  • marvin's just like how he is in the film. a shame about how crappy looking and low budget this was. blue peter 'here's one i made earlier' rubbish.

i hope they make a sequel to the film. this is movie material i think.

  • I so remember this bit from the books ^^ pretty different to how I imagined it.. I appreciate that they've had a go at putting them on screen, but I'd say the genius of the Hitchhikers' Guide can only really come through in Douglas Adams' amazing writing.

I do like the film though, as a film in its own right rather than a book adaptation.

  • :^D hahaha Marvins awesome.

  • He phoned up to wash his head at us! :D x

  • How awesome is it that the top comment has 42 thumbs ups?!

  • @shaunmalley not anymore...

  • The bit with the waiter sliding the table to Zaphod gets me everytime "The phone sir,"

  • I think you ought to know Snape is depressed. :(

  • look at Ford after 2:04. Slowly gets board and wanders off... Also after the scean with Marvin Zaphod and Ford start going all Top Gear.

  • ...are here eyes crossed at 2:25? lol

  • Nuts they omitted the part where the universe ends.

  • yes, murdering trillian , then doing things to her unprotesting body.

  • My favourite line in all of the books... "I think you ought to know, i'm feeling very depressed" lol

  • I thought the shadows above his eyes were his eyes.

  • 4 people are dumb dumbs

  • They should make a show that follows exactly according to the book... From The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galay to Mostly Harmless.... (if necessary or demanded which i doubt it would... And Another Thing)......

  • @737Wow Yes but all the actors in this are really old now, i dought they would do it and the new cast would be rubbish... better just to watch this and enjoy it.

  • Douglas Adams was a comedian writer, and also wrote serious science fiction for Doctor Who; and Adams attempted to make it as adult as possible, the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy remake needed to another look at everything, to enter the 21st century maturity: We make the 1970s look tame.

  • This is the worst Trillian ever...

  • that black ship looks like crap...

  • In der Neuverfilmung sind viele teile aus dem alten film raus gelassen worden :\

  • He's parking cars dumb dumb!

  • Poor Marvin. =(

  • the four people who didn't like this were marvin's friends

  • Made by the BBC for 50p out of egg boxes and washing up bottles, like Blakes 7... Yet p**ses on the 2005 Hollywood abortion from a great height!

  • @EvilDrFish I liked both...

  • Was the waiter Richard Wilson?

  • @MegaAdmiralAckbar Nope. That was Jack May. He was also Igor in Count Duckula, Théoden in the radio version of the Lord of the Rings, and too many other bits of radio and television to mention.

  • "Hey Marvin, how you doin' kid?"

    "Very badly I suspect"

  • 4 people are so up-hip that their bums fall off

  • I'm not sure if Marvin is really depressed or if he craves negative attention.

  • @JamesThWilliams The macheans are prograed to express a sutint leval of joy based on the percinteg of function they preform within there copasity. Marvin is a multipurpis unit desined with 10 billean function, but only gits to use one at a time. That is basekly a glith they didn't think about when using the GPP protocal.

  • does any one thank that ford looks like ron weasley some what

  • Comment removed

  • marvin ssounds more EVIL!!!!!

  • What is that thing supposed to be? Not the robot, the blonde thing? Trillian? No way!

  • looks like a fish moves like a fish streers like a cow

    LOL

  • Anybody else feel like murdering this Trillian?

  • @DarkRw1995 Yeah - Susan Sheridan did a much better job on the original radio series.

  • @LoneDragoon90 The Best Trillian ever and ever is, of course, Zooey Deschanel. Then again, she would be the best Amilia Earhart, Super Girl, or Darth Vader.

  • @DarkRw1995 Actually, no. I feel like marrying this Trillian! It takes all sorts :-)

  • @DarkRw1995 i love the one in the phone

  • @beasst94 ZAPHOD?! ARE YOU SERIOUS!?

  • @DarkRw1995 Peter Davidson knows how you feel LOL

  • @Djarra Why him in particular?

  • @tic07096903 The actress playing Trillion was his wife at the time and they had a rather messy divorce.

  • @DarkRw1995 Watch the scene in SUPERMAN III where this actress gets a grapefruit on her face. Or the director's cut of SUPERGIRL, where the vilainess forces her to swallow a scorpion before using her telekinesis on her. You'll feel better after that. :-D

  • @DarkRw1995 Yea she is pretty damn annoying. She sounds like a phone receptionist.

  • marvin the android: suicide counselor to the stars....

    oy!:)

  • More like... emo android.

  • 0:03 - Did anyone else notice Ford's hand picking a flea off Arthur Dent's dressing gown?

  • LOL... Love Marvin... my fave character

  • god, i hate trillian in this.

  • the ultimate emo :P

  • The Marvin in the Movie version seems more like he is actually likable than just being a clunky, paranoid robot that speaks in a heavily edited human voice.

By the way, if nobody noticed, the movie actually used the original Marvin costume in the Vogon Customs Office scene.

  • Ford and Zaph talking about the ships lol - like young fellas talking about cars LOL!!! Marvin are you any good at clipping toenails? just kiddin. I clipped them yesterday. I know I know "ewww" hee hee! Marvin could you move me to another city? This one's too humid!!!

  • @toenails54321 here i am brain the size of planet, and i'm driving you to a new house. i'll doit but i wont enjoy it :(

  • I'll be down in two minuets ...that makes two of us..

  • Comment removed

  • My favourite Marvin lines were in the Radio programme. Arthur has a plan to escape a gun battle and he asks if everyone understands it

"You ask me, with a brain the size of a planet whether I understand"?

    "Yes or no"?

    "Guess"

  • omg, that marvin is so much better than the one in the movie!

  • Eric Idle play Zaphod right

  • @Snowdreamer100 Wrong. Mark Wing-Davey played Zaphod

  • "There's a whole new life stretching out in front of you!"

    "Not another one..."

I hear ya, Marvin... brain the size of a... slightly large brain, and they won't even LET ME pick paer off the floor, or say, "Would you like fries with that?"

Jobs- don't talk to me about jobs...

  • I don't know who is more depressing, this Marvin, or the one from 2005.

  • @xxPatheticEmoxx This Marvin is more exasperating than depressed. The way he goes on and on about "you are just pretending to be interested in me" and ignores everything he is told, just gives you the urge to kick him in the nuts (and bolts).

  • @xxPatheticEmoxx i like the one in the movie hes more pesemistic than depressed, the one on tv's also good but who just down beats everything.

  • Cool

  • I like how Marvin's eyes are built permanently droopy.

  • Watching this video really depressed me, I must say. Ohhhh dear.

  • Which is better? This Marvin or the film Marvin?

    Just wondering.

  • This Marvin!

  • @CharlieSpecs This Marvin! This Marivn that had a cameo in the film. How depressed he must have been to have seen that boring, bulbous bot playing his part.

  • who plays ford prefect here?

  • The third ten million I didn't enjoy at all, after that I went into a bit of a decline...

  • My soul is harrow up, my blood frozen, my two eyes, like stars, start from their spheres, my knotted and combined locks to part and each particular hair to stand on end, like quills upon the fretful porpentine! The guy, Mark Wing-Davey, who plays Zaphod Beeblebrox has also played the Earl of Warwick in Henry VI, Part I to III, in the Shakespeare collection of the insidious British Broadcasting Corporation! This deserves an immediate Shakespeare quote:

  • WARWICK The wrinkles in my brows, now filled with blood, Were liken'd oft to kingly sepulchres; For who lived king, but I could dig his grave? And who durst mine when Warwick bent his brow? Lo, now my glory smear'd in dust and blood! My parks, my walks, my manors that I had. Even now forsake me, and of all my lands Is nothing left me but my body's length. Why, what is pomp, rule, reign, but earth and dust? And, live we how we can, yet die we must.

  • Looks like a fish... moves like a fish... steers like a cow!

  • This is one of my favourite old shows, and I love Marvin. No matter how bad things are, his life makes me feel better. Poor guy. Heheh

  • marvin thats my existence summed up in a nutshell

  • "The first ten million years were the worst..."

  • Geez you guys are so unhip it's no wonder you're buns don't fall off.

  • this is the best series of books EVER!!! im only 14 and i have read them all, watched the film, all of the TV series and heard all of the radio programmes!!!!!!! Marvin is just so sweet! :( :)

  • Just finished reading the first book. Now I'm on Restaurant at the End of the Universe.

  • @cubano517 Easily the best book series I have ever read.

  • @cubano517 me to!

  • @cubano517 You probably want to stop after Life, The Universe, And Everything. The series kinda goes downhill from there.

  • @dantheman931 maybe before the middle of it!!!

i'm in the end of the 3rd book, that one u said... hard to finnish.. it seems the editors told him: yeah, that nonsense u sai are really coll, continue that.... and he did, but with loads more alcohool in his brain than before! Just nonsense!

bout that video... really cool.. Beeblebrox seems (phisicaly) more like it than in the new movie!

  • @Gabs984 Yep, Ford in that book was strange. He turned into Zaphod... In the first book he is intrigued by the death of the policemen, in the second he was the same but in the third all he wanted to do was go to a party and get drunk. Not like him at all.

  • @cubano517 me toooo! i'm at chapter 15 :)

  • @cubano517 i'm on mostly harmless

  • @exclusiveforus im on life the universe and everything

    favorite series ever XD

  • "This time there's gonna excitement and adventure and... really wild things."

    "Sounds awful."

  • "There's a whole new life stretching out in front of you!"

    "Oh, not another one."

  • @groovyastrodude

They left out the part where Marvin says, "I wish you'd just say so insead of tring to rais my inthuseasume cause I have non."

  • I can stick my head in a bucket of water... Is that what you'd like

  • I always liked the TV Ford, especially his horribly mismatched outfits. And Zaphod could really rock a mullet!

  • I was so sad when this got taken off youtube. Luckly enough I was able to watch the whole thing first.

  • You can stream it from netflix :)

  • "Marvin, can you pick up that piece of paper?"

  • I'm currently working on a short film explaining why you should ALWAYS have your towel!

  • if you read the book he explains how it could help you. in one of the chapters

  • I know, but I'm giving reasons that adapt TOWELS to your EVERYday LIFE!

  • oh ok, good luck!

  • Thank you, kind sir/madam, I only have to film one more reason!

  • yeah but Billie Piper dude, Billie freking Piper!

  • Comment removed

  • what about her?

  • How dare you insult the BBC classics! One word:

    Black...Add...er :P

  • fuduzan5562- What is it about the BBC you dislike so much? Too British for you?

  • lol, I just read the book

  • ... that makes two of us.

  • Marvin the paranoid android is legend! Waiting an entire eternity and always doing his favourite sayings: "Brain of the seize of a planet..." & "Sounds awful"

  • @GreatGrumbledook he did not wait eternity since there is no end to that. i'm guessing you mean wait untill the end of the universe.

In that case I should like to point out that through time travel incidents marvin actually ends up several times older than the universe, and most of that time is in fact spent waiting around.

All of it is spent complaining.

  • @NoTrueFace1: [due to the HAL 9000 mad computer phenomena I will make the answer via my new internet incarnation] If you do indulge into word hair-splitting you are of course right: As eternity is defined as an infinitive span of time, waiting until the end of the universe is not an eternity but if you think of eternity in terms of a very long time my statements remains valid; while you are wrong about Marvin: When no one is around he enjoys reading the philosophy of Hegel very much.

  • infinite sadness

  • movie was so great love the book so great

  • "The best conversation I had was 34 million years ago. And that was with a coffee machine."

  • I absolutely love this series :D the book and the radio show were were also amazing. The movie wasn't too bad, either :)

  • Zaphod Beeblebrox. "I'll be down in a minute!"

Marvin. " That make's two of us." LOL!!!!!!!!!!

I love Trillian's boobies. I don't know about you lot, but I didn't think much of the movie they came out with. This is far better.

  • Did Trillian go cross-eyed at 2:24? It looks like she did.

  • Most definitely!

This series was SO much better than the movie, IMO.

  • Would you like me to stick my head in a bucket of water then?

    BEST BOOK EVER!!

  • ...

I must say that the movie was done much better than this. But to each his own I suppose : /

  • im not getting you down am i?

  • i absolutely love marvin... he's a character one can relate to

  • I dressed up as him today for 'Book Day' because I'm that cool.

  • he's a character that people whit really tragic mental problem will relate to but sure...

  • Why dos friction mater whene your in space?

  • "Hey, Marvin! C'mon over, we've got a job for you!"

    "I won't enjoy it."

"Yes, you will! Tere's a whole new life stretching out infront of you!"

    "Oh, not another one..."

Well, that's Marvin for ya. ^^

  • you can see this marvin in the new movie when they are saving the girl

  • Only the head is the same though. The body is slightly sleeker and more detailed because they lost the original..

  • Lol XD "parking caaaars.... what else does one do in a caaar paaaark" lmao

I prefer the voice of Marvin in this one xD

  • This version was better than the movie in every respect except for the low budget effects, although the even Guide's graphics were better in this.

  • im wiling to ignore the crappy sfx bcuz it is hg2g

  • "I'll be down in a minute"

    "That makes two of us."

    Ha ha!

  • "I'm in the carpark."

"What are you doing in the carpark?"

    "Parking cars..."

  • if he's manicly depressed y is he never manic??

  • Trillian was better in the new movie, but that's just my opinion.

  • same. all sandra dickinson did was stand and look pretty

  • yes Zooey Deschanel's performance is better than the tart above

  • Ford Prefect was the best here<333 I love him!

  • I second that! Ford Forever!

  • Well he's my husband! haha! I call dibs!

  • Dibs?

  • onafictionalcharacter

  • the new marvin is more like i thinke he wold look like but this guy is good to

  • cant compare this piece of gold with the 2005 ordinary movie..this is pure cult

i love this marvin btw, nothing like the new one :)

  • This is based on the book Restaurant at the End of the Universe.

  • They all look better in the new film cept Zaphod should have two heads on his shoulders and a proper thrid arm. Unlike the one's tucked into his body

  • also this Trillian sucks.. nothing like the book Trillian :(

  • no she doesnt the story was- douglas adams said that they needed a girl that people who completely hated science fiction would turn on the show just to see and drool at

  • she's too stereotypical "perfect blonde". Personally I find those types outright ugly, though that may be just because they are so overused.

Anyways, a Trillian with an actual personality and an equally hot bod woulda sold much better

  • hate the old "30's style blonde" type Trillian.

  • FINALLY one that is actually true to the books!

    Not like the 2005 one...

  • I don't think it's possible to put the books to film accurately.. yet, at least xD

  • Coffee machines are interesting, they have all these buttons and do a variety of things depending on what you put in!

  • A coffee machine???? You're just a depressed as me sometimes!!

    lol

  • it never made sense to me that they could travel through time and not space. That's an utter contradiction of Einstiens thoery of relativity, but seeing it's fictional and Douglas Adams, I can forgive that humongo scientific error.

  • GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!

  • not so. had they managed a way to convert their mass into pure energy, then somehow reconstitute themselves at Milliways - traveling at or near light-speed - they could have theoretically traveled through, say, one end of the universe, come back through the exact opposite end and have a nice dinner.

  • Marvin: "The first ten million years were the worst. And the second ten million--they were the worst, too. The third ten million I didn't enjoy at all. After that, I went into a bit of a decline. ['Poor old Marvin.'] It's the people you meet in this job who really get you down. The best conversation I had was over 34 million years ago. ['Oh, dear.' Crosses eyes.] And that was with a coffee machine."

This is one of my favorite parts--hilarious, brilliant.

  • I love this part in the book, at The Restaraunt at the End of the Universe. You should've gone back and put in the part with the happy-to be-suicidal cow! That would be awesome!

  • Anyone know where I can watch this entire series?

  • the radio series was better

  • Hilarious.
