hello, i'm a mechanical student in Malaysia.. i'm interested in using your video for my presentation.. i'm sorry for not waiting for your reply earlier.. it's urgent,, but i promised to put a credit for you.. a big THANKS YOU!
God, what an elaborate apparatus, with a large number of parameters to be in constant control of. What are supposed to be the benefits of this process versus tungsten carbide cutting, CNC grinding, and waterjet?
@FJoeForty Accuracy. The thing doesn't touch the work piece, so there is no bending moment on the 'tool' (the wire) or the work piece. The 'tool' is also constantly renewed, since it's running off a new spool, so it's dimensionally constant. It's also good for tough to mill / turn metals.
It's not really that elaborate. In a lot of ways, it's more basic than the methods you mentioned. This is essentially a big capacitor bank and a spark, no super high load bearings or huge iron castings.
@FJoeForty the advantage of edm is that elaborate forms can be machined eg. how could you machine a chase in hardened steel that was 1mm wide. 100mm long and 100mm deep. each corner square. best used in the plastic injection mould tool industry. carbide cutting leaves rads. jet has to go right through...with edm you can machine "blind" contours. hope that helps.
I really like the fact that the wire fed systems are low maintenance and can run over night without needing an operator..Productive without a payroll needed;)
If anyone is interested, our company can supply copper and brass electrode tubes for EDM drilling machines. Direct from the manufacturer.

@FJoeForty this method provides a much smoother surface finish then cnc grinding or a waterjet.

@dameistro . not always. grinding and lapping give a much better finish.
