doing his favourite sayings: "Brain of the seize of a planet..." & "Sounds awful"
@GreatGrumbledook he did not wait eternity since there is no end to that. i'm guessing you mean wait untill the end of the universe.
In that case I should like to point out that through time travel incidents marvin actually ends up several times older than the universe, and most of that time is in fact spent waiting around.
@NoTrueFace1: [due to the HAL 9000 mad computer phenomena I will make the answer via my new internet incarnation] If you do indulge into word hair-splitting you are of course right: As eternity is defined as an infinitive span of time, waiting until the end of the universe is not an eternity but if you think of eternity in terms of a very long time my statements remains valid; while you are wrong about Marvin: When no one is around he enjoys reading the philosophy of Hegel very much.

i find the movie is alot better than the show the movie is one of my favorite movies but i have to say the tv series sucks....movie did alot better dilivering the characters
no she doesnt the story was- douglas adams said that they needed a girl that people who completely hated science fiction would turn on the show just to see and drool at
it never made sense to me that they could travel through time and not space. That's an utter contradiction of Einstiens thoery of relativity, but seeing it's fictional and Douglas Adams, I can forgive that humongo scientific error.
not so. had they managed a way to convert their mass into pure energy, then somehow reconstitute themselves at Milliways - traveling at or near light-speed - they could have theoretically traveled through, say, one end of the universe, come back through the exact opposite end and have a nice dinner.
Marvin: "The first ten million years were the worst. And the second ten million--they were the worst, too. The third ten million I didn't enjoy at all. After that, I went into a bit of a decline. ['Poor old Marvin.'] It's the people you meet in this job who really get you down. The best conversation I had was over 34 million years ago. ['Oh, dear.' Crosses eyes.] And that was with a coffee machine."
This is one of my favorite parts--hilarious, brilliant.
I love this part in the book, at The Restaraunt at the End of the Universe. You should've gone back and put in the part with the happy-to be-suicidal cow! That would be awesome!
marvin's just like how he is in the film. a shame about how crappy looking and low budget this was. blue peter 'here's one i made earlier' rubbish.
i hope they make a sequel to the film. this is movie material i think.

They all look better in the new film cept Zaphod should have two heads on his shoulders and a proper thrid arm. Unlike the one's tucked into his body

no she doesnt the story was- douglas adams said that they needed a girl that people who completely hated science fiction would turn on the show just to see and drool at

she's too stereotypical "perfect blonde". Personally I find those types outright ugly, though that may be just because they are so overused.
Anyways, a Trillian with an actual personality and an equally hot bod woulda sold much better

hate the old "30's style blonde" type Trillian.

Coffee machines are interesting, they have all these buttons and do a variety of things depending on what you put in!

it never made sense to me that they could travel through time and not space.
