I would argue that many of today's players are not intelligent when it comes to playing off the ball and playing good team basketball. We saw what MJ was able to do at age 40 just 8 years ago. While he wasn't at his most efficient, he still was effective. I doubt things have changed that much in 8 years..

There were centers and PF's in the 80's and 90's that had SF skills, too. You're missing the point of what made MJ such a magnitude. He led the league in scoring in scoring WHILE winning championships. No player has ever been able to do that. And he did it 6 times. In USA team he was second best defender after Tayshaun Prince. In Lakers he was primary defender. He wa always taking care of opponents leaders and he was doing a great job. And 2008 finals were very controversial. And Pierce didn't dominated Kobe. Boston's zone defense did.

lebron actually did lead the team in blocks and steals and was 3rd in rebounds behind bosh and howard. and if allen was the person slowing him to that shooting percentage that's even worse not better. allen is no great defender. again, watch the games. on the olympic squad kobe showed no discipline defensively and didn't know how to fit into the offense against the zone as you well know he can't play against the zone(boston). pierce did ask to guard kobe and kobe couldn't get loose.

Kobe doesn't need to get numbers to lead his team. He has 3 big men for rebounds, and he usually dictates the play instead of passing directly to the shooter. And when his team is bricking, he USUALLY picks it up offensively. Countless times this season, Kobe sat out the 4th quarter.
