  • Nice monty python reference at 3:30, lol.

  • Lolz at the end! Creepy!

  • planking... you're doing it right.

  • planking fish....lol

  • cost of two striped bass: 7 dollars.

cost of all those herbs: 9 dollars.

  • Just let the man cook! quit adding stupid stories to the show!

  • TURKEY LIFTERS = UNITASKERS!!!

    tsk tsk Alton :(

  • isnt AB too old to be playing with barbies?

  • A word for a tool that's bad at the job it's designed for, but good at other things.

    Hmm.. how about "Xenotasker"?

  • alton brown knew about planking before it went mainstream

  • Well AB, as long as those clowns don't have any knives ropes hatchets or chainsaws, I think you'll be ok.

  • if the girl clown would take the make up off, she can come "entertain" me any times ;)

  • what a dull fish meal....

  • @8past8 Keep thinking this way and you're well on the path to obesity and heart problems. You can't eat what you like all the time and variety is a better policy than having the same old crap day in and day out.

  • @PrometheanRunGood I concur. I just mean't that I'd have put something more appealing into the episode. I dunno... yeah.

  • @8past8 Can't say I'd argue much beyond what I said. I've eaten whole fish aplenty but never the way A.B. has prepared it.

  • shit! Now I can't sleep!

  • I hate clowns how anyone could think they are even remotely funny is beyond me. The girl clown was hot though, take the make up off first lol.

  • @chrono4203 I dunno, she kinda looks like Amanda Palmer (Dresden Dolls)...take the wig (and plant) of, and she can keep the makeup.

  • @Inuyasha82 I second that lol

  • the first clown to the left looks hot

  • "and wood, like ducks, witches, and small rocks, float" LOL

i see what you did there AB, i see what you did there....

  • at around 5:13 you can see a distinct blood vessel that I've been told to scrape out all of my life but I've always questioned why but I've never been adventurous enough to opt for trying to cook with it intact. I've found that blood makes for a decent sauce but in the planking method would it even affect the flavor? and/or is removing it completely necessary?

  • did anyone else catch like the fifth Monty python reference in this series? "like ducks witches and small rocks they float"

  • @snackcrackers85 I caught it...lol

  • Thanks for this! Just caught nice 12" trout, so now we have DINNER! I have planked salmon, but never thought trout. Will be trying this tonight.

  • I thought you were supposed heat the plank on the grill on both sides for two minutes first.

  • I had it full screen. MAN THOSE CLOWNS ARE SO CREEPY!

  • Man Doctor Cameraman Mike!

  • it very good.

  • man, the clowns at the end was just creepy,,,

  • That's right AB, Up here we love planking Whitefish. I do it every summer :)

  • one of those trout still had the blood line. fail.

  • yeah i saw that to

its not bad though to eat it

  • "Oh well.....at least...I have the fist."

  • yes kids love to play with fish heads. i would

  • @emouch1 I disagree, tinfoil gets the job done plus it keeps the skin. One better is using banana leaves.....SIMPLE

  • I like eating the skin, if it is crispy and nicely charred. It is just too much work to cook this way. My uncle is a fisherman, I know a thing or two about fresh fish and how to cook it. We even cooked sometimes on the boat, using a simple one-use grill. Nothing beats cooking a fish so fresh that it still breathes! I know it sounds nasty, but you cannot get tastier fish than that.

  • @emouch1 I agree with the fresh taste best, the fish I catch is always better than commercial or restaurant.

  • there is a reason for that. usually fish served in restaurants is 1-2 days old. This is not bad, as it get rid of rigor mortis, the stiffening of the muscles after death. Hence the fish after two days is more succulent. Even sushi is either frozen or left for two days to get rid of rigor mortis. But completely fresh fish has the sweetness and saltiness of the sea, which I don't change with anything. As I said, when we are on the boat, we cook the fish while they are still alive.

  • the wooden planks give it the smokines that charcoal doesn't...

  • Smelt candle! :D

  • My family grills whole fish all the time but we've never experienced sticking on the grill :\ I wonder why...

  • You probably have the grill hot enough and well oiled, two important things in grilling any meat. Also, most people want to turn over the meat (fish) too soon.

  • sorry, I still can't get over it, I hate seeing a hole fish on my plate, gross!

  • Hmmm...ever tried pan fried gravid (pregnant) smelt? It's availible in chinese stores/food court.

It's the same idea, but it's so damn good. The belly is fully of caviar...

  • roe

  • Monty Python quote... Well played

  • Comment removed

  • Unlikely, too.

  • Does Smelt even taste good? Never tried it. Guess ill have to.

  • I've never tried them either, but people who eat smelts absolutely LOVE smelts. And a hell of a lot of people out there love them.

  • I like them. I fry up smaller ones than what he had, maybe 3 - 4 inches long. Eat them whole, heads, innards and all. They taste sort of like fish flavored french fries. Good with cocktail sauce, hot wing sauce, tartar sauce, etc.

  • He missed the bloodline in the trout.

  • fish candles... creepy

  • as if they're swimming.

  • And gosh darn it, the kids LOVE to play with these things!!!

  • "I'm glad we had this talk."

As am I. I would look terrible with a tail.

  • it's very dark and the tail is hard to see

  • BEDEMIR: What also floats in water? VILLAGER #1: Bread! VILLAGER #2: Apples! VILLAGER #3: Very small rocks! VILLAGER #1: Cider! VILLAGER #2: Great gravy! VILLAGER #1: Cherries! VILLAGER #2: Mud!

VILLAGER #3: Churches -- churches! VILLAGER #2: Lead -- lead! KING ARTHUR: A duck. CROWD: Oooh.

  • Such a shame I've never seen Monty Python...

  • If I have a charcoal grill, and I put all the coal in the middle. on the lid, how many holes do I close/ open?

  • what was the the monty python

  • Small rocks floating.

  • and witches. Never forget witches ... or lead.

  • If she weighs the same as a duck, then she's made of wood. And therefore...A WITCH!

  • Yay Monty Python Rules!

  • He loves to make Monty Python references, and I love it!

  • A Monty Python reference- I love it!
