  • that mk1 golf left him for dust LOL

what happend to this racing in bham?

  • Nice to see. Car seems to be a shade long legged. Sounds lovely. Thanks for sharing!

  • Used to love the Brum races. Awesome stuff.

  • Government put a stop to this due to people complaining about the money and noise pollution e.c.t i watched this with my dad wow 21 years have gone quick.

  • That little Sunbeam Stilletto showed him a clean pair of heals!!

  • Yeah, but not once the race started! ;-)

  • Yes, but look at the Red and WHite Rover SD1 well ahead of all of them... it just blasts away and youdon't see it again!!... It killed ALL of them!!! about 5:30 into the film.. the mighty SD1 rides again!!

  • The RS500 still Kicked Butt!!!

  • Oh good god I think I just came in my pants listening to that! Full marks!

  • I would have loved to have been there to hear that v8.

  • Does his Rover sound the nuts @ 7.40 or is it just me? Brings back memories of my youth in the 80s with manual SD1 V8s and 3.0 S Capris, great days.Want another V8 SD1 now! Fantastic video 100%

  • Memories of a bygone era!

  • I would like to see a Rover Vitesse with a Wild Cat V 8 ,6000cc ,600HP participate to the 24 Hours of Nürburgring against the Dodge Vipers ,Porsche 997GT3GTR ,BMW M3GTR,AUDI R8...over the green hell : is there a driver in the world ready to do this !?

  • 1987 my first race on slicks-no testing , for the production saloon in the modified race. Standard engine etc only blueprinted. One of the best race meetings except the following year in a 6r4. Racing was Fun and fast, would like an SD1 again (twin plenium race car).

Have been trying to resurect the Superprix but we need a great deal more political will before it will happen. Would love to know how the video surfaced as only one copy was made.

  • I still want one.. Anyone got one in mint condition???

  • Yes! I have a mint, totally factory original 13k nut and bolt perfect V8 SD1. its in its carcoon for winter just now. for under £10k or swap for a pre 73 yank muscle car. i also have the red EFi from the hardback karen pender book and a half resto'ed V8S (my particular one is the only one in the world!haha) interested?!?

  • That motor was really barking, great stuff!

but seriously, how many gaps does that golf need to give you before you pass him?

stop worrying bout that shiny paint and get in there man!

  • Top class English old skool street racing! bring it back!!

  • I love how everyone that raced SD1s stripped them out but always left the walnut on the doors and dash.

  • proper motors!

  • its comming back to Birmingham!!!

  • absolutely awesome :-)

  • Brilliant.

Back in the days when the country wasn't overrun with whinging 'carbon footprint' maggots ruining everyone's enjoyment

  • thats what i call racing!!

  • That guy still commentates at Formula Saloon Events!!!

  • Really? Is there any way I could grab hold of him?

  • fantastic vid.

  • the golf was much quicker through the corners, just watch it. Every corner the golf was quicker out of them.

    HOLDING IT UP HAHA

  • Hmmm.

    1983 BTCC

Was it won by a Golf GTi?

    End of discussion

  • It was in 1984 I think.

  • LOL!!! Yeah but look at the SD1 up front!!.. it was well ahead and nowhere to be seen.. LOL! This thing was racing BMW's and was caning them!!!!

  • EFI or carbs? Standard bore? It`s quick what ever he`s got. Those were the days....

  • Brilliant footage!

The damn Golf is just in the way lol ;-)

I have had a few SD1's and for them not handling,my old Wide Arch SD1 would stick with Cossie's and Scooby's!

My latest project SD1 is going to have either a 5.2 or a blown 5.5! :-)

  • Loved the clip, brought back memories. I used to have a race tuned V8 SD1 in the early 90's - did 9mpg on a good day. Those were the days.

  • That car sounds just the same as that 68 FORD GT40 racing

    at that LE MAN thing

  • Drives like a pram Ha,you obviously have never driven a vitesse, check out the bastos cars in the 84/85 ETCC,Then tell us they dont handle SD1's have soul kid vw's all died at birth.

  • this was my dads golf, i was 18 months old watchin that! it was a 1298 cc, exactly a third of the rover's engine so i didnt think it did bad v8 lovers!!!

  • I LOVE this clip! Thanks for posting Lemanslegend! I used to have an ex-police twin plenum Vitesse. Ah... Happy days...!

  • that rover handles like a pram !!

nice sounding mk1 golf there.. ( not that you see him for long)

  • i saw the golf all the way didnt gain any ground as far as i could see dont get me wrong as i love vw beetles i just love v8 muscle more.

  • Yeh tru, but what about the red and white SD1 in front... kinda leave him for smoke! Asd not being funny, but the Golf is kinda holding hmm up on the corners.. Proper cars have a V8 and Rear wheel drive - You'll never see a front wheel drive 1.8 litre Aston Martin of course..

  • ah wow, check out the bumperless mkl golf!

  • Great rare video lemanslegend, many thanks :)
